Hey Mark! It was a B25 Mitchel that crashed into the Empire State Building.The accident killed fourteen people (three crewmen and eleven people in the building), and an estimated twenty-four others were injured. July 28th 1945 due to heavy fog.

The 9/11 memorial does stir alot of emotion especially if you lived through it. I dont know if younger people who weren't born at the time can fully appreciate the impact that 9/11 had on the USA. It is an incredibly beautiful monument and something every American should see at some point in their lives. Thank you for taking us along on your trip to the Big Apple. Enjoyed watching.

Hey Shoestring is there anything honoring all of the search and rescue k-9's that gave their lives in the aftermath, by chance? One of my brother ironworkers was a volunteer at ground zero. And he told me that,as long as he lives he'll never forget the work that the K-9's put in there and how many he saw and helped pull out of the debris lifeless and how that was THE only thing that stopped their efforts to locate victims. He's not the only one who will never forget! God bless 🇺🇲! PS, We love you too,Ole beauty

I'm from the WI/IL Stateline. I've been up in the World Trade Center One. It is one hell of an experience to be up there at the top and doing the tour. You get up there and you can't help to think about the 2 towers that fell and you're up there seeing how high it is and how far those buildings fell full of people. It's crazy. You have to remind yourself that the tower is built to survive anything now so it helps keep you calm knowing that.

ON KZfaq, there are reports and videos of some of the people that HAD to jump as it wasn't actually a choice... There are also videos that show both planes as they entered the buildings and the damages they created... It is quite detailed !!! You can see WHY the buildings collapsed... Also, there are videos of the victims calling their relatives before the towers came down.... Though that may take a box of tissues to listen too 😢 Let us NOT FORGET the Fire and Rescue HERO's that also perished trying to help the victims 😢 💔

Some Niagara facts I know. Counting both falls, we only see about a quarter of the outflow of the Niagara River because the remainder is diverted through underground channels to hydroelectric power plants downstream. You forgot that the river flows into Lake Ontario downstream, so we're seeing water from 4 of the 5 Great Lakes. It was a joy watching you really ride again in this video. Stay safe!

Another fact; the souvenir store features interesting stories and newspaper reprints of all the people that went over the falls over the years. (At least it did when I was there in `76.) Before there were adequate railings, an elderly lady had slipped and went right over but miraculously survived without injury. It was her birthday (90?) so there was much celebration and champagne that night.
@boobtubeakatv1296

Only about half the left over water flows through the hydroelectric tubes, the rest is diverted to the shipping locks a little ways west of the falls... Also, the falls are REALLY interesting in the dead of Winter and the best views are from the Canadian side... Bridal Falls is off of three sisters island and there is a walkway that takes you down the falls... Rebuilt every spring and dismantled in the autumn... The maid of the mist boats are available from both side of the border... Also interesting is the Large whirlpool a little ways downstream of the falls before it flows into Lake Ontario... You can take a ride on an air boat into that area... It was $50 last time I was there in 2011... Fun Ride worthy of it...

They say that in the early days of the falls, thousands of years ago, the river carried 10 times the amount of water that it does today. If today only 1/4 of the water makes it to the falls, imagine what it looked like when the falls itself was further downstream where it is much narrower and had 40 times the water flow that we see today. Unimaginable. No wonder the falls crept upstream so quickly over the eons.

Another great video. I have to admit I was worried about you as I'm sure many others were, but we're glad you're back to your usual cantankerous self again. You are the picture of health! It was interesting how you described the feelings you get when visiting the original site of the World Trade Towers. I'd imagine it's a combination of feelings as you said; sobering and sad but also "good people helping good people". I like that. As people were fleeing from the buildings, the fire fighters, the police and other first-responders were racing into the building. This is inspirational and makes me feel proud to be an American. "You can feel it in the air." Thank you, Shoestring from the Boston area!

What a great video Brother. I know that feeling you were trying to explain, while at the WTC site. There's something different when you are there and you become aware. I haven't been back to that place since. Another thing that I wanted to commend you on is your knowledge. It's always great to watch your videos because you continuously educate us with information that you don't necessarily hear from the main stream. Greatly appreciated my friend. Next, I wanted to point out that while you were shooting, there was a moment that you caught which was truly inciteful on how much stress that takes place on a freight train that most people never consider. Around 31:40 through 32:00 you caught the coupler action. Watching the orbital movement of the AAR type F coupler on the gondola was truly impressive. Most people understand the basic concepts of knuckle couplers. However this coupler is unique, do to it's engineering design, of having a single vertical retaining pin that is located at the rear of the coupler yoke where it attaches to the drawbar. This allows that specific coupler to adjust it's grip angle while sustaining the shank butt alignment shoulders assist in keeping the couplers centered and cars aligned under heavy buffing actions and slack run-in. This can be seen in your video within the time set that I called out. A person needs to remember, the coupler handles the stress of the tractive effort from the locomotives and it also handles the tensile stress of dragging all of the cars tied on to it from the rear. Moreover, very few people have ever recorded this taking place. You can literally watch the realignment of the coupler in concert with the slack action happening all at once as the cars navigate the cross-over. Truly impressive if a person is a train geek like me. It's exciting to see that you are meeting up with folks that recognize you and are willing to help you along the way. Stay safe brother.

If my teachers in school could explain things so well I would have listened better and learned more. I no longer call them "locomotives". Like Shoestring, I call them DPU's.
@EH-nw6bu
@EH-nw6bu Жыл бұрын
@@alycatpublishing1164 I absolutely understand your point. You are correct in calling a locomotive a DPU when the locomotive is mid position or trailing position within the consist. A locomotive that is being used in the capacity as a DPU has to fulfill the following requirements. First, any locomotive that is being used as a DPU is going to be located somewhere in the middle or in the rear of the consist. This locomotive will be running, (under power). Any locomotive that is in a DPU status, is physically switched in the cab therefore shifting control of that powered unit to the engineers controls in the lead unit. Therefore, if a person was to gain access to a DPU, they would have to know how to switch the controls from the lead unit before the could take control or affect power and air brake settings. Second, the locomotive will most often be unmanned and have access to the cabin secured by the use of a door lock. Our friend Shoestring has acquired a master key therefore he can gain entry. However, all other controls, such as horn, bell, lights and the environmental controls, (think HVAC) can be used. Anyone who has access to the cabin would also has the ability to turn on the windshield wipers and have access to the utility systems, such as the bathroom. So let's describe the various locations and descriptions of a locomotive or DPU. Any locomotives tied to the front of the consist can also be referred to as lead power, lead locomotive or head end power. Any locomotive that is tied to the rear of the consist, can also be referred to as rear or trailing power. Any locomotive that is tied within the consist, usually around the middle is referred to as a mid-DPU or just plain ol' DPU. So, using various descriptions based on location and applications common to the industry language is very acceptable. Because the video does not indicate that there is a DPU within the consist, I simply did not include it in my description. However the functionality of the coupler is paramount to ensuring that the consist stays intact even when an accident occurs.

His designs are very distinctive, and his buildings have a beautiful cathedral-like quality. Near me is Calatrava's Quadracci Pavilion at the Milwaukee Art Museum; I love to go there.

You’re so right about the WTC site. You can just feel it in the air…almost a nauseating feeling.

Outstanding video Shoestring! That bandaid over the mic on your phone totally worked to quiet the wind.👍Thx for the guided tour of Niagara Falls & the Trade Center. I'll probably never get there myself, so it was nice to see it here. Continued Happy Travels to you! 🚂

I don't know how difficult it would be for you to visit the old Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield but that is where they filmed Shawshank Redemption. It's open 11 to 4 but they want $25 to go in. Most impressive from outside anyway. It's off St Rt 13 north side of town.

7:01 WTC is 1776’ tall. There’s quite a few symbolic things like that designed into it. Really cool.

So glad you are back out on the rails Shoestring, thanks for the videos. It was a B-25 Mitchell bomber that crashed into the Empire State building, same type of plane that was used in the Doolittle raid on Tokyo in 1942.
