This goes beyond the scope of anything I'll be capable of doing, but it was fascinating and insightful. I'm certain this chip is responsible for my console's death because shortly before it died, I couldn't get it to connect to my TV via HDMI. One of these days, I'll have to find a local specialist to replace my chip.

I replaced the psu and it still doesn’t work… all my money gone.

I've replaced 4 retimer chips on the Xbox X's with success. I just did another one and it would power up then shut off immediately. Then it ended up not powering up at all anymore. Good to know this is caused by this chip. Guess I better go back and check my work on that chip.

Thanks mate! I had my suspicions from from an Xbox that came back in for warranty with the same issue and symptoms. No shorts. Changed the retimer chip and boom, back to life. Glad you were able to confirm this. Why do you think they keep dying? Bad batch or bad design? These are the same ones in the Xbox one S. At least you can buy them directly from Texas Instruments in the USA, at least.

Does he happen have have a video on an Xbox one x turning on then turning off after a few seconds. I always get the beeps on start up but it just never stays on long enough to start up completely. It’s not overheated and I’ve power cycled it and moved to different outlets. I don’t want to buy a power supply because I feel like that might not be the issue.

Picked up an old Xbox One X from a yard sale for $20.. Seller said it didn't work. Plugged it in and it powered right up.. But the disc drive was dead.. Bought a replacement and swapped out the daughter board and went to power it on and nothing.. ;( Hoping it's just the retimer chip after watching your video. Thanks for the video!

From what I've found it affects the 3.3v rail. I had 2 new chips drag it down to 2.5v.

I have the same issue. The power button lights up for a few moments and shuts off...the fan also does a very brief spin. The power supply/HDD are good ... I eventually reached out to the reddit community for help. My only response was from someone in your country, extremely helpful and nice. He told me that it could be the retimer chip. Says it's a 50/50 chance. I ordered it already and now I just wait and see.

Great vid! Very familiar with repairing the retimer on this model Xbox. however, does the console actually need a retimer to power on? If you have one that doesnt power on and you think maybe its the retimer can you just pull the retimer and then test for power on? Or will it not power on without one in place?

Got a one X here beeps on beeps off, all voltages are where they should be. Chucked a retimer on just for the sake of it no luck. I’m thinking a ceramic cap or resistor has died somewhere. Fancy a project Phill ? I’ve not got the time at work to carry on diving deeper :(

Thanks for the really detailed and explaining videos! An other one from you helped me to repair two One S consols! Currently I am working on an Xbox One X, which had liquid damage. It does power on, lights up, but than shuts off in 2 sec. HDD dos not spin, just 5V are there in teh connector. That worries me that capacitors arround and under the GPU are short to ground, almost all of them eg. C1330/1331; than C253-257 and so on. As well as on the back side of the panel around L2 and L16. Is that board completely dead? Where to look for shorts, etc. any suggestion? (I know from the One S is that two Mosfets on power line caused a number of short to ground, but here I have no experience yet). Thanks!

Have you tried turning on the console once removed from the board, or is it required to turn on ?. Wasn’t sure if removing it would resolve the short and allow it to turn on (without hdmi output)

Not too many electronic techs around anymore. Haven't seen this level of expertise in over 30 years. So I have encountered the infamous xbox turns on and 5 seconds later turns off or does not turn on at all. My question is does the power supply (xbox one X internal psu) make any noise when plugged in? I would expect the detection of a tiny bit of humming but mine is making a sound that can only be described as a quiet intermittent crackling almost sounding like a random morse code crackling or tapping, but the output voltage remains at 12 volts. Any thoughts? Help please?

I know you cannot buy them (have tried many google searches) so will have to get a donor board... but what does the IC actually do?

Which iron and temperature are you using to go over the pins as I use a quick with flux but solder just joins between connections? Also are you using the flux and solder in your description?

Hi My Xbox One X is powering on and then going off. I have taken the supply out and run it without a load and to me it is sounding like it is 'ticking'. I have measured the output and it is 12V approx. but I dont know if that holds out under load. Does this seem like a motherboard problem? I only ask as I could not pick out any noise from either of the supplies you tried (at least not like what I am hearing!).

When I press my Xbox One X power button on it makes the noise then lights up as if its booting up for about 7 seconds & then makes the noise as if I pushed the button again to turn off & just shuts off, the input on tv never notices it turned on. Hey so im working on a one X that does absolutely nothing when i push the power button, i opened the power supply and one of the power regulator transistors had its middle leg vaporized, i used a new power supply and still nothing, it appears that all the PMICs are shorted to ground, would it be sensible to try replacing the retimer ?

I have 3 xbox one x that are stuck at 86% during "applying update" for new osu1. They do not give error code, they stay on update screen indefinitely. I can swap hdd and upload newest osu and still happens. Is there a fix for this???

I have an Xbox one x that originally wasn’t feeding a signal to my TV when powered on, but when I disconnected it for a day then tried to restart it won’t power on at all. In your experience Does the retimer chip seem like the culprit for this situation?

After replacing the retimer ic I had power but it would immediately shut off and after awhile no power at all. Have one capacitor shorted at the retimer chip and one at the U21. Powered on fine before and stayed on until I replaced that chip. Could a incorrectly installed retimer ic chip cause this short on the U21 chip? Should I try and just replace the retimer chip again? My initial problem was no signal but it powered on fine and stayed on up until I replaced the retimer chip. Thanks in advance.

how are you at fixing GPUS? lad i know wired 2 gpus up for mining, but messed up the wiring, powered the PCI extensions from one psu and the main 8 pin connections from another, when hes turned the system of thats when its fried the gpus
