I am shocked. Shocked and appalled. You watch someone and you think you know their taste, but noooo. Here I thought for sure Sam's top 10 would be: 10. Connect Four 9. Trouble 8. Hungry Hungry Hippos 7. Battleship 6. Sorry 5. Chutes & Ladders 4. Candyland 3. Life (Especially the My Little Pony variant) 2. Casino Yahtzee 1. Monopoly /duck

Hey, Sam, this was grerat. Colosseum suprised me being that high and beating Battlestar Galactica but otherwise it was really what I expected. It was fun.

Yes Sam. Wizards, A sword drawn from a stone, Ladies living in lakes and Dragons are fantasy. And Shadows are based on the Arthurian legend and all these things are in there.

As soon as I saw that Tom had a guess for Sam's top 10, I made a guess of my own: TI3 Summoner Wars Star Wars X-wing Shadows over Camelot Descent 2 Jamaica King of Tokyo/New York Memoir 44 Level 7: Omega Protocol War of the Ring 6 out of 10 and better than Mr. Vassel :D Have I watched too many top 10's?

Well, don't feel bad, Tom. I only guessed 4 of Sam's top 10. But then again, I'm not one of his BEST FRIENDS. I thought maybe Sam would have Marvel Heroes on his list. With Descent so high on the list, I'm a little surprised Myth didn't make the top 100 (at least based on Sam's review of Myth at the beginning of the year).

Ok first off: I'm punching out my game markers for TI3 as I'm listening to this Top 10. Let's see if your promises are up to snuff about this game Sam ;) We had our differences with Stoneage, but about actual strategy we seem to be on the same page. And then: THANKS for putting Omega Protocol on here. In your Miami Dice episode on it you three really seemed to love this game but I was critically missing it from Toms Top 100. I thought that maybe, behind the scenes, you grew to dislike it for some reason. Also: No Netrunner on both lists :(

It's great. And critically underrepresented on BGG due to bellyaching about time. It's the nature of the game, sadly, but it's part of what makes it so good. There's a slight emphasis on Euros on BGG. I'm okay with it and there's a lot of good to it, but it's undeniably there. That explains Eclipse, which. . . . That game's outright bad. It's horrible. It's atrocious. Everything is off. Anyway, I digress. It's great. The sprues are a labor to deal with, though, so sorry about that. Remember that it is first and foremost a politics game, so don't expect as many military encounters as you might guess.

We also play with there always being one traitor as well, otherwise the game is a cakewalk. We play with 2 traitors as being possible (we just took a Loyal card and stuck a tiny little piece of masking tape with a T on it as a Traitor card - we don't have Company of Merlin) by playing with 1 loyalty card more than the number of players and 2 traitor cards so there's always 1 but sometimes 2. Makes 3 player games HILARIOUS when there are 2 traitors.

Nice games! Imo i really like Runewars! ( 1st edition = 3D Mountains) And there is a error on the video it says #11 it is twilight imperium... Nice list i like those war board/ miniature games

Although not a surprising list this time I really enjoyed it :) I guessed Jamaica, Memoir, BSG and of course TI3 Was surprised by Battlelore though. I consider it too alike Memoir and though for that reason wouldn't make your cut. Good job!

Yes, we were entertained, Sam, thank you for doing these lists! Jamaica is a lovely, "cute" game, I own it, I play it sometimes, I enjoy it, and I know you really like it, but it still feels strange to see it in your top ten, if this makes any sense, though if you really really like it, then it should be there, so there you go! :)

I think Dominion is a superior game to _regular_ Thunderstone. I don't care about the theme, the time is a much bigger issue (to me personally), so Dominion it is. But Thunderstone (Advance) with epic variant... it's one of my favourite games, a HUGE improvement to the game. Highly recommended to anyone who likes deckbuilders!

@SamHealey I've recently bought Battlestar Glactica and we had a great time playing it. After watching a bunch of different reviews many people seem to have mixed feelings about the expansion. I'd love to know what you think about the expansions and how you combine them.

Pegasus Expansion is cool and noteworthy (it offers a good bit more characters and the extra battlestar on the table, and offers a few more choices)...off the top of my head, only parts of the expansions are remotely necessary (new characters and cards and what-not), and the other parts of the expansions are utterly unnecessary (New Caprica gameplay, for example, I've never played, nor do I have a desire to). So, unfortunately, Pegasus is the only expansion (off the top of my head) that I can close to fully recommend. EDIT: After reviewing what each expansion offers, I stand on what I said earlier. With the exception of all the characters that you get in the other expansions (and the cool plastic models), Pegasus offers the most bang for your buck, IMO. The New Caprica gameboard is the only part of the Pegasus expansion that I don't use. One could be happy with just the Pegasus expansion. If you're a fan of the show, and you want to play-out some of those scenarios that the show trudged through in subsequent seasons, then you'll want to go all-in, so to speak.

Oh, while I'm thinking about Memoir '44, is there a similar type game for Vietnam? I'd be interested in similar gameplay except for the Vietnam conflict.

Actually I am going to re-work the Victory Objectives for TI3. Imagine collecting VP as you go in the game and thus don't do it in a give 'phase'. It speeds up the game and thus if your a person who doesn't play due to that one negative. That's eliminated. You still must meet the conditions for the objective. I think I might also have Secret Objectives too and thus when you complete them, you demonstrate how/why and collect the VP as you go. I bet I can get the game down to about 3-4 hours (instead of 6-8 hours). Think about that. That means in one Convention slot you can play TI3, and if you want play it again and thus get 2 games in. Now you can play TI3 and another game in 2 slots of a convention. Once I'm done I'll try and post them for others to enjoy.

I think I wouldn't be able to keep myself from buying a re-themed TI3 if it were Star Wars.... That would be sick, except there are only 2 factions in most of Star Wars games. They'd have to dig up a bunch of EU factions.

The more I watch these videos, it appears to me that Sam likes the deeper, more complex games. I have similar taste and as usual, I can't find anyone who wants to play either. Of course I also like submarine simulators as a kid, so there's that.

Yes that's always the problem with those beasts. You can't find enough people with time and willingness to dive deep into it. (btw. Jamaica is really fun to play with the whole family ;).
