And our first dance was to this song redone by the Deftones since this is my favorite song, and Deftones is his favorite band. You're so right. Plus Kate's lovely ever-underused harmonising only adds to the beautiful package. There are a good many versions of songs that outdo the old stuffy originals, but that's mainly cos top artists of the 80s like Kim Wilde, Duran Duran, Alphaville, Sandra, Bangles and A-ha are doing them.

Yes - the studio set decorators knew that so they had it written into the script that Ferris would use this for a fake cough but it wouldn't have that capacity to do so at the time. I played one two, or three years after the movie was made that cost $35,00.00 then which would be about $95,00.00 in todays money and it didn't do that either - this was a trick on people watching as it was recorded and then parts of someone coughing slowed down and other parts sped up and played back to simulate what they thought it would sound like through and actual synthesizer. And to my knowledge none of them do that to this day as there is no want, or desire for it in music! You can put a mic on a synth and run through it but that's about as close as you're going to get to an actual cough!

The Emulator II synth shown in this video was, at the time, a $7,995 USD synth. Anyone else notice it's also the synth in Ferris Bueller's room? No way a suburban kid from Chicago has an $8,000 synth in his bedroom. No way.

I love their version. Nick seems to have a lot of feeling singing it which makes it more powerful along with Kates oboe

The instrumentals swirling all around the voice.. the whole production of the song is so lush and whimsical, which is very typical of their best songs, but especially so for this one ...I become a child everytime I listen to their songs ....

Beautiful version and the woman’s voice is a lovely addition to the harmony. Reminds me of being in high school listening on my Walkman. The 80’s were so melancholy.

The Dream Academy was a huge favorite of mine at the time, and still is. Don't quite understand how it wasn't a greater favorite for more people.
