I'm challenged with people pleasing and being focused on what others think. I have listened to many of your videos and am taking notes and journaling to be more authentic in my interactions with others. This video leaves me feeling hopeful(energized in my heart space) that by focusing on essence rather than striving I will be able to live a more authentic life.

Thanks for your share. Yes, I think it will (just tread gently with yourself as you do - sometimes the inner critic can have a 'oh, is this really your essence? field day!') Glad these videos are helping you 🙏

Never knew what I was doing but glad to know I wasn't going through a life crisis. Lots of tongues wagged when I resigned my job, went into business as I changed to my authentic self-mindset from striver-self. Shed skin is right! I felt less the need to prove myself and more the desire to just live as me. I'm feeling healthier and happier. Also strangely enough I'm rediscovering my joyful childhood innocence that just loved living and life when I'm relaxed. That's when I get more creative and resilient. Thanks for this. It's always refreshing when you realize others are in your corner and guiding you along.

Jack, This very much landed with me. I have participated in many Landmark Education courses, seminars, etc. since my early 20's...anyway, my husband passed from cancer 40 mos. ago, then my mother a 13 mos later and then my father 12 mos after that...bam bam bam...and I was in action mode until a few months ago when I completed settling my parents estate. There I was. Widowed and not having to be so frantically go go going all the time. I went from there into constantly creating my next steps and having way too many goals and starting things and quitting them over and over...exhausting(!)..and slowly but surely I realized I need to slow down and be present and only once I did that, every day, even with my full time job and constant house repairs and car repairs, I have started to get closer to the essence of who I am. My authentic self. I have now let go of caring what my two siblings think of me or anyone else, for that matter. I am focusing on self care and forgiveness came first. Also, gratefulness (every day), patience and forgiveness of myself when I fall short, eating healthy, exercise, singing, dancing, reading...LOVE "The Power of Now", by Eckhart Tolle, which I am halfway through...learning to choose my 4 or 5 main goals and striving from a more relaxed place. You said some things though that helped me to acknowledge all of the above and more and I just realized that how I was not consistently being my authentic self with a man I know that I am very attracted to and interested in. So, thanks and this was one of my favorite of your videos. It felt like I could reach out and touch you as it was so REAL. Awesome job!! ♡

Hey Diane! Sounds like a lot has been on your path! Trust life knows you can handle it at some level. Really love that this message felt so real to you 🙏 Did you manage to shift things with the guy? I also love the Power of Now both when I first read it in 2009 and when I re-read it lots in 2017!
@dig1272

@@thejackbutler Hey Jack, Yes, I did manage to shift things with the guy basically by being real with him. I shared how he helped me. Opened my heart and did not make him feel there was any obligation or pressure to reciprocate and he shared, just briefly, half a sentence, that I helped him as well. The issue there is complicated, on his end. But it is interesting that since I have been practicing not being attached and focusing on myself, over the past few weeks I have dropped 10 lbs and started running. And, I still think I am in love with this guy but I am clear that I am the source of love and a huge amount of romantic thoughts and feelings, not him. I know I AM the SOURCE so I can create this with any man I choose AND I am still not done with this thing with this particular guy. Maybe there is just a healing going on between us and once healed we will let go. Oh, once I was authentic with him he drew the line..no no that cannot be and I accepted that. Funny thing is that now he is reaching out to me more than before. I think it made him trust me more when I laid myself bare. I am a bit dramatic. lol! If anything, everything I have been through has been a path to getting in direct contact my higher self. Sometimes, often times, I am now feeling like I am 25 again and there are endless possibilities to explore. I really feel deeply for the guy, I really do, but it is not my job to rescue him or force anything. I am working on being the space where he can open up. And I am aware I may be trying to heal him, and myself, so it is a balancing act to keep my true love for him and my desire to heal him separate. I may have repeated myself...It is just so amazing and freeing to feel love again even when it is excruciatingly painful.

@@thejackbutler - Strange thing happened. The "guy" ended it yesterday because I got too emotionally involved (bottom line) and although it hurt like hell yesterday for about 4 hours, I now feel relief. I was dwelling on him the whole time and had trouble focusing on MY life. Now back to ME! Your video where you talk about subject/object was interesting. Never heard that before. Will look into that. I need to do the work to see why I am attracted to emotionally unavailable men.

This certainly resonates. I have been that person you describe who has lived multiple lives in one lifetime. It's been awesome. But it only came about once I dropped my need to be in control of things and dropped to my knees and said "Not my will, but Thine." With this I gave control over to my Authentic Self, and have never regretted it.

I love the word "essence" it's just perfect 😊😊😊 I've created a strong / driven / outgoing personality as a strategy to succeed in life up until now. Below this is the true me. Many people don't know and see and when they do they get confused by when I get into the real me. The older I get, the more I'm trying to flow and be the "essence" of me while I switch on and use the power of the "who the world wants me to be" and sometimes I like to be both. Sometimes it's a blurred line between who I really am and who I want to be.

Finding our authentic self is important. Recognizing that the same mindset of who I was 10 years ago, has changed to someone different from my present self today. To focus more on the here and now. That way to be more 80% with self, 20% over there. If we stay aware that we need to be more relaxed within ourselves, without defining ourselves as one specific type of personality, we will find less restraints and be able to be more fluid as Jack has said.

It's fitting that I get to be the 100th person to comment on this...because this was 100% spot on! WOW! Thank you for giving me language for the metamorphosis that I went thru about three years ago. I got so tired of striving...so I stopped. And since I was standing by my bed, I took a long nap. When I woke up I began living from my essence. Boy, do I love it! But you know what Jack, I'm glad to have experienced both selves...because my "striver self" went to law school, wrote three books, edited more than 35 books, and read hundreds of books written by some pretty smart strivers. LOL Then something whispered, "There's another way." HOWEVER, from time to time my striver-self will tug at my dress, saying, "You should do so and so." Then I remember that so and so ain't me. Your video is a game-changer because you've helped me to more fully embrace, love and honor where I am.

This is the first time I am commenting on a video about relationships. There is a profound balance among nlp, cognitive behavioural therapy, psychoanalysis, and spiritual work ( probably there is more that I am not ready to hear yet). Lately I feel extremely alienated from my self and others and I am on a constant explorative mode, with self criticism and anger. This video opened a whole new world! However it sounds like a journey that one needs to go alone. It’s been three years already that I have been introducing myself to me..and I am still in the beginning .. thank you for this 🙏

Thank you so much for this video. It describes where I am now: trying to let go of the persona I thought I was, layer by layer, to become my truer self (or inner self I like to say). I find it exciting, and a bit unsettling as there are no (or new) benchmarks that have NO connection with what I'm use to. Now it's more on intuition and vibrations, feelings... so meditation helps a great deal to develop this new way of being and going around. I love it and I'm happy to see that others are going through it too, and able to put words on it, like you do so clearly. Namaste Jack

Wow Jack, Your explanation of Essence and Personality is superb! I was practicing as a pharmacist but my true self is a Certified Diabetes educator. I love coaching, support and empower people living with diabetes with the knowledge they need to succeed. I believe it starts with curiosity to find our authentic self. Let down our ego and our wall protection and learn. Thank you for sharing your insights.

You always talk about interesting concepts I hadn't considered. Not going to lie, I had to hit rewind a couple parts to pause and think about what you're saying but always good food for thought. I think it's great that you've found yourself and really gotten to know who you are.

Wow, this has really given me a lot to think about. Am I more than a very loving, positive, loyal woman? Am I more than a beautiful lady, with perfect manners? What are my other qualities that I’ve ignored out of fear. Great thought provoking video. Love Jack Butler’s genius. Covid19 has given me the opportunity to reflect on me. I’m going to allow myself the gift of being my authentic self. Now on to the harder part; exactly who am I? 🌹 Jacqueline

Jack Thank you so much!! I am at a loss for words because I just did my own video yesterday, and it’s almost like a psychic energy when I heard you say everything in this video.... when I listened to this today I am in the Wow!! I documented a (daily) video just for myself. Truly appreciate this and love how much this resonates with me!! 🙏🏻☺️. Thank you so much!! On top of kundalini rising and a deep spiritual awakening.

Thank you. I loved the metaphor of the bubbling spring. Your being shines through in all your videos, but this one got me to hit the subscribe button :) Melanie x

Thank you Jack for the reminder to relax and flow. You are right, we do live different lifetimes in one life and I’m finding myself striving too much now because I got caught up in the rapids. Time to slow down and float and see where the ride starts to take me. I appreciate so much the reminder to just be for a bit.... ✨

Thank you. I was awakened to this a few months back but I couldn't capture the "essence" of it. I knew that I had developed habits that were reactions over my life and called it my personality, but the reality is that I could've developed different and more productive habits or personality.

OMG! Another awesome truth from Jack! Finding myself suddenly by myself...my 3 legged race w/ my spouse was over...and I didn,t know what legs belonged to me, myself and I. A year later a noisy neighbor asked me "How are you, REALLY?" ....I went home, called the realtor and told her to list the house. I wasn't the person anymore who wanted to live up to my past...I started from scratch, I really like myself now....once you sit with your sadness, disappointments, mistakes, etc and feel them, forgive yourself and let go, the happiness of now is even greater...an essense of what can continue. And solutions come together so much better. Thank you Jack. THAT WAS VERY WELL PRESENTED.

Yes, this absolutely does make sense. The conditioning, programming we all strive to overcome in order to free ourselves from expectations from others is essential in order to grow and evolve into our authentic selves. That self needs to not be identified with the ego values, personality or on the hamster wheel trying to prove our self worth.
