because of China i have a company and create jobs for my African brothers. By then the Whites only have NGO and gives out food aid. We don't need food aid. We need jobs. People back home now have jobs and although not as highly paid, at least we have better than the previous scraps. Now we have hospitals, roads, power that doesn't just go off, clean treated water not well water, better healthcare, the use of technology in school, China gave me project so I can build infra like schools. That is so much I have contributed. What did you do Trevor for Africa?

I just want to say, most Chinese workers do not wish to leave motherland to go to Africa for 560dollars a month , that’s a normal wage in China. But to start a project you need some specialist to lead, these Chinese workers finally end their work abroad once work is streamlined in Africa.

If you are interested in searching how China has reduced a large number of poor people, you will find that those measures are similar to what the Chinese have done in Africa. Set up factories, build infrastructure and teach local people labor skills. Instead of simply giving them unemployment benefits and food packages. Humanitarianism can only reduce deaths, but construction and cooperation can reduce poverty.

Well, Trevor, when the first U.S. companies are setting up its branch in China in the early 80s and 90s, the salary gap between the U.S. expatriate and the local employees was very often even bigger than 10x, do you also call that unfair? The key difference in the level of compensation between expatriate and the locals is attributed to the different living cost in home and foreign countries - as in expatriates are short-termed oversees workers usually with a family in the home country to feed. This is a basic principal and common practice in the domain of any corporate human resources - please don't make a sensational exaggeration of it and make it look like an exploitation of the local workers - this is very misleading and unfair.

This is part of the commentary from R. Ramakumar at Channel News Asia on 16th April 2022 "Defaults over China’s infrastructure-related loans to Sri Lanka, especially the financing of the Hambantota port, are being cited as factors contributing to the crisis. But these facts don’t add up. The construction of the Hambantota port was financed by the Chinese Exim Bank. The port was running losses, so Sri Lanka leased out the port for 99 years to the Chinese Merchant’s Group, which paid Sri Lanka US$1.12 billion. So the Hambantota port fiasco did not lead to a balance of payments crisis (where more money or exports are going out than coming in), it actually bolstered Sri Lanka’s foreign exchange reserves by US$1.12 billion."

If the IMF gives you a loan, they basically tell you what you can or can't do as a government with your money. That's insane, and it's absolutely normalized.

@@rishsab1316 What is black identity? So many uneducated comments on youtube. Black peeps/Africa have been enslaved, colonised and used by everyone else for centuries now. First enslaved by Arabs then Europeans and now people calling it the Chinese continent. The Arabs brought Islam to Sub saharan Africa, then took slaves and resources, the Europeans brought Christianity then took slaves and resources. And now great China is bringing infrastructure and taking resources and putting the continent in further debt. Build infrastructure for people who don't have the technical know how to do so or maintain it isn't very helpful... What happens when those infrastructures start to depreciate? Listen or read carefully to what I'm trying to say, sub-saharan Africans may all be black, but they speak different languages, have different ideologies, religions and culture. If you know and understand all of this then to put all of them in the bracket of 'black identity' is ludicrous, impractical and downright silly. Why not say Putin is failing his white identity for attacking Ukraine? Silly right? 😂 Trevor is biased because he is catering to the American media, just like someone catering to the Chinese or Russian or Saudi Arabian media would be biased too. That is logic, everyone picks a side, Politics is savage and brutal let's not talk about right or wrong here, just ends and means. And Trevor he has no reason to side with China on this African issue, again that's logic... Anyone who talks of 'black identity' when it comes to Africa forgets that it's a continent and not a country.... And for your information, 2 black people don't have to agree on the same issue. I want to point out that China hasn't always been this great power that nowadays 'the west' wants to portray. If you know a bit about Chinese history, you will know that it was invaded and colonized in the last century. China had to accept a lot of unfair trades with the developed countries then. As a Chinese person living in Europe, I have concerns for my country and my government. But I also notice how many people take for granted the fact that they grow up in an already developed country and are used to being on the moral high horse criticizing others while not being able to provide a better solution (including to the issues happening inside China) I'm not saying it's the west's responsibility to do everything because they're privileged (In fact, every country has its own domestic problems which in my opinion, is what a responsible government should focus on). I think we should try to understand other perspectives and think about how to do better on an individual level, study the subjects that confuse us rather than choose narratives from online news, and be nice to others regardless of where they come from and what race they are. I'm still working on it. It can be difficult because of how unsettling the world is becoming. But I still have hope that one day we can work together to solve problems rather than make others the 'villain' of the story.

Trevor is smart, but this may be an over simplification. I think he also needs to highlight the alternatives which he has probably experienced. When countries in Africa use Chinese money to build up the infrastructure (roads, ports, electricity, water, transportation etc.), it helps these countries to eventually develop and stand on their two feet. African countries have already tried to work with western institutions like the IMF and World Bank, which push countries further into poverty. The IMF and World Bank loans comes with terms that do not allow countries to build infrastructure, so countries spend on things that do not allow them be independent and end up servicing the loans for decades. Building McDonalds, StarBucks, Apple stores, and Coca Cola factories doesn’t build a country, despite what we are told, but creating infrastructure does develop a country.

The difference between the west and china is that China wants to develop Africa and the west does not want to develop Africa or even for Africa to develop. The west gets much more from an undeveloped Africa than they would from a developed one. A developed Africa would mean Africans owning their resources and no longer being exploitable by the west. China, on the other hand, gains nothing from an undeveloped Africa as poor Africans cannot trade Chinese goods or make use of Chinese mega projects. So China wants Africa to shape up and not be dominated by wars. Well, the west thrive in wars in Africa and continue to fuel wars and start new ones to keep Africa below development. Africans need to make their choice as to which devil is better for them.

USA influsences Europe, likewise, Chinese want to be a superstar by influencing 54 independent African countries not only economically but also politically. Nothing is new here. The new thing is when Chinese invest in africa we call it exploitation, for Eurpoean we call it an investment. Let me ask you, not alone in Euorpean investment, in United states does the better positions go to the natives, blacks, brown people? big no, What is wrong if they bring their best workers to manage their factory. Btw, the term 'exploitation' is all economical,... European want to collect taxes through every business exchange through their currencies and Chinese encourage Africans to not use it at least when they make business with China. Instead of selling oil in euro/dollar and buying stuff from China through that money, Chinese want to exchange the goods directly. I believe, as an African we got enough lesson that Eurpoeans will never invest on our infrastructure, they will never engage on technology transfer, they always use human right for their political advantage.

Theft of resources and predatory lending targeting any country is terrible and should be punished harshly. All the countries, banks, global institutes and other lenders that have exploited, robbed and manipulated African countries, (and any other country in the world) over the decades should be made to return resources and assets, pay each country back, including loss of earnings, and be barred from lending. Aren't those complaints the same everywhere? Those loans given out are not credit cards, they need collaterals. If the loan defaults, collaterals are seized as is the norm. How is this nefarious especially when the interest rates aren't out of the ordinary considering the risks that the Chinese must take. As for workers, some jobs require more training to execute or to operate the machineries. Until African workers are fully trained to do the job, it is natural to have Chinese there first. There are more Africans in higher positions or taking up the lower level jobs than before, so I don't understand the complaint. Pay difference is always there. I've worked in American companies for more than 2 decades and my pay is no where near Americans doing the same job and that's understandable. The cost of living is just different even if the work is in the same country. Natural resources are needed as mentioned. But before they can be put to use, they need to be extracted and that cost money to do so. What is different is the Chinese is starting to do the refining at source, which allows the host countries to earn more from selling the natural resources. Of course for those who always complain, they see this as poluuting the host countries. Can't win there.

Trevor, a South African, did not complain his country does not do anything to help his fellow Africans to build infrastructure and industries. In fact, South Africa is going downhill itself. He is living in America and serves American interests, not Africans at all.

Ok starting off, this sounds a lot like what Western nations did to the East. Sending in supervisors from the other country is no different, nor paying them more. Japan did it in the US, the US did it everywhere else.... now it is bad? Yea it is, and at the same time no one is still stepping in to help the countries of Africa. The mineral wealth alone should make the countries of Africa the leading powers.

We keep bringing in the mineral wealth topic. If African nations have the resources to mine it and process it on their own, then sell it or trade said minerals, that is what I would support as well in the form of self-reliance. The reality is that African nations need the resources to achieve this goal and lack both the financial and technological means. No one else is truly supporting Africa on a large enough scale where the African people will enjoy the benefits. We need to observe this Africa-China arrangement to ensure the outcomes will be mutually beneficial and not one sided.

With the large population growth in Africa (project 2 billion), infrastructure development must begin now, not later or there will be the same issues that undermine other even more developed countries.
