Great fly Jim. Tied one when the wife and I went to Yellowstone 3 years ago but never got around to trying it out. Threw it on tonight at the Little Hole section of the Green River in Utah and landed my biggest fish in the past 3 days, a 16 inch brown. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for this vid! I've been tying these for my last few trips and have found this fly to be tremendously effective on trout and perch. I drift it until it drags, then pulse it back in just under the surface. A few false casts and it floats just fine again.

Jim, if you would make a V shape in your sissors and just push instead of cut you will not cut your hackle fibers. Learned the from AK Best. Larry

Hey Jim, Japanese flys have been around thousands of years, but that doesn't mean we can't change them a little. That's what tying your own flies is all about isn't it? I love the traditional patterns, but I am not a purist and like to free hand it once in awhile. Someday I will see if any of my freaky creations will work. All the best, Sean

Awesome video Jim, I love ten kata style flies. What were you using to snip your thread and hackles off with?

Curious to know how you "harvested" the bootlace. Are the filaments from the core of the lace? Or just the outer sheath unraveled? What would be a suitable substitute from typical synthetic fly tying materials?
