Spire Is Primed to Compete?!

In the last five years Spire Motorsports overall has easily been the most improved team in the NASCAR Cup Series. This was only strengthened today with the signing of crew chief Rodney Childers to be the crew chief for Corey LaJoie. The trajectory they are on leads many to believe that Spire is Primed to compete?!

Spire has been on fire lately over the past 12 months, with investment from Gainbridge they bought KBM, they bought a 3rd Cup Charter, signed Michael McDowell and recently signed Rodney Childers, we'll see if the LaJoie-Childers Duo works out. No disrespect to Corey Lajoie, IMO it would've made more sense for Rodney to partner up with McDowell or Carson Hocevar.

Exactly! Childers' presence won't make LaJoke a better driver. If Spire wants to get really serious, they need to dump LaJoke for someone else better.

Hey man this is the same guy who used to crew chief David Reutimann to two victories and some decent finishes in Pre-Bowyer MWR in 2009 and 2010, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Childers can make LaJoie, and even Spire much more competitive next year, he’s a guaranteed race winning crew chief, I’d watch out for the #7 Camaro next year honestly

Harvick had 23 wins and 6 top 5 points finishes before Childers. He definitely did even more after, but he was already a championship contender fairly consistently. I kinda think Childers just inherited a championship caliber driver with Harvick. I have low expectations with Lajoie for Lajoie reasons.

1st off the growth of Spire has been pretty amazing to watch. started as a start and park team, got partnerships and funding brought in key personal and bought a bigger shop, hired more employees, bought out KBM is experiencing some growing pains in terms of not running up front as often in trucks but still a solid and growing team. I think their cup program could be a championship contender if they run consistently and can get up front more.

I honestly don't see Andretti staying with Honda. They're working with GM in F1, and LEAVING Acura for GM in IMSA. I also think HMS is a HUGE part of Spire and won't only increase their alliance but I see Chevy throwing a ton of money at them. HMS/Spire will be the Chevy version of Penske/FRM. I see Kaulig and Trackhouse merging and being the SECOND Honda team behind CGR who comes back to NASCAR as the Honda factory team like Evernham was for Dodge from 01-07.

With Lajoie as the main driver you can kiss contention goodbye. But Childers and McDowell coming on board definitely strengthens that team significantly.

Spire is not a tier one partner but has enough money, and now people, to overcome that fact and be a contender. They’ve already shown speed this year, at least with the 77 car.

I saw people saying of Reddit that if Corey doesn’t perform in 2026. That Kyle Busch could move over to the 7 if spire does indeed improve to the level of RCR. It feels possible but I’m not sure it will happen.

I could see Spire being the ones to bring Honda into NASCAR given the existing Andretti partnership. There is also the fact that Andretti isn't joining F1 anytime soon & therefore has more time & resources to use towards a future NASCAR team.

Maybe hocevar and McDowell, but they will always have the weak link of Corey LaJoie. He has to have almost run out of second chances, and when his time is up, maybe then they can be playoff contenders

They’d still be a tier 2 team. No point in switching now. Especially with RCR falling apart, Spire could get tier 1 status at Chevy, which would be huge.

I won’t take spire seriously until get rid of LaJoie. 0 wins in any top 3 series in TEN YEARS…the dude doesn’t belong here. Just a big mouthed back marker driver with a podcast people seem to listen to for some reason. Dude runs in the back week in and week out, yet somehow has opinions about what every car in FRONT of him should be doing? Let someone with some talent drive the 7.

Childers deserves better. LaJoke won't magically become a better driver with him up in the pit box. The crew chief isn't the weakest link, it's the driver. Seriously, what does Spire see in LaJoke? He's only good at taking himself out just like he did at Chicago not long ago.
