Idk why but of all the horrifying SCPs Ive read or heard about none have induced such primal fear and anxiety in me as this one. Just imagining a deflated skin sack doppelganger of yourself, you being fully aware and terrified of the coming doom and being powerless to stop as this entity thats stalked and terrorized you for your entire life just waits for the smallest crack or place to slither through and kill you.. is it really your twin? is it really painless? or is the fate awaiting these people akin to feeling like youve been flayed alive? no fkn idea, but whatever the deal is, being completely incapable of stopping it and the growing feeling of “Wait! Please!” just trying to get answers and comprehension thats not truly satisfactory and that wont stop your death is such a disturbing idea. Genuinely one of the best and most horrifyingly written SCPs Ive heard in years. I mean, Ive heard grander and more intricate tales more akin to novels, but in terms of straight just horror content, this hits the spot with a mix of lovecraftian “Things beyond any possible hope of comprehension or stopping” and primal “Dead baby skinwalkers are coming to steal your soul” fear

Not giving Donbry the info at the outset was a ploy. Not to play him for a fool or to leave him out to dry, but to make him more invested in it. He's correct in that the Foundation thinks he cannot beat it. But if he gets embroiled in it personally, is the one searching for answers in order to give his life meaning, he'll record it while it is happening and give them valuable data. When Flanagan says the Foundation "thought it prudent to offer [Donbry] the chance to discover a means to survive," what it meant was that he would know it was coming for him and take steps to keep it out while recording, granting the Foundation info on how the SCP gets to its victims. Additionally, if they really did think that granting him the info and resources would give him the chance to defeat it, they have chosen not to take the risk. After all, it is just harming a few people at a time with somewhat predictable results, meaning the general populace is not at risk. As far as they know, they can afford to allow it to be loose and gather intel on it before moving to contain it. If they were to move on it without caution, it might have some hidden aspect that they stir up and make the situation worse. So they sacrifice an employee that would die anyway in order to get a clearer picture on the overall situation. Sadly, he really is being treated as little more than a D-Class, being used to gather info on a relatively unknown anomaly at the expense of his life, but with the sad fact that he was a target regardless of whether he was put on or not. At least now, he could give meaning to his death.

Damn this one grew in shades of creepy.* I think it draws well from the same guiding principle Del Toro cited in his works, wherein monsters must never be the same as when the audience first perceives them (heavily paraphrased/summarized). Monsters are fundamentally that which you simply know you cannot come to know, not in any way that matters or makes your internal hackles un-raise. Many SCPs nail the initial impression or even the final conclusion, but this entry seems particularly adept at weaving the unknown, elements of genuine distress, and growing familiarity together without losing clear sight of both an organic relatable narrative AND unsettling, self-consistent horror which reflects well on the author. Well done to them and well done to TES for once again bringing us an excellent narration and story! *Now that I think about it, the ending left me with a similar impression that I recall feeling from the addendums to The Flesh That Hates - in the interest of avoiding spoilers, it was when the drones captured what was underground. It was one of my first exposures to the SCP universe and was very unexpected at the time. I guess that makes this entry all the more impressive for managing to capture a similar vein of feeling after reading/listening to hundreds of entries at this point.
@tacticalidiots2340
@tacticalidiots2340 Жыл бұрын
The ending reminds me of the android from Red Dwarf that judges everyone in the universe throughout time. It would decide whether the person lived a worth while life, the judge of this would be the person themself, a mirror of themselves. If they didn't live worthwhile lives they'd be replaced with an alternate version of themselves that never had a chance to live, a different sperm or egg or something like that. When the scp started asking if they were happy I immediately thought of that.

I like this one it still gives that feeling that the agent is very much mortal and other than the circumstances hes in is very much non-anomolous and hes just a regular person trying to make sense of whats going on. I feel these are the best kind of stories for depicting how the people of the scp foundation should be, a group of people way out of their element trying to rationalize illogical situations with what little information they have at their disposal and all the courage they can muster while staring directly at the unknown waiting for what could be their own demise just for a chance to fight back

Some people say that twins are one soul split into two becoming two identical twins, so if you are born yet the twin didn’t survive, it could be said your souls became one again. But even if you end up becoming one person again before you open your eyes into this world…who’s to say some part of that lost twin doesn’t still exist somewhere and in some form?

one thing i love about this channel, besides the amazing storytelling of course, is that i have trouble listening to long content like this without also reading it, my adhd makes my mind wander too much to pay attention to just the audio, but your voice is so clear and crisp that auto-generated youtube subtitles don't miss a single beat on what you say, it's pretty much the only reason i'm able to enjoy this great content!

I think what got me at the end, besides the vivid description of the entity rushing the car and disappearing under it, was the horrible way it spoke through Flanagan, stealing his perpetually upbeat voice for his own purpose. It was reminiscent of multiple _Doctor Who/Torchwood_ episodes (which pinged more with the many British references in the testing words the agent used).
