I’ll never forget seeing “ The Last Jedi “ in theaters and I went by myself . I remember sitting there and was thinking “ what’s happening “ “Is there a hidden message “ “ is it my fault for being here and being a starwars fans “ . I left the movie more confused about what I just watched rather than trying to recap the whole movie because I was lucky enough to see another starwars film in theatre’s. Since I was a kid , I’ve seen every film since ep 1 going forward . Leaving the theater after watching the last Jedi was a very different experience. Weeks later I found out I wasn’t the only one that felt this way and you’re right , it divided the fan base and all the fans that grew up loving starwars, had starwars themed birthday parties, and collected all The merch and video games , are called bigots now for not liking modern audience starwars

I'm glad to see someone who actually has a nuanced perspective on Disney Star wars, and doesn't just say: "DISNEY KILLED STAR WARS", but also doesn't say: "DISNEY STAR WARS IS THE BEST THING EVER".

Force Awakens will probably always be my favorite movie under the Disney banner solely because Force Awakens was the first Star Wars movie I got to see in theaters. You can’t beat that feeling

Abrams has a track record of making shows that set really compelling mysteries, then leaving before he has to actually answer them. But take away the New Hope plot structure, and what was the story? What was Rey's Story in the Force Awakens? What character driven decisions does she make that affect the story?

Really appreciate this take. Star wars as a franchise, was never free of poor material before disney took over, but the takeover has certainly took its fans from being ardent/passionate to apathetic.

Speaking of The Bad Batch, you completely misunderstood the show! This group was introduced to us as mercenaries who accepted dangerous missions. That's how Cody introduced them to us. So it’s perfectly normal that we see them accepting missions in their series! And through their missions, The Bad Batch see how different people adapt to the arrival of the Empire! It's just you who misunderstood the series! We even see them thinking about their future on the series!

What tips it over the edge into Very Bad territory for me is the fact that this company is supposed to be some of the best storytellers in the world, with the most resources, and they’re handling the biggest IP in the world. I honnestly love Solo and it is my favorite of the disney movies. It honestly does all i wan't a star wars movie to do. Have a fun adventure with entertaining characters. My favorite part of star wars is all the underworld stuff and this movie gave me what I wanted. I can understand why people don't like it as much as i do but after going over every movie it was my favorite.

Since you didn't bring it up, I want to talk about the high republic. I've only read a few books from the era but I really enjoyed them. The impact of the era is silent but still impactful. It shows the fandom that Disney was not only willing to branch out away from the films, but that they could make their own unique era. While the sub-fanbase for the era is rather niche than the TV shows. With the High Republic being shown in Jedi Survivor and the Acolyte show coming soon, I could see more people becoming huge fans of the High Republic soon.

As ever great to hear your takes even if I don't agree they are well presented, I even find the things you do like in the sequels infectious and it makes me want to watch them again.

I personally gave it a 7.5/10, I haven't seen resistance so that probably helps massively.

Disney has a 50% sucess rate. The problem is the ones they fail (sequels, kenobi, bobba) are way more crucial to fans than the ones they got right (Rogue one, andor, mando)

Interesting analysis. I also think one thing I'll give attention to is some of the books and comics, some of which have honestly been pretty good. I'm currently reading Shadow of the Sith, and that book does a good bit to elaborate on elements from the sequels, in particular Rise of Skywalker, and I suggest checking it out. It doesn't fix the issues and decisions made with the movies, but it does try to remedy them. Rise of Kylo Ren also does a lot of heavy lifting and goes into the relationship between Luke and Ben that quite honestly should've been in the sequels. The new Thrawn books are also great, unsurprising given Timothy Zahn came back to read them. I don't have any real interest in the High Republic, but I actually think it's a cool idea to have a sort of subseries focused on a particular era. Ultimately though, Disney's reign to me has been a mixed bag. The sequels left a lot of people disappointed, and the shows tend to be hit and miss. That said, it's not impossible to fix things. Yeah, there's a lot that's a mess, but this isn't a DCEU situation where the best solution is to hit the reset button. I know there are many people who would find that ideal, but in the case of Star Wars, I honestly think that'll just create more problems in the long run. It's better to find a way to fix what you have, and pave a new path forward.

It is incredibly disappointing that The Bad Batch is not getting more seasons. As we saw with TCW and Rebels, these animated shows usually don't get good UNTIL the 3rd season. TBB in my opinion, has been more consistently good in its first two seasons than TCW and Rebels were in their first two seasons, and I think if we got 4 or 5 seasons it could be truly great.

I'm overall really happy for this decade and the biggest problem that I have come from the Disney corporation for imposing deadlines, especially TROS which if it had been better executed the entirety of the Dinsey era would be looked in better eyes. I also will be forever grateful for Andor and the Jedi videogames saga. Really excited for the third.

Force awakens should have been a solid launch to an amazing trilogy. Instead, it’s a disappointing reminder of lost potential. The biggest issue with Rebels is that it’s a kids show. As a middle aged dude, I can only watch highlights of the best parts. Can’t watch a full episode cause it’s for kids. Season 3 of Mando was so disappointing because they setup a fantastic character arc for Dinn. Instead, they completely backtracked and it felt like a cartoon. Andor is clearly 10/10 and best thing since original trilogy, at least for older fans.

It's refreshing to hear the perspective of someone who genuinely enjoyed the sequels to a significant extent, especially since I've mostly encountered negative feedback about them. While I may not share the same enthusiasm for the sequel trilogy, I can appreciate the sentiments and rationale behind your viewpoint. Personally, I don't have much interest in anything related to or associated with the sequel trilogy, and I hope that Star Wars can move beyond it, choosing to explore new and uncharted time periods like the High Republic.

My problem with Disney Star Wars is that it feels like I am eating garbage, then, every few years, I get handed the most pristine platter of food and I think “oh my god, they finally learned how to properly cook” and I ask for another plate and they hand me garbage again.

I just wish you could see how most us fans see Disney Starwars, we ALL wanted to love the SEQUEL TRILOGY!!! Understand that guys!! those of us you call the "Fandom Menace" we never set out hating on the sequels movies! WHY do you even think TFA was so well received, but you have to also understand that a HUGE part of WHY that movie was so well received and loved in the beginning was because many of us fans had the expectation something of substance was going to be done with the Legacy Characters and they would be handled properly. We expected there would be some level of *World Building* and to be given a understanding and insight into whats happened with the older characters, and the Galaxy in general over all those years. The Mandalorian was purely a breath of fresh air for those of us fans who had literally checked out after TLJ and TROS, and so when Luke showed up in all his glory at the end of Season 2 Mando, this took so many of us older fans back to much happier times; all they could have done was give Jon Favreau his own spin-off, focusing on Luke & Grogu's adventures just for a while, coming off of when he rescued Grogu at the end of Mando Season 2. JEDI ACADEMY, and just let us hang out with this young Luke and his first student Grogu for alittle bit. don't even hint at anything that will be to come, no showing Ben turn up at the Academy, we all know the FAUILURE will happen down the line, but just give us some insight into Luke his first early time as a actual teacher of the force himself; this is what so many fans had dreamed of from his tales in the EU. But nope, Disney just had to get Grogu back to Din ASAP, and when you say it almost felt like Disney forced Favreau to do this, dude! That is literally what happened!! Don't believe me!? Just wait and see in a few more years, once Kathleen Kennedy has left Lucasfilm, i'll bet you any money Jon Favreau will reveal this Fact. Adam Driver has eventually spilled the beans on his character Kylo, was ALWAYS originally meant to go full on DARKSIDE, and descend further and further into the Dark throughout the Sequel Trilogy. These actors, they have to wait some years until there's no risk to their careers, and a certain movie is done and the studio has moved completely on. Anyway, lastly i'm gonna give you ALL here a hard pill to swallow but i gotta tell it as i see it, if you think im wrong on this one please tell me and give me your argument but i dont think i am. Okay so i believe DEEP DOWN, on a subconscious level, ALL you Sequels fans (especially the younger ones) you defend these movies because deep down you badly feel away, at the fact all us Fans on the other side hate the Sequels. You have been given something you've gotten into for the first time, that you can say is YOURS, that represents YOUR *Generation* and now others, older generations, who have their *Star Wars* are hating on your stuff; this is hurtful, because you want to show this is YOUR STARWARS!! That is for your generation, and have it become part of this whole Fandom as a whole. But because it's widely rejected and hated even, you cannot take this, and so you defend it to the last. That's what all this is really about. Some of you can see the disjoint, the inconsistencies, how it even undoes things from the OT how that all concluded. Most of you (i suspect) cant and Wont see those things, you defiantly love it regardless because ITS YOURS and NOTHING is going to take that away from you!! It's part of growing up i guess, you have things that are made in your time, of your specific generation, that's how they were made and they were made for YOU so this is it. We are ALWAYS gonna be divided on this one i'm afraid. All i can say is i just really wish Disney had not made Luke and his Jedi School ALL about FAILURE. Not made him walk into ben's hutt and contemplate killing him, but handled that whole backstory differently and made it where Luke actively senses who and what is behind corrupting his nephew, poisoning his mind, and playing heavily on his insecurities and just angst. And then that Luke discovers the person responsible - SNOKE!!! and Luke goes after him, but fails to defeat him. Now IF they had done that, and the sequels become about Luke joining with the new, younger generations of heroes, Finn & Rey, and he's actually ALLOWED TO TRAIN them!! And then they all work together to eventually take down Snoke, and ofcourse then make the focus more of Rey and Finn defeating him. Then this Fandom would not be *Divided* the way it is. Nobody is threatened by a female character kicking ass, and at the sametime i ask this, is it even "regressive" to have Luke "train" Rey?? And don't tell me he did because that what we got in TLJ was NOT "training". This is all about being consistent to what came before, and respecting your characters. IF you're the kind of Fan who thinks being Subversive and Deconstructing tropes that have always run through starwars is NEW and Original, then you don't understand *Star Wars*. And if all you want is for STAR WARS to be as DIFFERENT as possible to where it out right undoes, contradicts and subverts EVERYTHING in the Saga that came before, and the very *Lore* that George Lucas established; then i'm sorry but you also don't know *Star Wars*. There are ways to inject NEW IDEAS and Elements while still staying faithful to *Star Wars*. One e.g. is Filoni creating the Purgill and them being able to natural hyperspace travel from even different Galaxies; that in of itself is a wholely NEW and very Original idea that's never really been fully explored in star wars lore before. It also expands the lore alot and it doesn't contradict anything. Even the idea of the Nightsisters, force users different to the Jedi & Sith, they may not be everyone's cup of tea, yet they're still new ideas that add to the lore.

a random thing rebels did that permanently impacted star wars lore that i rly dislike: accelerated aging of clones continuing into adulthood and into old age so they die of old age relatively quickly, I feel it really limits the potential of having clone characters in the OT era and beyond and basically adds an unnecessary time limit for when in the time like you can explore certain characters. It also doesn't really make sense as it implies that if the clone wars dragged on for a few more years or decades, the clones would really quickly be past their prime, but the way it limits characters is the biggest problem.

Pretty good vid overall and while I would personally knock obi wan down a point and bad batch maybe up a point, everything else seemed pretty spot on for how I feel about Disney Star Wars.

Your video has a very fascinating viewpoint and I appreciate it. But I honestly think that Rogue one had better story and character development than The Force Awakens. I also think it, along with Andor, are the only projects from Disney Star Wars that had something to say (and somewhat of an artists mark) as opposed to the hollow feeling corporate message of the other Disney Star Wars projects

Much work went into this great job! Now that I think of it really, not much films or anything today has a lot of staying power be it movies, games or music, like what film in the last 10 years gets talk about like Star Wars in 1977 gets talk about still to this day, or what video game gets talked about like Zelda Oot still gets talked about, sure you'll get big marvel hits here and there, and you'll get a game like God of War ragnarok and they are big hits when they come out, but it feels people move on to the next big thing much faster then ever before and seem to just move on and not get talked about as much as they used to, something I've been noticing for awhile, so I wonder if 10 years from now will Zelda tears of the kingdom still be talked about like Zelda Oot still gets talked about? Same thing I think can apply to every piece of entertainment. As for the sequel trilogy will it get the fan support 10 years from now it will be very interesting to see, I believe it will but will the hate go away? Hard to say the hate for the prequels though less is still there, the worst thing to do though is to cater to what fans want.

The Blunder of Boba Fett was the building of a coffin. Obi-Wan’s Catastrophe was the final nail in that proverbial coffin. And S3 of The Mad Delirium was the dirt dumped on that coffin. Honestly, Mando S3 was so terrible that I’ve not yet (and may never) finish it.

I think you might appreciate this bit of info I know alot of my close and wider family members and I didn't watch Solo or Andor until much later was mainly because we all disliked TLJ and Kenobi so much. It probably suggests that many others felt this way too because of the bad box office for Solo and the initial viewing figures for Andor.

I wish someone kept track of exactly how many times the "true fans" declared Star Wars "dead"and KK "fired" over these past ten years, lol.

I am 26 and never watched Star Wars like at all. But 2 weeks ago I started with a new hope and now I’ve watched all their live action media. Am I a Star Wars fan? I’d say so. Would most Star Wars fans consider me a fan? Probably not. That being said here’s my opinion. OT is amazing. Way better than I possibly could have expected. Even knowing most of the plot it was still very enjoyable. PT is my favorite trilogy. Is it better than ot? Nah but it is gorgeous. Absolutely stunning visually, fight choreography was so much better and revenge of the sith is my #1 movie out of the 11 live action films. Now the sequel trilogy? Visually stunning, effects were top tier, sound and score were great, characters could have been dished out better but the characters themselves were not bad. But the story? Terrible. A kid could have done better. What I disliked the most was that TFA takes place after all the interesting stuff already happened. Did the story have to revolve around Luke? No but I’d like to at least be told his story along with han and leia, I was hoping to see more of their actual story. We went from Rotj to Luke already restarted the Jedi order… and had it burned down, han and leia had a kid, Luke and Mara had a whole relationship we NEVER SAW. The republic made a come back andddd it lasted for 10 years. Empire is gone but 10 years later now empire is back??? But it’s not the empire it’s “the first order” 😉 Hans son gets trained in Jedi arts and ends up being a sith apprentice ? Luke didn’t even try to fix things bro just ran away… Han leaves leia. Leia has been doing the exact same thing her ENTIRE life. Except for when she trained as a JEDI. There’s more but all of this is what we would have loved to see. But nah they said fuck showing actual sequels let’s reboot it and claim that everything that is unbelievably stupid happened off screen. And that’s why I think the sequels suck. Mando? 10/10 I love it. Highly recommend. Bobf? Ehh. Obi wan? Very nice. Could’ve been better but it’s the best Disney could do lol. Andor? Amazing. Very good. Would recommend. Ahsoka? Yes The Gold Man, Favreau was forced by KK to put Grogu back which caused a lot of tension between the two and season 3 of the Mandalorian was being tampered by KK so much Favreau almost quit.

I am going to disagree with the masses and say that overall the Disney era of Star Wars has been pretty good. I think it has been just as good as when George Lucas had full control. There have been lots of excellent things to come from it like Andor, The Mandalorian, Rebels, The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and Tales of the Jedi. There has been some bad stuff as well in Solo, Resistance, Book of Boba Fett, but besides those three I have positive feelings for every other Disney Star Wars product. Some might be middle of the pack and just barely like, but still pretty good. I give it like a 7.5 overall and while not great, I probably give the George Lucas era a 7.1 based of my same calculations.

It's insane to think about how far we've come since the contract was signed, and I only get more and more exhausted every time someone says things that're only gonna be repeated for years to come. Me personally, I simply love everything Star Wars, even if the project I'm consuming is one I would consider bad. But I understand that just saying that is enough for the fandom to consider me a criminal. But those are also the same people who never wash their hands after using the bathroom. Despite all the flaws that Disney Star Wars has, I still really like a lot of what we were given. I still remember all the emotions I felt while watching Rise of Skywalker opening weekend and having the most satisfied feeling I felt in a long time, and even almost 4 years later I still love that movie regardless of all the problems it has. It's generally heartbreaking seeing what the fandom has turned into now. It's impossible to go anywhere without someone scolding you for liking x because of y. It's just exhausting to be a Star Wars fan, and even calling myself a Star Wars fan fills me with shame nowadays.

As a black geek fan since 1979.... that people LOVE The Last Jedi inspite of what it did to Finn and John Boyega is why I barely even want to be a Star Wars fan anymore. Star Wars was never this blatant about disregarding characters of color... outside of their portrayal of Lando in SOLO. Any love close to what they did to Finn will always get a thumbs down and the person saying it kept at arms length. :/ I'm glad you spared a moment at all tho for how Finn was treated... but in Rise of Skywalker they at least tried to give him something to actively do.

Fantastically put together. Honestly, I kind of expect some things to hit great and others to not when we get this much content. We can look back on star wars before disney and find much of the same. Some books great some books miss. Some great games some not so great games. Some episodes of their cartoon amazing and then some less than stellar episodes. Marvel is still the same way. People are down on Marvel because they feel a lack of focus since thanos, but if we look at everything that came after thanos some are good and hit well others dont.

Yeah the issue for Andor's low numbers is actually similar to the reason for Solo's low numbers, but worse. Solo came after the Last Jedi, which divided the fanbase and thus made people not very excited, as well as the word of mouth on it not being very good. Andor came out after the Obi-Wan show, and was about a character no-one cared about in the first place as a character in Rogue One, and so only is as loved as it is due to word of mouth encouraging people to watch it since people who review star wars for money decided they wanted to get their check in and were pleasantly surprised.

I hate that Kathleen Kennedy has become a new scapegoat for everything certain fans hate about modern Star Wars.

The biggest missed opportunity that disney made that it still can do is a luke show. If we got a 5-7 season show following the og trilogie and cover the 15 years between return of the jedi and the fall of Ben solo and show how the characters ended up they did in the sequals it could be so good and could do a similar thing that the clone wars did to the prequels

Star Wars Canon died with the purchase of Star Wars by Disney. Especially the expanded universe.

Disney held something so wonderful and precious in it's hands. How they managed to dismantle, what the og trilogy managed to build, will be discussed for a long long time by fans and industry insiders.

I personally love rouge one because it has a interesting story it also doesn’t give much character development but I sort of like that because it sort of shows that even those they are strangers to echothere they don’t have time to talk if they want to save the rebels

I’d put Battlefront’s impact at a 4. The lack of a campaign in the first game and bare bones gameplay starting at 60$, loot boxes, a lackluster campaign and just overall sliminess from EA for battlefront two, it was kind of hard to not be a little more upset.

Its been ten years and only now are they doing something good with it.

Except for the Mandalorian, Andor and Rogue One the rest is a shame for the Star Wars Universe. High expectations with Obi Wan proved to be a huge frustration.

Yea we didn’t “need” it, and it’s not really an important movie that ties into anything larger, but It’s a fun and cool Star Wars movie, that doesn’t leave me scratching my head or pulling out my hair like with some of the sequel movies. I enjoyed Solo, visually it was great, had amazing action, the humour in it was also pretty good, and it told a simple yet effective story. Easily imo at least an 8/10

Also Rouge One is the one project in the entire Starwars saga that can be a Originals Trilogy prequel or a Prequel Trilogy sequel. It fits with both eras pretty well.

It would be SO COOL if we got like a 45-60 minute special once or twice a year, not connected to the main storyline. Kind of like Werewolf by Night.

I loved the force awakens when it came out, and looking at it as a standalone movie I can still find enjoyable. But just knowing that every plot point and set up in that movie had zero direction or plan, and it was just Abrams creating mystery for the sake of mystery, Just makes it so much harder to enjoy.

It would be interesting if you did the same video format, but with the pre disney era movies shows and Games

The people who love Luke’s portrayal don’t understand the reason why we hate it. The problem is that RJ got Luke completely wrong. We’re expected to believe that after episodes 4-6 Luke learned absolutely from the failures of his predecessors. Luke rebuilds the Jedi order and instills his students with the same flawed dogmatic teachings that brought about the fall of the Republic, the Jedi and Anakin. All this, even though it was dogmatic masters who urged Luke to act against his beliefs and instincts. In TLJ Luke rants about these flawed teachings, making fans think “oh, wow he’s so right!” missing the fact that 1: we’re retreading grounds already explored in the prequels and 2: it was up to LUKE to correct them. RJ portrayed Luke to be an idiot incapable of learning from mistakes. He literally had to be told you could learn from failures. Completely maddening.

"seriously flawed" is all you needed to say about the disney era of star wars. Andor was the only really excellent thing to come out of all of it.

I actually don’t mind the sequels nearly as much as others. I actually think they’re pretty cool. If you watch all the vids explaining why they’re bad it kind of takes the fun out of it. Glad to see someone finally acknowledge TFA was pretty good. I am more of a visual guy. And the animations and visuals were really good in the sequels. Say what you want comment section, but I like all of Star Wars. And this is coming from a guy who grew up with the Prequels. So don’t think I’m like 8 years old. I understand why lots of people think the sequels are bad. But I personally kind of like them.

I agree with the Star Wars Ant-Sequel Trilogy video essay. The Last Jedi acted like it was moving beyond something but was just a rehash of Return of the Jedi.

You lost me when you said you were "excited about the Rey movie"!!?? Really!! I was the guy in the theater giving both fingers to the screen yelling "F_ck you Rey"!!!!😈
