@@ryanheart1034 The 19th amendment (which gave women the vote) was passed in 1919. The Republican party started becoming more conservative in the 1930s. Meaning that essentially the Republican party were the progressive party of the time.

@@sarahneal2102 Thank you Sarah. I so hate how conservatives today prop up great Republicans as old as proof that they are great, when it's like today's Republicans aren't fit to wipe the old Republican's butts. From what I remember, my parents were both conservative (not "hardcore" always vote Republican no matter what, but they tended to vote conservative more often than not) until they voted to put Ronald Reagan in office. Then, when they saw what Reagan did with his time in office, they knew that the Republican conservative values that they had (mostly) supported all their lives no longer represented them. They both switched to the Democrats after that and both of them voted straight blue until they passed away (1999 for my father, 2013 for my mother.) Thing is, they were still conservative in many ways, but they didn't support the Republican GOP that was created in Reagan's era and that has always been something I see in so many people... The Republicans are like "We are the conservatives!" and so many conservatives just vote straight red despite the Republicans not actually being conservative anymore, they are just controlling government to favor big business.

A true masterclass in interviewing. He never puts words in her mouth, but he knows enough about her online persona to be able to hold her accountable for her previous statements. He so clearly flips her own statements back to her, and allows her to flounder on her own to try to justify them. Finally, he keeps pressing on questions until he gets an answer, and if she refuses to answer, he calls her out. All while being funny, calm, and composed at the same time! This is part natural skill and part years of practice, but it payed off.

Agreed, and as an extra bonus, I love how he manages to get her to break character and be the most "herself" she's ever been in front of a camera by stopping her dead in her tracks everytime she tries to fire up her persona again and instantly asking a follow-up and catching her off guard. 😂 Sorry Tomi, only boomers still use Facebook and KZfaq won't allow misleading and straight up factually false statements, looks like you're on your way out. 😅

If you google 'women's rights movement'... more pictures of women protesting in the streets, some look pretty aggressive. I believe what Tomi was trying to say was that she wants Kaepernick to explain furthermore what he’s trying to “protest” so then you can make a more direct approach to the idea. With me being a military family, I understand as well what the American flag means, like she said it’s not just a piece of cloth with different colors on it. It means freedom, liberty, justice, and history… Embracing that history. Many people have died for that flag whether it was to help a movement start (like helping people see that all colors are equal) or to help give rights, like the Civil War or the Revolutionary war and so many other things that we fought for (black or white). There have been so many lives in all shapes and sizes that have died for the flag which is why it gets on some peoples nerves when they disrespect it whether it’s burning it, trashing it or, even kneeling during the national anthem. It’s more than a song it’s respect to those who have fought and paid the ultimate price for us. But to answer Trevor‘s question I think there are different ways Kaepernick could’ve vented his thoughts. I do agree with Trevor when he says that if a black man (or anyone) do anything that they could be labeled as a thug or anything else. But the big difference is that Kaepernick has influence, we’ve already seen that with Nike on multiple occasions. If Kaepernick were to send out a tweet then that would be something in of itself you’ve already started something, or you could start of movement with how much power and influence he has he could easily do that and have many followers. The nice thing that Kaepernick has done though is making sure that he was protesting in a calm, civil, not hurting anybody in a physical manner. Although, with that being said he has a lot of options to make his point known without dissing the people who have fought/died/ endured the hardships of being in the military and or military family.

As Trevor metaphorically chose the stage on which Tomi and Trevor would face-off, the battleground of this discussion was the embodiment of a hall of mirrors. Each point Tomi raised, Trevor, countered it while simultaneously using her own logic to verbally annihilate her and force her to reflect on her own flawed logic. This is truly masterful work. I like in the end how Trevor asked her a simple and personal question because you could see that he intended to demonstrate how easily her answers flowed out of her mouth when she was not working hard to remember and formulate counterpoints that were imbued with right-wing ideologies that are not a natural state within her personal beliefs.

@@TheAshube9 There's nothing objective about generational labels. In any case, she didn't just say "I'm a millennial," she said "I'm a millennial, _so I don't like labels_ ." in a situation like above, 'annihilated' is an opinion. its not like a battle where if you lost 80% of your forces, then that is annihilated in the objective sense of the word. it all depends on who you ask in this case. besides many people believed trump got 'annihilated' in the presidential debates but look who got 'annihilated' on the big night.
@HailG3
@HailG3 7 жыл бұрын
Well, saying "annihilated" is indeed a hyperbole, which is exactly why I did it, but saying that Trevor "won" the debate (if you want to call it that) is not an opinion, because he managed to turn her so called logic against her and responded to each one of her arguments, while she kep evading the last question and ended up not answering. Of course different people are going to like one or the other more, and they'll have different views on how the conversation went, but if you only take into consideration the level of the arguments, the reasoning and the resilience of both Trevor and Tomi (with no bias) it's pretty clear that he beat her.
@jerok47
@jerok47 7 жыл бұрын
The problem is that those "valid points" were not even relevant to the questions at hand, she just could not get into the frame of mind to even recognize what was being asked. The most obvious example of this was the "How?" question, she had no answer, but she talked for minutes. The reason people say Trevor "won" is because he kept bringing to light the flaws in her arguments, hypocrisy, contradictions and mindset. And she couldn't argue any of his, her best shot was the dumb "I can't see color so you have trouble crossing the street" joke, and she couldn't even get her foot in then. The comical contradictions didn't help her case either. And she topped it off with a distastefull attempt at a joke in the end.

@@pjincho When you live a life of relative privilege, it's easy to assume that *most* others have it roughly the same as you do. As a younger person, I would have identified with that mindset a lot more. I thought racism was mostly a thing of the past and that people nowadays blamed it because it got them out of taking personal responsibility for their own actions and shortcomings. I didn't understand what life was like for people who aren't me. Most people in the media were similar to me. Most of my friends either were similar or tried to appear so. The history I learned in school, while I wouldn't go so far as to say it was untrue, was very sanitized. It wasn't until college that I began to see things differently. Not because I was brainwashed, but because I came into contact with people who had different experiences, and with information I had not possessed before. It's no wonder people who don't have this experience think of college as the enemy; education can change someone's perspective. If you don't receive the education, you retain the same perspective and don't understand why the other person has changed theirs. It doesn't make sense in your more limited experience. I don't think Tomi or people like her mean bad, for the most part. They just see the world in a certain way that they always have, and they feel threatened by people who are telling them they are wrong. It's like, do you take the red pill or the blue? Except that at least Neo knew that if he chose Blue, he was intentionally choosing to deny the truth. The choice isn't usually so clear.
@DanielChannel89

I might add that there are many things that make it easy for a person to discount the testimony of others with a clear conscience. There *are* (some) people in the world who play at being victims to avoid personal responsibility. There *are* (some) people out there who educate with propaganda moreso than with actual facts. And if a person is older, they *do* have more life experience than someone who may be fresh out of college trying to tell them new things (though the type of experience is likely in some ways different). So it should not actually be surprising that people are so easily able to cling to their own narratives. Instead of calling them idiots, we should realize the context of their point of view and try to figure out how to overcome those barriers.

when she says "I am a woman..." at 12:21 and implies that black people have more rights than "she did" it completely ignores the fact that women had to protest for her to say that. Minority conservatives do this constantly and it's ironic as it is sad. Privileged minds will forget that the privilege they hold only exists due to the fact that people they disagree with (and constantly disrespect) fought for it. Feminists fought for her right to spew out patriarchal non-sense. This is one of many reason the boot-strap mentality is such an incomplete idea. It is not rooted in reality but in cognitive bias and narcissism. We're all guilty of this, but laaawd she's got it down.

" Here's the excerpt: "(The 36 unarmed black male victims of police shootings in 2015 measured against the total black male population [nearly 19 million in mid-2014, per the Census Bureau] amounts to a per capita rate of 0.0000018 unarmed fatalities by police. By comparison, 52 law enforcement officers were feloniously killed in 2015 while engaged in such duties as traffic stops and warrant service, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. The FBI counted nearly 628,000 full-time law enforcement officers in the United States in 2014. Assuming that the number of officers did not markedly increase in 2015, the per capita rate of officers being feloniously killed is 0.000082, or 45 times the rate at which unarmed black males are killed by cops. The Memorial Fund does not have data on the race of cop-killers in 2015, but applying the historical average over the last decade in which 40 percent of all cop-killers were black would yield 21 cops killed by blacks in 2015. An officer’s chance of getting killed by a black person is 0.000033, which is 18.5 times the chance of an unarmed black person getting killed by a cop. " Now if you do the same thing using the demographic statistics - from the SAME SOURCES - of white males (32 unarmed white males killed in 2015, around 123 million white males in US 2015, 55% of law enforcement killed by white males or about 28 officers).
@eps3154
@eps3154 7 жыл бұрын
Grumpy Dai That's how you get the statement "white men are 169 times more likely to kill a cop than officers killed white men." Yeah, I was being conservative with my 'conclusion' and rounded DOWN with the "over 100 times more likely to kill a cop than to be killed by a cop" stat. Now I can tell you WHY the statistics are flawed, stupid, and misleading. But can YOU? (Here's a hint. It's for the same reasons why the 18.5 stat is moronic.)

Protesting by putting his millionaire money to organizations protesting specific abuses of the bad apples within. Noah also stated the anti-whites in BLM were not representative of the movement. Same should apply to Kaepernick on the USA. Protesting against the USA, its traditions as a whole and the rights and entitlements we all enjoy is amazing compared to most other countries, the bad apples are the racists in its organizations. But it is ridiculous to protest the USA and its symbolic traditions, in an attempt to remove the bad apples in the police, or local governments. I agree with Trevor n almost everything but I strongly agree with is, and his followers on this issue. The USA is AMAZING, even with all its flaws, and evil conservative manipulative moves, stealing the Supreme court etc, etc. But don't protest the USA, work to fight the specific problems at a much lower level.

***** - DL points were stupid...and maybe you are the one blind to the facts. We're told to protest peaceful and you whiteys cry about blks protesting for profits because they don't want to work a real job. We protest quiet doing the anthem and you whiteys cry that we're disrespecting those who died fighting for our country. We riot and you whiteys cry that violence is not the way to protest. It appears to me that no matter how blacks voice their opinion or outrage whiteys will find some way to whine about it by complaining about how the protest was handled instead of just coming out and saying we don't value what blacks say so stop bitching. Hell, one of your own Trump supporters made it clear when he said, "Black lives DON'T matter and neither does your vote". That one asshole really speak for all you jackasses who believe that but use the "anthem" and "patriotism" to disguise racial hate.
