Yours, IMHO, are by far the best reactions to dearest Angelina; and this one is just sheer delight. Perhaps my favorite observation of yours is the ultra slowed down analysis of her vibrato between Bb and Db minor. UN-REAL! You really do augment viewers' understanding of what makes Angelina's vocal performances and choices so extraordinarily extraordinarily exceptional. It really is cool that she exists!

But she is a genius and the gratest female singer b y now anyway ! but no, she never wrote any music : even on her new songs, she wrote the words but not the music ...

Now that Angelina is 16, she has grown to 6'1" tall, so she has a long neck for maneuvering her larynx. You have to hear her latest release of the classic jazz standard, My Funny Valentine, recorded by everybody including all the legends. Her version is the most beautiful I've ever heard. Her control of her instrument seems to have jumped a level in the last year & it's just gorgeous, as is she. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e7p3f8WkrKqleWQ.html I really love your reactions to Angelina, I hope we don't have to wait so long for the next one. She said she will be releasing her long-awaited album this year & she has 3 concerts in Norway this July. When she finishes school this June, I think she will go ballistic & her Record Label will start promoting her globally.

I've seen vocal coaches analyze this before and i was thought that either they didn't understand all the technical aspects or perhaps they just wanted to keep it abreviated, but you have gone into depths of technique that was so fascinating, interesting and entertaining at the same time!!!! That was awesome!!! Loved how you slowed the video down to analyze the nuances of her technique, jaw and larnyx placement. Thanks for taking so much time and effort to go so deep into this.

Angelina Jordan was born in Jan 2006. She is currently 16 (barely 9 in this performance) - She began singing at the age of one and a half - At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through KZfaq videos and studied all greats from Jazz history. - When Angelina was 6, she was traveling and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. The girl complimented her on her pretty shoes, so Angelina took them off and gave them to the girl. She made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public she is barefoot. (that's a shortened version. the full story is more touching than the way I have told it here) - She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the show at just 8 years old. - In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the money, the 8 year old replied "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes" - The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. They do not want her to be thrust into stardom before she has a chance to grow up as a normal child, and finish her education. They allow her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that come in. I have heard they have turned down offers from many record labels and even disney. - Angelina has covered more than 80 songs over the last 5 years, everything ranging from old classics to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else) - Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, and many more. All of which heard her doing covers of their songs and were blown away. - Angelina has written three of her own original songs (at 12 years old): "What is Life", "Shield" and "Oslo". (all are amazing) In summary, Angelina Jordan is destined to be one of the greatest singers to have ever lived. This is just my opinion, but if you listen closely to any of her stuff you will hear the greatness. She sings with a natural style. There is no acting, no showing off, there are no unnecessary runs, or big belty notes just for the purpose of saying "hey look at me sing". She once said "when I sing I go into a magical world in my head", and you can hear the results of that. When Angelina sings it is pure soul, pure emotion, pure music.

I like that you pointed out that there is some bit of magic happening with her that goes well beyond the technique itself. Techniques can be taught and learned, but Angelina has something that I believe can't be learned. It is something that is happening organically from within her that just can't be replicated. It is this natural element that really draws me (and so many others) in when she sings. You forget that you are watching a "performance" and you just feel like you are sitting there with her as she expresses herself. She is the most engaging artist I personally have ever listened to.

AJ was 9 years and two months and a superstar in Scandinavia, we all are not quiet sure why the studio people did not recognize her at once. In interviews in Norway they all said: we recognized her after 30 seconds into the song. We first thought, it was a joke from some rich parents, renting the studio including all. From that day on, the musicians came running, when AJ called. As I understand it they are still her friends. They coined her nickname THE BOSS. Pro musicians all over the world seems to use this nickname today, when speaking of Angelina Jordan.

Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the arrangement based after listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight on how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with the same band at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and gives them some instructions. Most Angelina fans never have a favorite song because the territory she covers is so wide and deep that you can’t compare her songs. There is a cloud of thirty or forty that comprise my favorites. Want to see what Angelina can do? Try her jaw dropping cover of Michael’s Billie Jean. Or her unbelievable cover of I’d Rather Go Blind to hear completely different voices and genres than you’ve heard before. Or try some of her originals, like Million Miles or Seventh Heaven. The girl with a thousand voices is truly once in a lifetime good.

Very well said. I'm 59 and I've never encountered a vocal talent like Angelina. She is indeed a musical genius, and this is from someone who thinks the label "genius" is far overused and I have never before described any singer as a musical genius.

Oops! I watched and listened to this reaction on the day you posted it but did not comment, as I scuttled over to watch and listen to your reaction to Bohemian Rhapsody again. 🙂What can an old man say. Only echo what so many have commented below. You are the very best Reactor, for you bring to the table not only an incredible knowledge of how the voice works, but explain it in a way that even I can understand. As if this wasn't enough, you bring with it a wonderful personality and sense of humour. And thank you for drawing my attention to the smile on the face of the Bass player. The only downside is that you don't react often enough to Angelina. Is it because you are concerned that there will be too many "Belgian chocolates" if you do more? 🙂 As you understood, it is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, and she based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. Things I found particularly worthy of note in this video are (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The occasions where Angelina gave silent instructions to the band (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The instant transformation for "permanence" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I remark on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. You have seen in the comments that Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The chameleon of Song" for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the colour of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Not being tone-deaf is all that is required to enjoy good music. Having experts like you analyze and describe what little Angelina is instinctively doing takes is to a different level! The charming way you do it is quite special in itself, and I look forward to watching other reactions/analysis of diverse vocalists.

A very informative reaction. You acknowledged that she is a genius, but are you aware that this is her interpretation and arrangement? She has been doing her own arrangements since she was 8. Those notes at the beginning were changes or as she calls them "wishes" to the band director. If you are going to jump ahead, I suggest her performance of "Feeling Good". There are two versions, one indoors, with strings and brass accompaniment, and one outdoors with a smaller band. I recommend the indoor version.

Unbelievable reaction! The best reaction to Angelina I have ever seen I think. I haven''t seen you since you lost it last time, but I'm planning on changing that, as I have now subscribed. The easiest sub that I can recall. One video a week ????????? Are you kidding me ??? You just CAN'T let Angelina slip by, you need to react to HER once a week. Do that and I'm an as happy camper as can be. Not even kidding :-) NOW! If you want to hear and watch the most recent Angelina video (It is an absolute MUST WATCH), you have to react to her new rendition of "My Funny Valentine", which she dropped on Valentine's Day a month ago. I think that is her most beautiful performance to date, and so do most of her fans. When I say her NEW rendition, it's based on the fact that she also released a rendition of the song when she was 10 years old. The two renditions are almost down to the date 6 years apart. Both are stunningly beautiful. While I'm at it, I'll give you links for both renditons. Just note that Angelina is currently 16 years old, as of January 10th. She stands 6'1 (1m 85 cm) tall and could probably easily become a model if she so wanted. She is becoming an incredibly beautiful, young woman for sure. A common reaction to AJ performances from ages 6-12 is: 'I don't think she understands how good she really is ...' What is going on behind those fiercely intelligent eyes when she is singing remains an eternal mystery to me, but you've managed to raise the curtain just a little with this fabulous review of what I and many other fans believe is her stand-out pre-teen performance ... the one that will be revisited in years to come for documentary biog films and that will occupy a whole chapter in books about her rise to fame. Your reaction also is outstanding ... a worthy companion to what is a seminal work in Angelina's canon - thank you! R (Australia)

Thanks for a fantastic analysis. Since I first saw this yesrs ago when it was published on KZfaq I have considered this as some of the most magic 4 minute of the music history. So grateful that you were able to explain in detail what's so special about it, her technique and the musical intelligence she uses. That she has an unique musical intelligence is absolutely certain, I attended a concert some years ago where one of the musicians really messed up the song and the rythm. All other singers (of any age), would have just given up, but Angelina in a couple of milliseconds just improvised, made a couple of humming notes, and brought the song back in rythm and structure. That was insane to witness.

I LOVE your analyses. You understand what your hearing & seeing, just as Angelina "understood the assignment." Yes, she's undeniably a genius: at 9 years of age, she created the best arrangement of this song since the original (arguably better than the original, as she screams on pitch!), displays better control of her instrument than top-tier professional singers, and wraps it all in her special kind of magic that just touches us inside somehow. One thought, however: you've seen her at 13 and now at 9; jumping into the present for your next reaction only gets you to 16! It may be 10 more years before Angelina reaches full maturity and is in her prime. How scary is that?

I would suggest her My Funny Valentine she just released on Valentines Day this year. It is her newest release and she really displays lots of textures. Thank you for your enthusiastic reaction to Angelina. Your response was not surprising! Norwegian born Angelina began singing at the age of one and a half, and by age three was listening to jazz and classics legends on repeat. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of only 8, singing old time classics from Billie Holliday and George Gershwin, and became the youngest ever winner of an international Got Talent Show! She also went viral on America's Got Talent the champions in 2020 with her unique version of Bohemian Rhapsody. She is a true prodigy. She is now 16, and has recorded over 160 songs, including mostly covers and several originals. A major attraction to Angelina's music is the emotion and attitude she conveys, although she has not experienced the life events! She is known as the barefoot princess of 1,000 voices as she can adjust her tone, style, and register for any song or genre. She was signed by Republic Records over a year ago. Here is link from ages 6 to 15 to her chronological performances, including five originals. m.kzfaq.info/sun/PL2v8kgVeo4EbYDVnRwObjETfWpXbzbgIO Why does Angelina sing barefoot? When she was 6 years old, she was in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own shoes and has forever performed barefoot as a reminder of all those less fortunate. At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. She is a special individual, and one you cannot follow without developing an emotional bond. Angelina penetrates hearts because she is humble and has compassion for humanity. Her stated goal from childhood was to sing for the world and spread love and peace. I trust this will cause you to embrace her as millions of others have, and that you will continue down the rabbit hole from which you would not want to escape. Peace.

And this reaction - wow - the things you see/hear/recognize, from the magical emotional impact, to the extremely technical nuances... Thank you for your incredible insight into all of it! 🥰 You are just so intelligent and genuine. Loved this, as much as hearing Angelina sing it (for the 100th+ time). She's 16 today, and has only somehow gotten better over the past seven years. She has 150+ covers and originals now. Most recently, she covered "My Funny Valentine", it demonstrates her passion and gifts for performing old-style jazz. And as many have suggested already, there exist 4 performances related to her Norway's Got Talent experience (7-8 yrs old). Each amazing and powerful. Gosh, there are so many more to pick from. Just please pick something! All of her fans (her Angels) will love to see you react more to Angelina. Thank you again! And Happy St Patrick's Day! 💚🍀

You should definitely react also to a couple of songs from her time when she won Norway Got Talent. There was a huge growth between her first auditions (Gloomy Sunday - Billie Halliday, and I'm a fool to want you (acapella) when she was 7, vs her final song at age 8 (Summertime) when her English was incredibly improved and her front tooth was almost completely grown! In terms of her latest, it's a tough choice. "Million Miles" is her own song dedicated to her grandpa who had recently passed (amazing songwriter too!). Her absolute latest is "My funny valentine". I don't know how one would pick from them!

I’ve been waiting for a long time for you to do a reaction to this song……or any other song by Angelina. I enjoyed your reaction to her performance of Bohemian Rhapsody. I must say, it was a lot of fun to watch you react to this one. This is the first song I ever heard her sing after I stumbled on her about a year ago while searching for Pink Floyd reactions (I am a huge Pink Floyd fan). Once I heard this song, I immediately fell deep into the Angelina Jordan Rabbit Hole, and I have been there ever since. If you want to get current with AJ, her recent cover of “My Funny Valentine” (at age 16) is the most beautiful cover of this song I’ve ever heard. There are thousands of “Angelina’s Angels” who agree, so I know I’m not in a minority. The list of songs to react to is very long, but you need to spend some time on this. You’re reactions are a wonderful combination of talent and performance review, mixed with very cute humor and beauty. I likely can’t provide any sort of list for you from my perspective, as I’m sure you have your own ideas, but from “My Funny Valentine”, maybe go to “Feeling Good” (age 10), “What a Difference a Day Makes” Outdoor version (age 8), Million Miles (Her own original song…….research the story behind the song), “I’m Still Holdin” Out for You” (age 12, leaked by unknown source………This performance is one of her very best and if released like a normal song for the marketplace, should have been a number one song…..in my opinion. This short list is just that!!! She has about 150 or so cover’s and about 5 of her own songs available on her two You Tube channels. I know that there are a lot of very talented and wonderful singers out and around in our world, but I believe that this girl is so very special in so many ways, that she will soon be one of the greatest of all time. I’m sorry if that sounds one sided, but I can’t help trying to express how thankful I am just to be able to hear her sing everyday. Her family is providing a wonderful environment for her growth and has given all of her performances to us on her You Tube Channels. She has a very special family who is taking careful care of her along the way. She has already brought more smiles to more faces on this planet, than most people see in a lifetime…….well…….maybe?? Angelia has created so many wonderful covers and originals already that it will take you sometime to get “caught up”. But don’t despair!! All of the time you invest in digging into this girls’ music, will be time you will always treasure. Check out “Rusty Shacklefords” You Tube Channel. He probably has the best information on AJ in one place. There are many others. You will have to set aside some “special time” to look into this girls growing history. I’m sorry that I didn’t provide links to her songs to make sure you get the right ones, but I’m not as tech aware as I should be….more of an “old school” guy. I hope to see more reactions on AJ’s music in the near future. Thanks for your time. Absolutely wonderful reaction to IPASOY.
