Love the fact you take pride in your work AND your workshop and tools, always clean and tidy, do 'do work son' and then clean up... I see so many that 'do work son' but in a pig sty, my OCD would let me do that. Great channel and build.

Man, long before this video I could see your vision. I'm not really a hot rod guy. I'm not into V8s. I'm more a Japanese or Euro guy. Bit as a real car guy I can appreciate all builds. And my number 1 criteria for all builds is workmanship. I don't like art, but I can appreciate the time and effort put in. But I really like this. It's giving me an idea of something I now REALLY REALLY want to do. I know my fabrication skills are basic and my patience is too thin for quality work, but I would attempt it anyway, if I could afford it. I simply can't. So in the meantime, I'll continue watching videos of people who CAN afford it.

Great work. I've found that when filing aluminum, soapstone on the file will keep the aluminum from sticking, and to clean files, I use bamboo, it's super hard and stringy, just a few strokes, and presto, a clean as new file.

Fabtabulous. This is the stuff that made me subscribe. The design of the beads gives it a sense of motion. A sense of movement. Please mirror that in the rest of the panels. That will bring the whole interior together into one cohesive design.

Amazing Job ! I thing you should have slightly wheeled the panel, on all beading track, before bead it. It would have stretched the metal in beading zone, and ahen you bead rool it, after that, the metal sheet has very less stress than otherway. The panel is very much straight, and doesn't limp as this. It's Lazze's trick, and works flawlessly. Cheers from France ! ;)

You're correct about the files. Companies have been telling us these automated tools are so speedy and make the end result better....brrrrrt. A quality set of files, a quality hammer and chisel/punch set, will get you so much farther ahead. If you get a chance pick up a "vixen" file for your aluminum filing.

I was talking with a Sheet Metal worker who did aluminum panels for race cars and street rods. He told me that he used sheet metal screws usually the kind that framers used to tie their metal studs together. He would attach the panels with these screws and once he had all screws installed he would remove one and replace with a pop rivet. This way with a large panel he did not need a bunch of Cleco clamps. A benefit is that the whole panel system could be installed and removed at any time. When the project was satisfactorily completed the screws could be replaced with pop rivets.
@Thefabforums
@Thefabforums 6 жыл бұрын
why not just use clecos though

Not everyone has unlimited funds or sponsors to tool up their shop. It would be nice to find a fabricator who will show the viewer how to get the same results without all the special tooling. Please tell me how many clecos it will take to complete your project Bibster without permanently attaching any panels?
@Thefabforums
@Thefabforums 6 жыл бұрын
@@marcelf21953 Not sure. Clecos are cheap, fast, and can be used over and over again for the next 50 years.

i got some pneumatic tin snips and i must agree with you. thats the thing that allows you to do real work on sheet metal. good luck trying to cut that consistent with regular tin snips. not gonna happen... angle grinder? yeah maybe for straight cuts but still not as fast and sure as hell not as clean as with those. if you are not doing heavy duty stuff you can easily get away with the 40-50 $ ones, they do the trick for most stuff you want to use them for

Kyle, it looks like you put roughly 1/16" of step in those ribs in your pattern. Did you notice much of a change in the fitment of the panel on the flange after bead rolling the panel? If you go with deeper ribs to get a stiffer panel, the overall dimensions of the panel will shrink up. What I have done on my panels before is to leave an extra 1/2"-ish of material on the perimeter to trim off after the pattern is rolled in the panel. Deeper ribs will likely also mean that you will have to pre-stretch the panel, like you mentioned in the beginning of the video. Good video, man. Love seeing the progress. Hope to see ya at Fabtech.
