As a very mature student i’ve noticed my brain no longer sucks up information like a sponge, actually more like a limp flannel. I’ve been introduced to this channel and it’s brilliant. This video was so helpful! I kept getting my expression the wrong way round, so 1n+3 rather than 3n+1. Such a stupid mistake but I definitely won’t be making it again

Hi Maths Tutor. Brilliant video as always. I had a quick question - if it asks me for the sum of the first hundred terms of a sequence that is 3n plus 4 how would i go about that?

you would use the formula: S = (n/2) {2a + (n − 1) d}, where n is the number of terms you want to add up to, a is the first term, and d is the difference between the terms. In this case, a = 7, n = 100, and d = 4, so S = (100/2)*{2*7 + (100 - 1)*4} = 50*(14 + 99*4) = 50*(14+396) = 50*410 = 20500

what if n starts at 0 would that not mean for the first example you did it would become 3n+4 instead of 3n+1 as 0 can also be defined as n, really the question should be more specific
