Mand, I get these lamb shanks often and you can do them in the microwave, you still get the juices to make gravy. Absolutely love your posts, you cook like me, taught by my Mum, old school xx

Wowser, what a cracking Sunday dinner! Sainsburys used to have their own range of frozen lamb shanks - now disappeared. Aldi here I come! Gravy with Yorkies originated in Yorkshire back in the days when meat was by far the most expensive part of a Sunday roast (not dissimilar to now really when you think about it if you're feeding a fair sized family). Basically, before the main course, the menfolk in particular would be given pieces of/or large Yorkshire puddings with some gravy from the roast joint, which was to come. The idea was to fill them up a bit so that everyone else in the family then had a fair share of the joint of meat. Being a bit of a 'mongrel' I have roots in Newcastle - as well as Yorkshire! x

Get a bigger plate 🤣🤣 Seriously looks lovely. However can the lamb shanks be defrosted first? I might have defrosted them in the fridge overnight. Also I would have put my Yorkshire pudding mix in the middle 6 cups to maybe save turning the tray round half way? I use a potato masher, it's the one gadget that is really a great invention. Only down side is washing the blumming thing! (don't have a dish washer - kitchen too small) I bet Ian will enjoy that later. I just love a homecooked Great British Sunday Dinner, you can't beat it. Love your style of cooking all freshly cooked. You prove just how easy it can be done, instead of reaching for those ready meals and it tastes a lot better too.

I've always used shanks from the butcher, but I'm definitely going to give those frozen ones a go. By the way, try adding a little bit of Branston Small Chunk Piccalilli to your mash sometime. It lifts it to a whole new level!

I remember when the butcher would give lamb shanks away. Then they became 50p and then the TV chefs started talking about slow cooking and lamb shanks became £7 each . So now it is pork shank which is delicious.As a North Yorkshire man I will grit my teeth and say you nailed the yorkies.

Real food and real portions for real people. Looks lovely. My mother used to put a little English mustard in her Yorkshire pudding mix. Not sure if that's authentic or just her preference. Enjoyed watching you. Would you be able to show how to cook beef short ribs? Everyone seems obsessed with lean cuts of meat but the meat near the bone is better I feel.

I usually get my beef dripping or Lard from Morrisons - pretty much always in stock. However, I know a fair few of the indoor market meat stalls will sell Beef Dripping - plan B for me Lard is usually 50p at Morrisons and the beef dripping a bit more pricey at £1

I've had these lamb shanks from Aldi, really enjoyed them, unlike you though, I could only have the lamb shank, no veg or other sides, ( only got a small stomach), I did cook them in a pan of boiling water, then add extra mint sauce once it was it a large pasta bowl, didn't mind there wasn't much gravy.

You just popped up. Some positive and negative things about that meal for me. I love lamb, but hubby hates it, I hate mint sauce, he likes it. And where do they hide the barley in the ingredients, maybe the gravy? As a Coeliac, barley is on my banned list, so I wouldn't even consider buying those shanks in Aldi because of that. Also, good Lord woman, did you eat all of that meal yourself? Even my hubby would find it hard to get through all that food! But as you've made me drool I might just treat myself to a fresh shank this week. I never buy frozen meals. Tfs.

Were those lamb shanks already cooked,and frozen,if so why wouldn’t you buy fresh,and cook yourself? I’m in the US and we don’t have things like precooked meats,except things like breaded chicken,or fish fillets.Sunday dinners are not something people eat here,just the same sort of food that they eat every day, also not much gravy,as the UK knows it.I never like a Sunday dinner,my mom would buy me a pork chop,when my parents were having a roast,I would have it with the tiny potatoes we called Jersey mids,and peas,which were about the only vegetables I ate as a child,when I came to America I realized it was because my mom overcooked her vegetables,and I have loved them all my life here.
@thedinnerlady91803 ай бұрын
I just wanted to try them we love lamb and it's expensive so for just the 2 of us it's quite pricey a shank in the butchers are £6 each and it was very nice nothing beats a roast leg or shoulder of lamb but it's the price and leftovers when it's just us x
