This pup was found as a stray and was missing so much hair that it was impossible to tell what breed he was. He totally transformed, thanks to a whole lot of love. Watch him turn into a very fluffy Great Pyrenees!

I understand totally what you are saying...but really, the people who are best for dogs are the ones who love them so much it's almost impossible to give them up. I know, I am a foster. Every time a dog leaves me I am heartbroken for me, but overjoyed for THEM. It's not about us....when I find them a great home where I know they will be loved and well taken care of I know that I can now foster another animal who needs my help. It's actually very rewarding. Think about it!

Moony most likely ran off and got lost.. or his owners moved to a place that disallows large breeds. Pyres are sweet, loyal dogs, but their desire to roam cannot be overstated. They were bred by monks in the Pyrenees mountains (which border France and Italy) to work alone for weeks at a time, roaming the vast mountain range, faithfully guarding their flocks of sheep. The white coat helps them blend with the flock, the size helps them face off with wolves, the strong independent streak helps them survive, but it makes them among the most difficult to train. Not for lack of intelligence though! They are escape artists, and will break your heart with their determination to roam, they are notorious for taking off at the first opportunity. There's a lot to worry about between traffic, other dogs, and people who are afraid of large dogs. They make up for it with amazing personalities, but that makes the prospect of loss even more painful. My experience with one was definitely unforgettable.

We got a great Pyrenees puppy off the side of the road a long time ago on a Christmas. Her tail was completely bald, she was underweight, and she was riddled with worms. Needless to say many years later she's all better and she's absolutely huge. She's got a mild problem with strangers but she's so gentle that she just barks and then hides under the table when a new person is around. Other than that, she sleeps in the kitchen waiting for someone to drop something.

Isableue1 I didn’t say you did. I have seen them on the farm but I had them as pets and they are the most durable, non bother dog I have ever had and like the sheep they will protect your kids but not in a mean way, they use their size to block. It’s kind of funny really, we have a Pom and my female didn’t like other females so my male would stand in between them, no growl, no nothing, just stand haha my Pom actually ended up ruling the roost though haha

When I was 5, we adopted two shelter dogs; a 6 week old Maltese poodle (who we still have today :D) and a really big white curly haired dog, who they labelled also Maltese. We never really found out his breed, only that he was giant, white, curly haired and we called him Otis. We had to move and gave him to people we thought we trusted and he ran away. I hope so much that sweet people like her are taking care of him right now.

Awwww what a beautiful boy! So glad they saved him and that he has healed and that he is with a wonderful family with plenty of room, love, and attention. I just wish every neglected, stray dog had a happy ending like his. Every dog I have owned has been a rescue. Last year I was walking my three dogs in my neighborhood like I have for years when a new family who rented a house on my street moved in with a boxer and when it saw me and my dogs walk by it jumped off a very tall back deck and ran over and began attacking my dogs. The woman who owned the dog saw it and came running over as I was beating the dog off of my dogs. Her dog ran off temporarily and she was trying to calm me down because I was in a panic and she said oh he was just playing with your dogs I said are you kidding me? After I left I called the police and filed a report because city ordinance has a leash law so they went over there and talk to the people and explain this to them. So the next day I was walking my dogs again and the man, apparently the husband of the woman, saw me and started cussing me out because I had filed a report and told me to take myself and my Mutts back to my house and stay away from his house and his full-blooded boxer. I informed him that it was a public street and that I had been walking my dogs on that street for 12 years and I would be walking them for 12 more years if I chose to do so. There was an old man there, I’m assuming was probably the father of the idiot who yelled at me and said if I see you walk down the street again I’ll let the dog loose and I hope he kills your dogs so I went and reported them again. The police officer went and spoke to them again and tell them I had every right to walk on that street and that if they did not keep their dog on a leash or made any more threats that they could get in big trouble and the policeman told me to turn my camera on whenever I walked by from now on and so I did and ever since they see me walk by with my phone pointed at them they don’t say a word. I did nothing wrong except walk my dogs and I have my dogs on leashes but yet I’m the bad guy right? And because their dog is full-blooded and mine are “mutts” I shouldn’t be allowed to walk them by his house? It blows my mind that the world could possess such an idiot.
