Good to see these two countries despite many years of conflict in the past they still have each other. Remember, the French imperial Guards considered to be the best during 18th century, but later on defeated by the Duke of Wellington with his Red Coat army together withe the Great Prussian Army in the Battle of Waterloo. Nevertheless British and French now considered brothers.

Hello John, thank you for your very kind comment but let me tell you something regarding military bands in general. I find the King Guard Bands absolutely better than their french counterparts. For instance, when they are at Wellington Barracks preparing for Guard Changing, the band plays various music pieces with a great talent. I heard there "Love is in the air", or "Delilah" and even the theme of Rocky in St. James Palace. Beside this, they play beautiful english military pieces while marching to BP without to forget the role played by for instance SDM Gareth Chambers who personnify the British Pride at its best. Definately, the British are by far the best, take only the Trooping the Colour ceremony, no troop can beat them with their perfect drill. I'm french and I find the music played by the Garde Républicaine boring because they play always the same. Well, I must confess that I'm also a die-hard anglophile... Have a great day John, keep well!

@@Laurent-Raggos Thank you for the upbeat (and uplifting~!) comments. It's interesting to watch different militaries on parade, the Ghurkas with their brisk short pace, the Brits we all know, the Yanks with their pizzazz and (dare I say it?) swagger ... but all of them musicians and good at it. I most like the Legion with that long slow pace ... I tried it myself and it's not as easy as it looks to outsiders.

@@johnhough7738 Dear John, thank you so much for your very interesting comment and the time taken in replying to my message. All that you say is true, we can't avoid to have preferences but honestly speaking, they all deserve our respect. To emphasise what I was talking about in my first comment: I'm a former non-commissioned of the French Army (tank regiment). When I was in service, I had a colleague who had been transferred from Berlin, Germany (Allies Occupation Forces) to my regiment based in France. I will always remember him when he said: "I've seen the Russians, I've seen the Americans but the Brits, my God, they are by far the most impressive". My opinion towards you Great Country and People*: You may not win their hearts right away but once it's done, the British are unwavering in friendship. Thank you for your kind attention and patience to read me... My very best regards to you John

@@Laurent-Raggos Thank you for your kind remarks. I did a three week course (decades ago now) in France, it involved a few ex-French forces guys and several ex Legionnaires as well. I noticed that the aircraft we were using (Dragon Rapide) was perfect three points landings every time (before lunch). After lunch the port wheel touched first, then starboard, and with a few interesting moments it all came together. That's when and where I developed a love for the French and their red wine. I've always found the French to be wonderful people and not at all lacking in humour; sadly I'm a bit too old to go back now.

One of our Guards, at the rear of the marching column, was vastly over weight and one in the centre of the column was very much out of line. The latter 'happens' - but - an overweight soldier in a column of such prestige ?! Embarrassing ....let alone combat effective.
