Paul Coffey's influence on the Oilers defensive play has definitely been a huge factor in Edmonton getting this far.

Agreed, he got a lot of shite for not being a "defender," but his defensive formula shows how much he's studied the game. Our penalty kill is fantastic, and the way we're always hustling to push attacking players wide is totally cool.

Oilers are really putting to bed all the dumb, forced narratives self-proclaimed hockey experts have been parroting all season long. Skinner is playing great, the PK is flawless, they have the most 5on5 goals in the playoffs, the defence is shutting down both Vancouver and Dallas, two teams who were both supposed to walk all over the Oilers with their superior depth, which is also being constantly disproven with Oilers getting one or two goals every single game from their depth players. This series is not over by any stretch, and whoever comes out of the East will be a tough opponent. But if the Oilers end up doing the unthinkable, I'm going to go on the pettiest, most merciless I-told-you-so revenge tour across all comment sections spanning the entire season.

I can't wait for the narrative if the Oilers make it to the next round that Dallas was just another weak opponent and now they're finally playing a legit team. Both LA and Vancouver were good opponents, and Dallas is also a great team, the Oilers are motivated to get it done. It's not a case of their opponents being garbage, it's actually that the Oilers are good, playing well, and able to stay relatively healthy.

When we least expect it the Stars completely implode. This was an issue throught the year when at times seemingly out of nowhere this team would just stop playing, stop skating, stop doing anything that resembled a team interested in competing. I point the fingers at ALL of them beginning with Otter whos numbers at home in the post season have been abysmal. He tends to just check out for no reason and stays gone for long stretches before snapping back out of it. But he's hardly alone and the Stars top forwards have been MIA for large stretches of the post season. Another issue is their blue line and outside of Tanev and Miro they lack size strength and skill and Edmonton has dialed in on that and has been eating them up. I pretty much feel this series is over as the Stars have once again been figured out and are getting outplayed and dare I say out coached.

Neutral fan here. I have always been a huge fan of Pavelski, it has been hard to watch his complete lack of production and influence during the playoffs. On the other hand, I can't help but love Wyatt Johnston, what a talent. Good luck to fans of these remaining teams. My guess is that Florida gets it done this season, but any of the four can do it.

I have to hand it to you Shannon, the Oilers have taken out your Canucks, and almost Dallas..and here you are with a huge voice of respect, and educated reasons for the Oilers to win it all, and in an Oiler jersey! The Oil have been/ learnt thru multiple heartbreaks, and it’s their time! Bravo 👏 man!

Had said it during the Vancouver series, that series, was the best thing that happened to Edmonton in these playoffs. It forced them to have to dig deep, play solid defense, and adjust. Without that series, this one here, would be entirely different. Edmonton learned many lessons in 7 short games against Vancouver, and it is paying dividends here now. They have to win 1 of 2. I imagine they manage to pull it off in either G6, or G7. I think it's their series to lose now, outside of the 3-2 advantage, just in momentum and control.

The rant about the commercial (7:22), the comments about putting the mavericks on the ice (9:50), that line about the Oilers PK ("...the Stars do get a powerplay, so -- Edmonton with the chance to kill another one!", 10:02), ... it's this sort of dry humor that plays a large part in why I would bother watching a guy with a whiteboard reviewing the games in his basement. xD Always a pleasure, Shannon! That, and your rich hockey knowledge and intelligent+well informed (often strong) opinions! :)

Evan Bouchard is the reason the Oilers made the playoffs, he's the reason the Oilers beat the Canucks and he's the reason the Oilers are up 3 games to 2 right now. 18g-64a-82p with a +34 in 81 games, he's got 6g-19a-25p and a +15 in 17 playoff games, in this game he had 2 assists and 3 blocked shots. Nobody mentions him, he's like the X-Man Forget-Me-Not, Rodney Dangerfield and the Invisible Man rolled into one player. The Oilers won me $450 by advancing to the Western Finals, I'm using half of my winnings to get a Bouchard #2 Oilers jersey.

Pavelski looks so washed. He, Duchene, & Marchment have done very little. Stars look slow & soft outside of a couple guys. Lacked urgency all night. Just pathetic. Credit to the Oilers for making this a track meet and dominating possession

Johnston and Stankoven look the only Stars forwards with energy left. Tanev, Lindell and Heiskanen are great on the blue line (apart from that penalty) but you don't win a series scoring purely from the blue line.

I have a feeling that this series is over on Sunday. I just have a feeling McDavid and draisaitl aren't going to let this opportunity get away from them, but give Coffey and knoblouch thier flowers, coffey has a great defense system that is working, and knoblouch isn't afraid to take you out of the line up if you aren't performing well or shake up the line up after a bad game. This team is definitely learning from their past mistakes.

I am really hoping for an Oilers and Panthers finals because it will not only be a great series between two very talented teams but also because either a Canadian team is gonna get a cup for the first time in a while or a franchise without a cup title will get their first.

@@carpartheroum, and how old was Vernon when he won it? You don't know that Skinner won't win the Conn Smythe in the next 10 years, he's only 23. Anyway, my point was that an average Vernon was good enough to backstop a great Flames team to the Cup, like a average Skinner might be good enough to backstop the McDavid Oilers to the Cup. Vernon was already 7 years into his career in 1989....Skinner is in his 2nd.
