IGP was wondering why some of the men turned into mobile threats, while others remained stuck to the walls as meat moss. Me, I have to suspect that anger, itself, was a factor: Rennick lived, breathed, and crapped anger in his every line, and both Trots and Addair seem to have been really angry about politics, albeit from different sides of the spectrum. Gibbo got pretty touchy about Trots's activism at breakfast too, more so than their conversation really seemed to warrant. The main exception seems to be Muir, but the way Innes chewed him out for being careless that morning might've ticked him off a lot more than he allowed to show at the time.

What's wild is that Rennick realistically exists, especially on rigs. My late grandfather worked on an oil rig in the north sea and he'd always tell me stories about people like Rennick. When the Piper Alpha exploded, a lot of company men refused to cosign on the deaths because it "cost too much".

I think this game is not just a representation of the real world but a metaphor it. Rennick is likely only trying to make a living just as everyone else, though at the expense of others; his job is to increase profits and that mindset might be what made him so bitter. The game itself is a metaphor for capitalism. The oil company exploiting its workers and environment leads to the collapse of the rig itself. The monster will destroy the rig as well as humanity if it isn’t destroyed. That’s why Caz killing the monster was a perfect ending. The lesson of the story is so obvious and clues are mentioned so many times I’m surprised no one has said anything. There’s so much more to the story but that would take an entire essay, so well done.

@@Witerally_Me I love how they made Caz so messy in that revelation too. Throughout the game you always had a sense of him trying to "fix" or more accurately run away from the problem and hoping that everything will eventually work out (him crime, his marriage, his job, escaping the rig itself, etc) even when reality tells him otherwise. Finlay telling him to "be brave" was so beautiful as he finally takes a stance to stand his ground and face reality even when it will cost him everything. GOD, what an amazing game!

Ignoring the fact it’s an incredible story, for someone like me, from the west of Scotland, finally hearing a game in my language, my accent, hearing words that only people from my home will know, it’s the first time a game has been truly immersive. I done an offshore safety course many years ago with a view to working on the rigs. This game reminds me so much of that (even though we never got onto the rigs, there were several emergency scenarios set up in the place we trained in and I saw a few similar here) I think, when you’re American or even English, you hear your accent and dialect so often you don’t think about it as much but playing a game, no matter how good, and hearing the sane American accents just tears you out of the immersion the developers are trying to create so this, for me, in my accent, with my dialect and with words in our language that are purely ours, and in an industry that has been a bedrock of our society for so long… It’s just so amazing, so breathtaking

In my opinion, the fact the saddest death wasn't even a death by the creatures is just a nasty stab, Roy died because of his Diabetes, not even the fucking monsters, its like the game forced us to worry about the creatures more and forget that Roy would die if he didn't get his Insulin, out of all the deaths Caz seemed so broken at Roys death specifically, really showed his bond with Roy.

My dad works att an oil rig and hes told me stories about an oil rig in the uk named piper alpha which exploded because of jet fires and killed 165 of the 226 workers on board the only means of escape was to jump into the freezing ocean from a 60 meter drop and hope that you can keep swimming until help arrives. i also texted him asking about the natural disaster and he responded with this: Yes oil rigs are affected by weather. In the gulf of new mexico there are yearly hurricanes when they have a big hurricane warning they lock up all the stuff inside or strap it in they also send everyone onshore.

It indeed would have made his death even worse because for me, since I didn't pick it up or see it, there was hope that he found it and is okay, just hiding away. Losing that hope is kind of a running theme in this game. So little to hold onto but we kept pushing. Having that little hope become a complete uncertainty just adds to the horror and the intensity of finding Roy again.

And I just realised in Roy's announcement after I meet back up with Finlay and Brodie he mentions the insulin but it's slightly cut off and after reading it it implies he didn't get it...welp I guess when playing and even in editing heard his message as in he's hiding and he's not sure how long he is going to survive LOL

@@DragonhatchieYeah it's been years for me as well, but it's certainly not a new concept I don't think. I've never watched Neebs so I'm not familiar with him doing it but again, it's not some editing breakthrough or anything. I actually got the idea to try stuff like this while watching shows and getting a look into how the sound design works. Always wondered about how they get the voices to sound so fitting in the rooms and I leaned about how actors go into the studio to records dubs after filming if the in-field audio is too noisy. And I just thought one day to try it out and I loved the result. And now it's just super fun trying to get the audio to fit every environment. I even tried recording my own convolution reverb impulses to use in my videos but they never turn out great lmao

If he was mad, it was probably mad in a light-hearted manner. But honestly, the comment kinda fits with Caz's personality, because he's more of a direct person, likely trending towards immediate solutions to more complicated matters, such as beating a man who likes his partner, rather than taking a high road or some other solution. This game is like a breath of fresh air. I'm scottish myself and we rarely get depiction or representaion in public media that isn't joking about our culture that people see as silly. While this obviously doesn't have the right scenery/setting to teach people about scottish culture, it's so nice to hear actual scottish accents, slang and conversations that isn't done by someone who's got a distant cousin three times removed on their mothers side somewhere in scotland. This game is so well done mechanically and thematically. And the world-building through the environments and time-period is downright masterful. The creators of this game should be immensely proud of themselves. And on behalf scotland, aye mate it's awright. Well in lads ❤️

Not to mention, the voice actors absolutely killed it and sharing that with us all is incredibly. If they hadn't been 11/10 it wouldn't have been near as good. Fantastic. Awesome to hear yall!

Piper Alpha oil platform, north-east of Aberdeen, Scotland. It exploded 6th of July in 1988, and killed 167, including two from the rescue members. The crew on board the platform was 226, and only 61 workers survived and escaped. It is the deadliest Oil platform disaster ever. I assume this game was inspired by this specific tragedy, with it being set in the North Sea off the coast of Scotland.

I randomly came across this video the other day. I watched a couple of different parts and decided that the game looked really good. So I downloaded it on my ps5, played through it twice, and already got the platinum trophy. It was a great game. Great music, atmosphere, characters, voice acting, ending, etc. If it were longer it would have been insane, but when I finished it, I felt like I had done just about everything I could have done. Hopefully we can get another game like this soon.

IGP says it's a horror game set on an oil rig in the middle of the open ocean. I hear "oil rig" and "open ocean" and already feel my pulse start to race and my stomach get weak. I'd have the creeping horrors standing on an ocean oil platform on a calm, sunny day.

I feel the saddest part is the fact that suze and everyone else probably won't ever know about what actually happened on the rig and it might just be considered a accidental explosion

Yellow is likey used as the color of "Go here" and "You can open this" due to the same reason that road signs and road paint is commonly yellow, its bright and noticeable. Plus with yellow being used on road signs and road paint most people are already trained to look at yellow as a form of instruction.
@SSD_Penumbra

It works here because Yellow is also used on rigs to indicate safety guidelines, so shit like ladders and stuff would realistically be painted yellow.

It's less about the specific color, and more about contrast. Yellow is usually a pretty good contrast to most environments, but highly saturated colors in general work.

It's an oil rig. They use any sort of high-contrasting paint on oil rigs for safety guidelines and indications of danger. The game goes an extra mile with it, though you can turn the extra yellow paint that was solely put in to guide players off in the settings. The rest of the yellow paint that makes sense for the game's setting remains.
