It was wonderful to see this and for me, a non beekeeper, to realise the intense sound difference of the swarm as it dropped into its new home and then you mentioned their sound after they’d settled….was just amazing. Thank you so much.

I can't believe that you mentioned duct tape. I've currently got a (salvaged from the freeway) ladder duct tape to my mesquite tree on top of pallets on top of my big old flatbed farm truck trying to get what I thought was a swarm but really is now an established hive in the tree. Catch yerself some bees!" all the various KZfaq beekeepers said. . . "It'll be fun!!" They said. . . I'm learning, (the hard way) filming and uploading as I go. .

Well, i caught some empty new queen cups on an inspection 2, 3 weeks ago. Put a super on and some blank frames. Swarmed anyway into my neighbors yard while we were out of town. By the time we got home 30 to 40 minutes later they were gone. Good on you for catching yours... You inspire me to be a better beekeeper.

I think I managed to get lucky, one hive didn't survive over winter, so in the process of cleaning it out I had a swarm form and take over the abandoned hive I was cleaning. I had a lucky break there, especially as right above it, I had a nuc with a few frames inside it getting ready to move into a brand-new hive! So, bar the honey jars, I think I'm mostly all set this year.

@@TheHoneystead Caught me unawares as well, I just thought surely, there are too, too many bees for this nuc!?? I might still move them yet, though, I haven't properly water proofed the hive they're in. So it's slowly disintegrating, fingers crossed that nothing happens...

That's a good size swarm. I thought I was on top of everything in my apiary yet 3 swarms so far. I was able to hive all 3 but each was a different situation. I really want to keep them from swarming but it's so much fun catching them. I add a frame of brood from another colony and that seems to anchor them. Good luck with your bees!

Yup, i had one the other day. The swarm was sitting in a tree in our garden. The trick with the listening to the bees after you caught them to know if there is the queen inside the box is a good idea! Thank you for sharing your wisdom! I have found that waiting for a couple minutes and watching how they fly is good too. They will start to move towards the box and if there are a few bees at the tree left they will start to fly to the box as well. It's a beautiful magical feeling and thing to catch a swarm.

Congratulations on the new swarm catch but I have a interesting question and I hope you can kind of give me guidance on this one. Let’s say you have 6 acres of land out in the country and you’re starting up a bee sanctuary I forgot what they call that Avery something like that but to make a long story short let’s say you hear a guy in your 6 acres and he says my bees just swarmed on one of your trees but you caught it so what do you do then tell him that you caught a swarm or do you tell them losers weepers or what are you doing a situation like that do you let him take them or do you keep them because I think it’s open free game right? God bless you young lady once again congratulations for you and your mom and your family and friends stay safe✝️✝️✝️

@@TheHoneystead yes swarms are awesome 4 yrs ago i started with 3 hives lost them in winter then i gotten 10. Lost all them in winter then i did some home work thought about things, and thought about never thinking negative mites i took a self crash course in mites, so come aug and sept two yrs ago i gotten a mite text cup i then tested one hive in this one hive i had over 40 mites per 300 bees i then treated them well with ox vapor just in the first treatment you should have seen all the dead mites on the bottom board i gave them then three rounds of treatment. For summer yr round i run slatted bottom racks i came a crossed them from an Amish were i by hive bodies in paradise pa lancaster, so the slatted rack help keep hive beatles out and wax moths but the only by 95 percent moths cant get in at all i do not reduce entrance for winter i did last yr and i found water and honey running out jan fed and march and there was mold i turned my intercover slots down and front. Reducers made a problem in winter this past winter i did not use any reducers not one hive had mold or watered down honey running out of it it all payed off cause now i have 30 hives

Was it your longhive again? That's what they call being farmer, don't matter if its 🐔's to 🐄's or even honey 🐝's. 🤠Great pic of the bees on the rim that will make a nice desktop. I'll hear them do that when I go to put my frames back in and put the hive back together. I figured it was because I put a frame with the queen back in? Had my 1st hive for 2months now and still not seen her. I see eggs so she is in there, but ya I'll put a random frame in and that low tone roar will start unify and then over a few lessen in volume.🤠Got to watch my 1st full on waggle dance yesterday. 🤠 Ty for sharing your family time, Blessed Days...

Giving an open brood to a swarm actually is an old trick (I learned from my father), but NOT to make a new queen, but to prevent the swarm to get away from the new hive (it may happen). The bees will NEVER leave behind an open brood.

Hi swarming in nature is .not the same as people who keep hives .a better way is preventing your hives from swarming in the first place .(Stepplar )harvesting the excellents ,reducing the bee numbers before they think about swarming ,adding to weak colonies .or increasing your hive numbers. Food for thought With a swarm after its caught and settled add some sealed frames of brood .This will engourage fast colony build up also forming the cluster more quickly enabling a more harmony to the colony ..reducing stress.. Most swarms have old or older bees . You need bees of all ages for a colony to expand efficiently .

Well thank you for this video. I just caught my first swarm yesterday by watching this video. I do have a question for you…some of the bees are flying around where I caught them yesterday. I caught it and placed in a hive, let them settled until dark, stuck grass in opening then moved it to the “bee yard.” This afternoon there are some bees flying around where they had been left to settle. Is that ok?
