Pollack Spawn in the early months of the year. January to March so I try not to take any during these months. After allowing them to spawn and fatten up a bit its time to stock the freezer with some prime eating fish. Today I have the best Pollack wreck fishing session in years. So many good healthy Pollack on the wrecks - I believe this is due to the restrictions imposed on commercial fishermen over the winter stopping them netting the wrecks for Pollack. I truly hope this continues to improve the Pollack stocks and subsequently the fishery.
Here are links to some of the tackle that I used in this video. I hope it helps.

A very jealous Cornish fisherman that now lives in Bulgaria, far from the sea, would like to congratulate you on your fishing and your KZfaq journey! You have come so far since the beginning and its great to see you making a huge a success of your passion 👏🏼 So many elements in your videos now that I can't even begin to highlight individual segments. From hook to plate, tackle knowledge, boating skills, diving pleasures, safety, conservation, shore, reef and boat, educated.....the list goes on. The way you go about your fishing is admirable. You respect the environment and the catch. You are knowledgeable and pass that knowledge on. You dont take for granted what you are lucky enough to have surrounding you. You are entertaining whilst informative. Beyond that, you are a pleasure to watch and learn from! Im not one for leaving comments normally but some things you just cant leave without giving kudos to those that put so much time and effort into giving us a glimpse into their world. Pretty awesome and im not just talking about the fishing 😉 May it long continue 👏🏼

I'm a new watcher, just found you in the last week and been watching from Melbourne, Australia. You've inspired me to set up a beach day with friends and look up the marine laws here and learn a bit about our local environment while we check out our rock-pools. I grew up watching Les Hiddins and you two have a lot in common. I'm blown away by how you know all the Latin names and how your channel remains so wholesome. All this to say your efforts are greatly appreciated and maybe the haters are more likely to comment but there are a lot of us who silently watch and love the message that you bring. I did laugh when I heard you say that Aussies will be cringeing when I put my hands into these caves and crannies in the rock pools. You're damn right about that!

@@TheFishLocker Unfortunately that is how it is. I prefer to strive to become more like those that are successful than being jealous of the fact that they are. I'm sure you're strong enough to ignore the hate and use all the positivity to motivate you and continue on your journey 👍🏼 If I ever return to Cornwall I will have to try and catch you for a fishing lesson 😉 Keep up the great work, I'm already looking forward to your next video 🧐😁

Great day of fishing. I haven't deep sea fished. If I did the first thing I'd get after the basic necessities is a descender device. It's a much better option than penetrating the swim bladder to release air and hoping the fish lives after that. Some do some don't. Irresponsible not to have one. Fish don't care if they are out of season or not the target species. Enough harm has been done to the oceans and fisheries. Thanks for the video.

I like your concern for the welfare of the catch. I learned of the descender in Australia about 15 years ago, and made my own. My boat was based in the Isle of Man, and the fishing was similar to what you had on this trip- a fish evry drop! With the descender, I'd let the fish sit about half way down, ond more offen than not, they'd just sod off when they were ready .Then I found a few marks where fish of a good size were lurking in shallower water, so no more barotrauma -I've had that with me ears, and it bloody well knacks! All went back to fight another day, this pleased my catch and release sensibilities. Love your vlogs, they make me miss my boat more each time I watch.

Hey John, hello from 🇨🇦. Do you know the stories of these wrecks that you’re fishing? Is it possible to know the name of the boat may be a little bit about how the boat found itself on the bottom? I think it’d be really interesting as a small segment on these wreck drifts, and give us a little more insight into the boat itself, size, type, age... I also really like it when you send a GoPro down, all the Perhaps there’s not enough light. Either way your new posts are a highlight after a busy day. Please keep up the great work.

John, aside from your fishing skills I really admire your talent for monologuing into a small camera, solo at sea in a small boat. Nice fillets too.
@TheFishLocker

It’s easier when solo, I always feel like a real numpty when there’s folks around. 🤣

If you put your lead on a weak link, i use 20lb nylon/ flouro with a couple of granny knots, it saves losing lures. I tie the leads up with a loop on the end in advance to save time.
@TheFishLocker
@TheFishLocker 15 күн бұрын
I’ve tried it but found that occasionally your mainline can wrap around the mono weak link and you get it a right mess.

Your a very lucky man .I am now 70 and in the past owned a small boat and fished the solent but it got to expensive to moor it at pompey so i sadly had to give it all up .I would love to see my life out fishing but age and medical issues means i will probably never sea fish (nor probably see the sea again) .Make full use of your life on the sea .Boy that fish looked great ,❤

Great video loved the filleting, it reminded me when i fished out from beer with my dad many years ago. The water was as flat as a lake,not a cloud in the sky,no land to be seen and the fishing was great.
