I passed my driving test yesterday with 4 minors first time! I took 13 lessons in the space of 6 weeks and It was honestly the best feeling. It isn’t that different to driving lessons depending on how your instructor teaches you. Focus on doing mock tests (atleast 5 before your test) and good luck!

Great tips, I did some commentary driving on my test and the examiner was saying how much they love that as they get a better idea of your awareness and planning. Mine was so friendly and we had some great chats and jokes, it was nice he said at the end he could have had a mug of tea with him and wouldn’t have spilt it as I was a calm driver. I actually thanked him after for being so nice and putting me at ease. I also commented about appropriate speed on say a dual carriageway where I could have been at 60mph but due to ridiculous levels of roadworks didn’t get past 45mph, felt at least I’d said what I would do in normal driving conditions. Since passing I set mini targets and ones been gradually slowing before say a 30mph stretch or lights so I’m not using the brakes too much.

Passed with zero minors , i wasnt expecting it and was expecting like 2-3 serious faults but somehow made no faults in the test

Do you have any pupils that have passed and have driving anxiety? I live in Ireland, which is.. pretty similar to UK when it comes to driving and I have crippling anxiety, even though I passed first time. Been trying to force myself to do little trips, and while I feel that I'm slowly getting more confident I'm still noticing that I try to avoid it unless absolutely necessary. Would make for a good video :)

Have you seen any studies/evidence proving that dry steering is actually bad for modern cars, or is it all "common sense"? I can't find any studies etc. My partner has been driving for 17 years (old Ford Ka, and 2012 Honda Civic), and has always dry steered for reverse manoeuvres, and never had mechanical problems with anything steering related - also hasn't had to replace tyres overly frequently. I can see many others online saying the same thing (with lots of people ridiculing them). I'm learning to drive, and it seems to me that for parallel park and reverse bay park, it's much easier to do a consistent setup and all observations correctly with dry steering, since it eliminates the variables of how quickly I steer or what speed I'm going while steering.
