Being a loyal Apple customer for decades, I’m ready to dump them. I’m sick of giving them money whenever they choose to make things unavailable, incompatible, or non-upgradeable. Perfectly good machines, I can’t even use now. It’s crap for their customers and for our environment.

@@berryk.4174 I just spent £3000 on a MacBook Pro and can't now run most of the thousands of pounds worth of software I bought over the years. I had to buy Adobe Photoshop twice to keep up with MAC's OS over the years. Too cheap? No - Brett just sees the rip off.

Why the hell should someone throw away a perfectly usable Imac they purchased for $2,000 5 years ago, because Apple has decided to no longer allow customers with a system 5-6 years old to be able to use it? What kind of crap is that? This never ever happens with a Windows-based computer. People are still using window-based computers that are easily 10-20 years old. Visit a Bank or car shop, and you will see this often, as it costs them millions of dollars to change their systems.

Thank you so so much!! I updated my OS to 10.15.7, lost GarageBand in the process, and since I can't update to Big Sur, thought I had lost Garageband forever! But thanks to your video, I was able to re-download it from previous purchases! Thanks!

Thank you so much for your help! As soon as you mentioned the hardware and software compatibility issue, I knew I might be stuck with an updated computer that is a mid 2012 but unable to write music anymore and use GarageBand but when you mentioned going back in and downloading the latest version that would be allowable on my machine, I praised the Lord!!! I'm a songwriter and I need some sort of software to work with and I love using GarageBand because it's free and very easy to use. I don't want anything like technology stopping the creative process. So thank you once again for posting this video and giving us such helpful tips!!!!!

This is a great video! I came back to Mac because of the drummer feature in the new GarageBand, but I noticed Apple does support a 2014 Mac mini which is a non upgradable and really kind of "nerfed" version of the Beastly 2012 Mac mini, which originally was supported by Big Sur. I was able to upgrade (legally mind you) to Big Sur on a Mac mini server from 2012 using Patched Sur. If you search KZfaq you'll find it- I'm reluctant to put a link to another bloke's video from here- seems rude and I don't want to be disrespectful. Anyway, Big Sur runs amazingly well on a 2012 Mac mini. That's my daily driver and I have had no issues with updates, etc. Big Sur runs well on a lot of "unsupported" hardware. I'm calling bollocks on Apple for making an inferior dual core 2014 machine that you can't upgrade the one they support rather than the fully upgradable 2012 Mac mini. I understand that we all love getting that money, but c'mon now, Apple!

@@TheGaragebandGuide Hello, I am running GarageBand version 10.3.5 on an (iMac 27inch 2017) 3.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5, 16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 running MacOS Catalina version 10.15.1 with 874.97 available of 1.03 TB of hard drive space and for the last month every time I try to record in GB it gives me this message: "The audio engine was not able to process all required data in time" this happens every time I attempt to record, any help would be so very much appreciated, Thanks in advance...

GUYS. I found solution for people who haven't install GarageBand before. You just need to get access to ANY Apple computer with Big Sur for just a moment, then log into AppStore on this device, download and install GarageBand. Then you can come back to your computer and in AppStore, in "Account" tab you'll see the GarageBand! Then just need to click cloud (download)- AppStore will just ask you if you want to download older version. Exactly as it's shown in "Restore Purchases" part of this video. And BANG, You're welcome! P.S. I'm from Poland mf's. Where other people make problems, we make solutions. Hope you know somebody with BigSur device. If not, go to the iSpot and log there. If this is not possible, you can purchase a new one (computer), follow the instruction and then turn it back. Cheers!

As an advocate of Apple products and especially Garage Band, I have realised this: This whole situation is a result of apple's aggressive marketing and control using updates and obsolescence to support new purchases. I have this years MacBook (Big Sur, iNTEL) pro and it just doesn't work as a GB machine. The 7 year old macs that I have run GB flawlessly so thats what I use. The 2021 MacBook pro is just for emails. I accidentally deleted GB from my Catalina version so this was a life saver thanks.

I had a phone conversation with the MAC support people this morning. They told me that if have a friend or band mate who's already using Garageband, then they can sign into their account on my MAC and download an older version for me. I'll let you know how I get on.

Thank you, guy, got a Macbook 2013 with El Capitan, wanted to lend it to my son, who is a musician as I am. Deleted all crap and updated to Big Sur. And then, I don't know if it is the same problem as you, but similar, the version I had didn't work and the version from the App Store was for OS 12.something and didn't either. Desperate until I found you, what you said made sense, followed your procedure and it worked as if magic. Many thanks, dude.

If you're looking for an older version of GarageBand, the easiest way of getting a copy would be to buy an iLife disc on eBay. You can easily get one for about £20 - 40...

Glad I follow you sir. I thankfully was able to install an older version of garage band but I think it looks like the best option for me very soon is to upgrade the mac device and possibly consider get with logic pro. Nothing against garage band. I downloaded main stage cause it came with with logic pro instruments and what not that I could use on garage band. I was very pleased with that set up for awhile. so many options, so much to learn.

Thanks for the info! I made a Monterey virtual machine on my Windows laptop (not sure how legal that is) and used it to download Garageband, right now it's downloading on my Catalina desktop and it's such a relief to finally have it. 🙏

I have a hard time finding what app's latest version works with which older OSX's on just about any app. This would be greatly helpful. I have El Capitan on one partition and Mojave on another. If I get have High Sierra, what version will I get in GB then? Yosemite? etc.

Thank you SO MUCH! You solved my problem. I am disgusted by the tactics Apple uses to force me to buy new things I don't want or need. It seems there should be a law to protect consumers from their predatory behavior. Used to love my mac but am thinking that if they make it impossible for me to continue using the 3 perfectly good mac machines I own, my next purchase will be a PC!!!

So there is a way to do it… Go to a local Mac or find a friend with a newer machine… log into your App Store account on the computer and install garage band on that machine… it will add to your purchase history and then you can install… or rent out a Mac in the cloud and do the same thing.

Garage Band 6 was so good. Being able to have the mixer, the editor, and the effect panel all open at once. Can't do that now with the newer version. So much unneeded clicking

What if your hard drive crashed and was restored without GarageBand 'll or 6.0.5 on record as a purchase. Just a newer GarageBand 10 that is not the latest and with HighSierra you can't get the latest. I want the old GarageBand '11. I loved it.

I have kind of a different reason why I definitely want the 10.3.5. Version of Garageband on my new Mac. I never heard anyone else talk about it, but I can't imagine I'm not the only person with this particular reason: The 10.3.5. version contains a standard vocal plugin which can transform MALE VOCALS very realistic into FEMALE (sounding) VOCALS. The newer versions don't have this particular plugin (which comes with the basic installation of the older version). This plugin is better and more realistic as any other in 2022 FX plugin from Apple or any other available FX/Audio plugin from other companies, and it gives a fully realistic sounding female voice as result. So... I got a new version of Garageband on my new Mac (and that 10.3.5. on my old iMac, which only remins here because of THAT plugin) and I just want that 10.3.5. version on my new Mac!

I tried to get round the problem by buying an iPad, but the Scarlett Solo gen 3 almost never works with it because there is 'not enough power for this accessory'. Tantalisingly, it has worked once or twice. I don't suppose you have a solution for this???

I FIGURED IT OUT!!! If you bought your Mac pre-owned with an old OS that is not compatible with the new GarageBand version, and you do not have garageband associated with your previous purchases, you’re screwed, right? WRONG! I found a workaround.! If you know someone who has a newer Mac or at least one with GarageBand installed, set up a user profile and sign in on their machine with your Apple ID. The newer Mac will most likely have GarageBand already installed, so delete it. Then reinstall it under your appleID. That’s it! Your old Mac will now have GarageBand associated with your Apple ID, and it will now download a previous version. I just now did it, and it WORKS!!!
