Just for fun and for Christmas, something a little different as Kevin Hicks tells the story of Scrooge, a steely skinflint of a character from Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Discover a little about the history of the much loved author Charles Dickens and enjoy Kevin’s own telling of this festive tale, A Christmas Carol.
Published on 19 December 1843, the first edition of 6,000 copies had already sold out by Christmas Eve.

One of my favorites. I watch Patrick Stewart's version on Christmas Day every year. I do have to admit that the book is sitting on my "to be read" shelf, though. Something to think about in the story is the meaning of 'humbug'. Nowadays we often think of it being a synonym for nonsense, but it was actually a word to describe deception. Scrooge had come to genuinely believe that everyone was out for themselves and he saw people being terrible to each other all year long and, when they were kind to others during Christmas time, they were deceiving themselves that they were actually good and kind people. But the change wrought in Scrooge by the Ghosts' visit is that he actually became a good and kind man and, even though many people laughed at the change in him, he little heeded them. His own heart laughed and that was quite enough for him.

you have the gift of storytelling, Kevin. You deserve a history program on TV: you’re much better at presenting than Tony Robinso and are more qualified than he was when he started presenting!, it’s great that you included scenes in the Christmas Present part that are always ignored by adaptations yet go a long way to help show Scrooge was oblivious about what others everywhere feel and act regarding Christmas

I'll never forget watching Scrooge with my family on Christmas Eve. when we were small & it was late at night. the ending where the last spirit is revealed as death - mum & dad covered our eyes so we wouldn't see the skull. same thing happened at the cinema back in the 70's when the trailer for Alien came on & mum covered my eyes. Lost my 🌹mum🌹 to heart failure in February & it's reassuring to remember that far back into my childhood

Over the years, here in ever so much better modern US, I have had many jobs which either did not give Christmas off or gave Christmas off with no pay (mostly because they were closing for Christmas). I would tell my coworkers, "Even Scrooge gave Bob Cratchit Christmas Day off with pay." It was quite the damning indictment of the stinginess of our employers if I do say so myself.

Love the fancy dress, must say this video is by far a favorite above other favorites. I enjoy Charles Dickens too, what I find a bit strange about him is this, he didn't treat his own family very kindly. Thanks Kevin, Christmas is what Christmas is, but never a humbug. Made my Day , Merry Xmas ! The 'Scrooge' Story seems especially poignant this Year in England. We all need to take a bit extra Care of each Other this Winter. What is always interesting (and very encouraging) is little brings Out the best in Folk anywhere than 'Sharing the load' and it's those most used to lifting who often seem most willing to! Good Will is a very Powerful Force.

Yo, you have told me the best version of the story I’ve ever heard. Never did I realize that Scrooge lives in Jacob Marley‘s house. And I never understood the thing with the chains you’re the first person to bring that to my understanding so it makes much more sense as to why he does such a roundabout and becomes so giving in the end? How did I always missed that part? I love how you told the story I’m gonna show my son this next Christmas. Wow this is probably one of my favorites.🎉🎉❤

Merry Christmas Kevin. Joyeux Noël, y'all as they say in Southern France. A Christmas Carol is the age old story of redemption. Too many people remember the miser Scrooge and not the redeemed Scrooge. The Muppet Christmas Carol is the version closest to the book. You need to watch the backgrounds in the movie for the many tongue in cheek jokes. My favorite is near the end. The establishment "Mickwhites" is behind Sir Michael Caine, who played Scrooge. He was born Maurice Micklewhite.

I've been called a Scrooge by many people, I don't enjoy much of the revelry that a modern Christmas brings because I think it brings a lot of stress and heartache, too. I think it's kept me from enjoying the smaller, more integral parts of the season. I haven't heard the story or read along with the actual book before. Very nicely done Kevin. Loved it a lot. No Christmas goes by where I wish I was a child again and hearing and watching the A Christmas Carol.

✨🎄✨Thank you for a wonderful telling of __A Christmas Carol__ by Charles Dickens. I loved the dark, and shadowy atmosphere and your spooky ghosts. The story frightened me as a child. We do own a copy of the book, and I read it to my son when he was young. He then read it on his own. But your telling, by far, is one of the most entertaining. So I say, a Merry Christmas to us all. God bless us everyone.
