The British and Irish Lions announced today that Ireland coach Andy Farrell will be their head coach for the 2025 tour to Australia.
Payno headed down to Howden HQ to get the thoughts and reactions to today's news from Lions royalty.

@@pauldavies7251 Just a joke 🙂. I went on tour with the Lions in 2013. Best 4 weeks ever. Brilliant craic with all the fans. I did learn though that the travelling Welsh fans really did think that Lions teams should always be 2/3rds Welsh at a.minimum !

I’d be very happy to see Andy Farrell pick Owen Farrell as No.10 and the two of them enjoy a tournament together! Should be a pretty special tour 🙌🏼

Whenever Sir Ian McGeechan talks it gives me goosebumps and gets me fired for the lions. I cant imagine what it would have been like for a player to have him as your lions coach. I think big Faz will have the same effect. 😁

Faz of course was the obvious choice for the Lions' Head Coach, interested to see who he selects for the rest of the coaching team. My personal pick for Captain would be Jac Morgan. Thank you for the mini-tribute to JPR.

Many people will push for a captain of their nationality. It would be interesting to find out who a Bok, Kiwi, or Frenchman would most fear as a BIR captain!

@@adamevans9644 he’s easily in contention, a straight shoot out between him and Russell and maybe smith and ford. But we’ll see where they are in 18 months but right now it’s between him and Russell. But Owen is an actual captain

Geech talking about JPR, you can see how much he meant to him. Great choice for coach and I'm pretty sure even us Welsh would agree. He has experience from two previous tours, knows what it will take to win and that there will be hard and unpopular choices to make. All the players know that they now have 12 months to put their hands up, it's going to be epic.

I can’t see The Lions not doing a 3-0 drumming on this trip with Andy at the Helm.. Let me be arrogant and predict a winning margin of no less than 20 points per game.. I’m a Saffa and a huge Springbok supporter.. But I do rate Andy Farrell and I know he will not give U a free run.. Good luck to U Aussies!!!!

I would pick Owen Farrell as captain, this will be his fourth tour with the lions so knows what it's all about. Also he is well respected through out world rugby as a great leader on and off the pitch. This will be controversial among others.

You obviously know more than the Saracen coach and English coach and other players/ coaches throughout the world

All of those captains above have or had great leaders around them when they were captains of their national side and lions.Where as Owen has had mostly mediocre players at national level but still seems to get the best out of them, Even some of the greatest lions captains (Johnson Mcbride) have said being a captain was easy because of the leaders they had around them. That's my opinion and I am sticking to it. I will be in Australia to see a complete white wash. @@mcsnapples

Definitely deserves the job, but I would have given it to Borthwick given that Australia wouldn’t get close to beating and of the teams that make up the Lions, let alone the combined force. It’s going to be tough to hype this one up.

The success of this upcoming tour very much depends on whether or not Australia can get their act together. If they do not improve drastically from their last world cup foray then the tour will be a non event. I hope not.

Farrell also has an 81% win rate with Ireland I actually can't remember the last time the others won a game that wasn't against each other or Italy fiji ect
