I’ve been playing this game with my wife and kids and we like it. I am slowly painting the minis and they look awesome. I have a lot of these games so I actually appreciate that it doesn’t look like a D&D manual. I do the set up and while it does take a while, the game length is long enough and the table presence is good enough that I think it’s worth it. I agree the rule book is a bit tedious being split in 2, the tutorial book is only used the first time so I don’t hold that against them. I like the combat, it’s a dice pool combat system where your skill number is how many dice you need and you are counting successes. I like the variety of abilities. Because we are playing with 5 we are using Alastair from Assassins Creed. We are also using these modifier cards called “nightmare” cards that make the monsters different each time in various ways and also give them more loot when you kill them. I think this helps with a sense of variety. I feel like there is actually a lot of variety in monsters, there are three factions with two types of minion in each and then 2 types of lieutenants and probably 15 special characters. I didn’t feel like we only fought the guards other than 2 of the factions are human. I guess different expectations explain the different takes but we liked it and I intend to finish it.

Something else that helped our group.....we split up the work. I was the book guy. We had a clock guy. We had a map guy.

Glad I passed on this, got enough great games in this space that I don't need a so-so one.

It’s funny that the Dice Tower did their top 10 Dungeon Crawlers and I disagreed with about 80% of their choices. I have this, just busy painting up the minis before digging in.

Well shucks, another cooperative dungeon crawl. Can there FINALLY be a spiritual successor to Descent 2nd Edition? Sorry to gripe but the board game hobby is drowning in these things nowadays.

We played this on a lazy Susan which helped quite a bit with the vision issues

I agree with the DT. I played the original NA and it had some cool moments but setup/teardown was a pain, and the game was too convoluted for the payoff.

I had ordered the original version of Nova Aetas after its sci-fi sister game Sine Tempore was the first big minis board game campaign that I ever backed on Kickstarter. I got them both in, tried to learn them, they sat and sat unplayed as the rules were way too convoluted for me, and I eventually lost all interest. Ended up throwing out/recycling everything from both games except for the minis which I plan to repurpose as Pathfinder/Starfinder RPG minis. Never played either of them a single time. Doesn't look like this new implementation of the system is enough to bring me back with the story/adventure campaign elements that were added. I did at least get their Black Rose War game played (once) and it is still in my collection, for now.
