It's SOOO refreshing to watch another professional groomer grooming an average pet (not show) dog. So many times I think "I wish my dogs would look that good when I'm done with them". In this case you did everything EXACTLY as I do them in my small town shop that sees far too many strip-down cases and not enough "fun" cases. Thank you for demonstrating an easy to care for clip that I routinely do that is geared perfectly for the owners I have who want something stylish yet easy to care for. Great job!

Awesome job. I used to bring my 2 girls to the groomer and it cost a lot each time. Now I do it myself. I invested in good clippers and I screwed them up their hair the first few times, but each time I get better. Thanks for the lesson.

no. 1. you do not bite your hairdresser 2. you do not poop on the ground and 3. your hairdresser doesn't have to clean your behind 4. your hairdresser does not clean the inside of your ears. 5. the hairdresser doesn't have to *BRUSH* your teeth. 6. you don't claw your hairdresser. 7. you do not move when your hairdresser is doing your hair. 8. you do not whine like it's hot. 9. the hairdresser doesn't wash your bathing suit areas.

I know this was shot in 2013 but I just have to comment. This is the best, "go to" video to watch when I groom my standard poodle. I always sent my boys to the groomer, but money is tight now and that is one place I can lower bills. It is a hard job and I know how hard groomers work. This groomer is matter of fact, and it is a great instructional if your doing things your self..

The dog is not stressed at all. When you actually know what you are talking about, then you can comment. Every hold and stretch she had on the dog was to protect the dog and keep it safe and uninjured, which happens surprisingly seldom in the industry, given that we work with a moving target and razor sharp tools. This is a beautiful, clear instructional video. Learn something.

Heidi, you and Trixie made that session look so easy. When I try to groom at home, my dogs become like alligators that I have to wrestle with. No it isn't, you should not be doing half the things this woman does, especially the pinching of the skin as she does, it actually hurts the dog more than you would think. And for a pet dog you should always leave 1/2 an inch of fur, at least. Any shorter on a et dog and it will get sunburnt, carpet burns, grass stains, very cold when wet or at night even in warm climates, as well as badly affected by dirt, easy pickings for ticks, and the risk of ingrown hairs. Try a puppy cut, it is what most pet owners do. As a general rule you should never use the blade of the shaver on a dog directly, there should always be a attachment. Even if it takes longer, using small blunt scissors on a dog's face and paws is much better and safer than a shaver. The woman shown in this video is not a 'pro groomer.' Maybe she is someone who has groomed many dogs, but that does not make what she does the right way to do it.
@apicklebehaviourist6581
@apicklebehaviourist6581 8 жыл бұрын
She is not gentle at all, watching this back makes me sick. She should not work with dogs. No compassion at all. THIS is the way to making a dog dislike you. It should be your friend, enough of this "alpha' crap. You should be able to make your dog do something without using your hands, and if this woman has to result to pinching, there is something clearly wrong.

+A Pickle Behaviorist Are you kidding? Have you ever groomed a dog? She is not scruffing the dog to be dominant.. she is pulling the skin taut so the clippers will glide smoothly so as not to miss hair or not catch any skin. BTW I'm a former groomer and I know what I am talking about. Would you rather she not pull it taut and she either leaves chunks of hair unclipped or possibly the skin gets caught in the blade and cut?

Of course she pays for the service, and then complains about everything, and 10 to 1 has a spoiled, undisciplined child and dog. Just a theory though. Anyone that would rant about how poorly the dog is being treated in this video has a screw loose.

Nice video. Your poodle is perfect and so is your video. It makes me so upset to see people being so critical when they obviously don't have a clue on how to groom a dog . There is not one second on this video where that very well trained was abused or mishandled in anyway . I think the person down below who teaches pickles how to behave and eggs and bacon a should just go back to playing with food,and stop giving opinions on subjects they no nothing about. That poodle looks beautiful and Happy to me . and I would know I've Been a groomer for 27 years now and I love my job. I just can't stand it when people say such stupid things like she should not be grooming If you think you could do better pickle where is your video. Come on show us how its done clueless trainer of pickles.

I agree. The poodle seems pretty relaxed to me except when trimming the toes, and most dogs (especially my spoo) are sensitive about that area of their feet. I really like that style of cut as it gives their coat a velvety look. And knowing poodles, she probably thought that Heidi was talking to her the whole time instead of describing what she was doing.

@jackiestevens456

Joan Wells I'm a dog groomer that specializes with senior clients. look for a groomer to do one on one with her groom her straight through. also a low maintenance trim would be easier on her. one length all over so it's quicker and she doesn't have to go as often. if you have never groomed a dog before I don't recommend starting on your senior dog. she needs a professional to finish her as quick as possible. also risk of nicks are much greater with seniors as they have thinner skin. please seek a professional

It is really too bad that people that don't enjoy the breed have to get on here and make negative comments. What are you doing watching a 40 min poodle grooming video? You really must have NO life. This a good pragmatic method of cutting poodle hair. The reasons for cutting in this method are not given . I cut my poodles feet to avoid puncture infections by fox-tail seeds and brimbles. The inner ear is cut as far as I can reach. When the dog goes under anesthetic, I ask the vet to remove all hair in the ear canal. I hand shear with scissors, very carefully. Pets mart is your friend if you don't wish to do these simple maintenance things.

James Sandwitch If you have a standard, you can clean the hair from their ears with hemostats and then clean with an ear solution; either homemade or store bought of your choice. My standard hates his ears cleaned, but it's a necessary evil. I hope this helps and saves you some money!

How long does the Miami clip last? I have a toy poodle and his hair grows insanely fast like I can shave his face with a 50 blade and next week it'll be completely fluffy again like I never shaved it in the first place and the texture is like cotton he knots so easily I have to brush and comb 3-4 times a day and he'll still get knots and matted hair sometimes.
