In the modern sense I'd go with most of the Abrahamic ones which ultimately loops back to my previous statement. You could go to radical Buddhists in southern Asia, but I'm about 100% certain that their behavior is a reaction to the encroachment of a certain religion of peace on their ancestral territories. We could also touch on war as an industry in an attempt to blame another ideology, but if you look at things like shareholders, CEOs, and most bureaucrats involved, my initial statement is still completely valid. I always saw it as an extension of Snake fighting his own personal demons. There's that one line he says to Big Boss during the final boss fight: "I've only got one fight left. To free myself from your grip, to rid myself of these nightmares. Big Boss, I will defeat you." Whether that was done for the redub on Subsistence, or a translation from the original Japanese text, that statement always got to me.

Something I've noticed is that the Japanese and Americans depict war from two different perspectives, most Japanese war media depicts the true horrors of war, while American media mostly aims to glorify it, rarely ever showing the true horrors.
@charlestonobryant8074 жыл бұрын
PerfectTube12 I’d say that has changed too, especially when Saving Private Ryan dropped. That movie completely removed the glamour and glorification, and it’s impact has changed how big Western war movies are made. 1917, Hacksaw a Ridge, hell especially Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now were showing the horrors of war.
@spongebobfan1904 жыл бұрын
@@charlestonobryant807 I think it could also have something to do with the geographical locations, as America hasn't had any wars with other nations on American soil in recent history, and Japan usually makes media where we see how war affects children and other civilians, right in the midst of battle. (I refuse to watch Grave of the Fireflies a second time) You could also say that American Sniper being a biographical film really did strip the glorification of war, as it depicted an idea of how the war in Iraq affected Chris Kyle's psyche and how that in turn affected his home life with his family. But when you take a look at games like Call of Duty (for the most part at least) or CS:GO, it's glorification.

If Metal Gear 2 ever gets a remake I hope they keep the same tone and atmosphere... It has this dystopian 80's science fiction feeling, but is set in Africa, which I think is an interesting mix.

MG2 doesn’t take place in Africa, but in Central Asia (Zanzibar Land being a "country bordering China, USSR and Middle East" according to the intro). What is funny is that, Zanzibar Land = the place where operation Snake Eater in MGS3 takes place, so it will be a good rediscovery of the MGS3 environment 35 years after the third game took place.

It is the late 1990s... The world is embarking on an age of peace and stability. Relations between the Cold War superpowers have thawed. Regional conflicts are resolved. The threat of nuclear war is now a thing of the past. But there are some who do not desire peace... An atmosphere of tension begins to build in the Middle East. A military junta comes to power in Zanzibar Land, a small nation bordering on Russia, China, and the Middle East. Zanzibar Land attacks nuclear weapons disposal sites around the world, seizing those weapons that are still intact, and becomes the world's only nuclear power. It then begins to invade its neighbors at will. After renouncing nukes forever, the world is once again threatened by the specter of nuclear war. Meanwhile, the world's oil supply, which was to last another 30 years, suddenly and unexpectedly dries up. Without a safe alternative source of energy, the world faces a severe energy crisis. It is in these dire circumstances that Dr. Kio Marv, a Czech biologist, develops "OILIX", a microbe that can synthesize high-grade petroleum. With this discovery, global tensions are once again on the rise. On his way to attend an American scientific conference, Dr. Marv is kidnapped by agents of Zanzibar Land. With its nuclear weapons and the secret of OILIX, Zanzibar Land plans to achieve global military domination. A tiny microbe, only a few microns wide, is about to change the world forever.

Heck if we're taking THAT route, it seems that NINTENDO deserves to have this released on their console more than the others, after all,as they actually have had more involvement with the development of a Metal Gear game than the other two,canon or not.Plus there's the fact that both Playstation and Xbox have already had AT LEAST one collection with this game.
