The picture is pretty much the same, except that on the Voyager gold record, only the man had his hand raised in greeting. The picture was criticized for that reason. In this picture, both the man and the woman have their hands raised. Unfortunately, the woman on the Voyager record had a nose, and in the current picture, she has lost it.

@@kateuhler7803 why would they have bad intentions? Unless if they were a hunter species like in Alien vs Predator, they would have little to no reason to bother us in a negative way. Literally every single element or resource that we have, you can find so much more of everywhere else in the universe. Why go to war for a gas station mart, when you can go to Walmart or target for free? We go to war for resources, and it would make little sense to fight over so little. However, if they have the ability to traverse the stars, they are beyond technologically advanced over us. So if they wanted us dead, we'd be dead; no precaution or preparation would save us.

I feel like everyone, in every space program should watch Species at least once, so they understand what could happen by beaming our genetic code to unknown places where hopefully, according to them, a technologically advanced species would make contact with us. When it comes to the whole "looking back in time" thing, I heard a professor explain it in a way that made sense to me. We aren't literally looking at the past, but we are looking at light from the past that took a really long time to get here (photons). The best comparison we have is say you took a picture of your child when they were born, some time passes and your kid is 18 years old today, but you still have this picture from when they were a baby. It's like that. Looking at a 13 billion year old picture today. You are looking at the past, but not literally, just metaphorically. You're seeing a picture of what that galaxy was like millions of years ago.
