An Evening With Harry Belafonte, an hour long, PBS-TV live-to-tape interview program provided a rare look inside the life and times of the legendary Harry Belafonte. Taped on November 2, 2000 at The Art Institute of Chicago, entertainer and humanitarian Harry Belafonte was interviewed by his friend and fellow actor/humanitarian, Danny Glover. Mr. Belafonte has appeared in countless performances and has been honored throughout his life with many awards. Seldom, if ever, had he been interviewed about his life story prior to this An Evening With... event.

I have always called this man my mentor in life. Everyone that I introduce him to says that he was so wise. It's so valuable that he is documented in these videos. I have every album, seen him in concert maybe 10-15 times, but I saw him in lecture form one time and that meant more than any of his entertaining.

To have fought the good fight, to have walked amidst the noise and haste, to have done no harm and left things better than he found them, this is a man. This is a legendary hero. This is life at its simplest terms…profound.

When I heard Harry Belafonte died, I started to look to find more information about him. I found this interview that shows what a great human being he was, he fought for the blacks around the world, not only in the USA, the most mistreated people in the planet. Harry is a great example for all humanity, sadly now days rich blacks are indiferent to the suffering and struggles of their own people. They have private jets, lavish hauses, extravagant life stiles and very few help to others, their ego is too big to see reality. Harry Belmonte gave his all for the colour people. I am sure you are in the kingdom of God. RIP

What a wonderful man Harry Belafonte is, never thinking of himself but always thinking of other people. This interview with him was very touching. I myself would have loved being able to meet him in person to thank him for all the work he has done also, the songs he sings with such strong feelings. Thank you Mr Harry Belafonte. xx

Oh, how we will miss Harry Belafonte sharing the earth with us, as of today, the day he died. As a Berner, I am steeped in the stories and lives of the disenfranchised, immigrants, minorities and those with "different lives." These are my people as I was "different" too. Music is central to my family and my heart, as its universal strains can reach us all. I loved both Belafonte and Glover (see Grand Canyon.) A common theme in our families has been the military, as for decades it was, sometimes, the only way to a free education. Belafonte got his education by reading the references in a Dubois book - Amazing. Tickets to a play at the American Negro Theater in Harlem in a Library Basement opened Belafonte's eyes, his yearning for talent and "To show life as it should be." Let's love each other today, for Harry.
