In the manga, Towa uses her dark magic to open the wormhole that sends Bardock back in time just before Freeza's supernova. This is what starts The Episode of Bardock. That Bardock turns SSJ and kills Chilled. Then Towa abducts that Bardock and brainwashes him using her technology. The mask doesn't just brainwash, it also strengthens him. He's actually weaker without the mask. This Bardock was able to defeat Base Future Trunks, but was defeated by SSJ Future Trunks (post Cell Saga). In the Dark Empire Saga, Time Breaker King Vegeta is brainwashed. He is the primary servant by Mechikabura who grants him some power just like he has granted many of his servants the "Demon God" power.

Joshua Lowe 1st) Ermmm... the mind control device was actually suppressing Broly's power and rage (he was already naturally powerful due to being the legendary super saiyan and mentally scarred by associating Gokus saiyan name as well as crying with pain i.e getting stabbed in the belly as a baby). 2) Body possession/body swap/absorption etc hasn't always been a guaranteed power up; Captain Ginyu couldn't utilize Gokus full power on Namek but was able to utilize Tagoma's full power during the RoF arc, Zamasu (Black) needed to fight Goku multiple times to fully utilize Gokus body plus Zenkai boosts and when Kid Buu absorbed Dai Kaioshin he actually got weaker while becoming the more passive Fat Buu (the evil power was sealed away until Fat Buu gets so mad, it re-awakens the evil side). 3) I was making fun of how overused the magic/advanced tech plot device is used to artificially make characters powerful in record time (still not as a bad as the "power of friendship" trope) and yet I'll take overused tropes over getting "tickling sensation" to gain power. Say what you will about GT and yes the Super 17 arc was bad (I MUCH prefer how 17 was treated in DBS) however he was right about one thing "so you've gone blonde?, is that it?".

The Mr. GG it really isn't. The heroes versions of the characters are vastly more powerful than the super version. The super saiyan blue here is a theoretical version of super, which is stronger than tournament of power goku.(without Ultra Instinct)

Meanwhile DBH allows some old and weaker characters to shine by giving them gigantic power boost From most recently Cooler giving him Golden form to Bardock who as Geekdom says was one of the first characters to gain this type of power boost
