Great 3rd depth chart goalie in case Samsonov gets briefly injured again or Woll has unexpected growing pains. He's a fighter, whatever else you can say about him, and went 27-13-3 with the Kraken last year.

I would think Woll is the guy to be the backup. Jones is there to compete for the spot and give Woll something to fight for.

Given that Joesph Woll is not waivers exempt anymore Jones will more than likely get sent down to the Marlies and be a 3rd stringer for us as an injury replacement, no risk to the contract at all I like him as a 3rd Goalie for us

Not to say Foote can't become an NHL level defenseman, but it's looking more and more like that one was a huge whiff as a first rounder.

He showed flashes but little consistency with the Lightning and I don't think he ever earned Cooper's confidence. Does not have his Dad's mean streak or at least it has not manifested itself.

I’m surprised that the Canucks didn’t at least take a flyer on him with his dad here. Even if he doesn’t pan out, he can at least be a good AHL defenseman and maybe working with his dad would have helped him. The Canucks need defensive minded players and it’s a lie risk move that Jersey could be happy with. He probably won’t live up to 1st round expectations, but if he becomes an NHL regular like Luke Schenn, that’s not bad.

It is a 2-way contract which makes me think he will get his shoot at the NHL roster BUT this was probably a move to bring Nemec up from Utica.

It's just an insurance policy in case a guy goes down (or to make Woll compete a little bit for the job). Jones sucks but I wouldn't worry too much about him.

Good move by Toronto to address the continuing uncertainty in goal. Calgary and Edmonton probably need to have a solid 3rd option for call up this season, with their own uncertainties. I'm surprised to see this many North American players signing with the KHL. Not a lot of Europeans (outside of Russia and Belarus) still in that league anymore.

Sutter was miscast in Vancouver, but as a 4th line centre at this point, hopefully he has his wind back. That’s the thing COVID deniers don’t understand. Once you get it, your cardiovascular system can be affected permanently. If it affected a pro athlete that much, just imagine how it affects people who aren’t into fitness.

David Kase (brother of Ondrej) actually has contract in Czech league and hometown team of Litvinov, where also Ondrej Kase signed this summer. It's very unlikely he will be playing in North America next year.

Like the Leafs signing Jones as goaltending insurance. These days, it's important to have 3 serviceable NHL experienced goalies. Like James Reimer, save % not great, analytics below average etc... but win loss record is more important.. 27-13 with Seattle. Pretty good. Tells me the team felt good with him in net, and had confidence. Problem with Jones is that when he gets bad, he gets really bad. Consistency is a continual problem with him. Hopefully he finds success in Toronto.

I thought Jones stole a few games for Seattle and had more than one shutout from what I remember, outplayed Grubauer for a while in the regular season so as a veteran backup for cheap I love the signing

Honestly, I feel like Foote taking a two-way contract just means he will get a chance to crack the roster but this signing makes me think he is a replacement for Nemec in Utica.

I happen to take note watching Jones a few times last year and I was surprised he looked very good.I don't need to look at any stats because goalie stats go as the team goes but I know Jones is a capable goalie so Toronto needs to blaming the goalies the same way the Flyers always like to blame their goalies.

Thought Jones would have been the PERFET fit to backup Demko in Vancouver... Why it didn't happen, baffles me a bit. Canucks are NOT in a good place in net. Unless management are planning to play Demko 70 games and straight into another injury... 😵‍💫

1.15m not 1.25m. it's league minimum+375k that is the maximum cap relief from a player in the minors. I don't think Jones is over 35 but that doesn't apply for a player with a 35+ contract. I think you only get half the cap relief from memory but i could be wrong on that figure

Hard to say, lot of theories out there... they might try to trade Timmins, or send him to AHL. He might not clear waivers though. Lafferty is a possible traded player, which would be a shame. Not a goal scorer, but like his game and energy. They're not seriously over the cap, but will have to do something.

I actually hated to see Jones leave SJ. They played awful in front of him and he took the fall. I remember the game he had 58 saves, would be a record if it were not for Ben Scrivens in a game I do not want to talk about

I agree that he got blamed for a lot, despite a so -so D core. But there were other times when he failed to make a timely save when they really needed one, and it was starting to happen too often. He lost his confidence, and could not seem to get it back. I am surprised Seattle did not re-sign him. He had a 27-13 Win loss record.

The Leafs signed Martin Jones ? Did they watch the LA-Seattle 8-7 game last where Jones and various terrible LA goalies handed the game back and forth among themselves? He was terrible in Seattle He was the killick dragging them down. Seattle since their inception has been one of the best defensive teams in the league. Yet Jones was terrible for them. Why not just go looking for quick or cam talbot or elvis merzlikins ( okay too expensive)? Who are the Leafs pro scouts? Reimer would have been a much better signing. Detroit got him for $1.5 million. Okay that wouldnt work for the cap, but yikes. Toronto does need another NHL ready goalie.

Im gonna call it now Anaheim is gonna be 5th or 6th. Probably just miss the playoffs by a few points. I see a young and talented team with better but still bad Defense and hopefully Giby or Dostal. Maybe 7th or 8th and they trade Giby😅😂💔
