I think the difference was the always on display for the drain on the 8 series

Ultra is at 75% for me after 24 hours, AOD was on between 9AM-4PM, and had a 8KM bike ride. Was not expecting this to be this good. This is with normal use, sleep tracking too, and low power mode is off.

Wow, that’s dedication man. Great video, didn’t seem long at all. I’m impressed with all actually, and even though it’s quite slow the Series 3 still looks good iMo. The Ultra is just beast, although it usually loses a good 40% playing music for +/- 7 hours as I do. Huge respect for all you do for the/your viewers. Big thanks! Happy Christmas.

This video is planned for Jan. 2023!! Stay tuned! It is going to take a while to put together. If the ultra lasted 3d+ with regular settings, having always on display disabled could extend that to 5d+ , so bare with me but thank you for your comment and just wanted to let you know that that video is IN THE PIPELINE 😊

On an AMOLED screen, black pixels use the least amount of energy because they are essentially turned off and do not emit any light. This is because AMOLED screens use organic compounds that emit light when an electrical current is passed through them. When black pixels are displayed, the electrical current is not passed through those pixels, resulting in less energy consumption. In contrast, white pixels require the most energy because they need to emit a lot of light to be visible. Other colors, such as red, green, and blue, use varying amounts of energy depending on their brightness and the intensity of the electrical current needed to create them. Therefore, to save battery life on an AMOLED screen, it is best to use a dark theme or black backgrounds for apps and menus, which will minimize the use of bright pixels and reduce energy consumption.

Just got the SE 2. Not getting anywhere near that battery life. My 3 year old series 3 with 97% battery health is outperforming the se2. I did get decent battery life once just after resetting the se. I took it off the charger at 1:30pm but left it idle on my nightstand until 8 am the follow morning. Put it on and ran some errands until 5 pm them did a 5km walk (about 45 minute’s long). Put it back on the charger at 10 pm and it was still at 35% (32 hours use) That only happened once. Most of the time I am losing about 2-3% per hour while idle (more when doing workouts). One night it lost 22% in 10 hours not being used.

I think the lack of health sensors and regular blood oxygen tests helps the SE more than lack of always on display.

Nah. The lack of always on display is the key of different battery performance. The blood oxygen sensor activates only a few times in a day, it can detect your spO2 only when you are inactive for more than one minute.

I have a question, I have an Apple Watch, SE 44mm 2022. My wife has a series 8 41mm her battery. At the end of the day it’s less 20% of mine she doesn’t have and always on display and roughly the same settings as mine. Today I’ve done a three hour GPS walk and she has been at work. No GPS and I’m still beating hers on battery doesn’t seem right to me.

I had AOD activated everyday on my S7. Turned my watch off before bed and back on when I wake up. I would get 24hrs of battery. I get an extra 6-12hrs if AOD is off. I’m at 96% capacity after 6months

What a useless test. Use all devices with same settings. If one does not have AoD don't use AoD on other devices. Waste of time.

Heavily disagree. This is relevant to the actual battery life most people will expect. Most people want AoD for their watch, so they aren't going to turn it off

Thank you for this review !! I have a series 3 apple watch and its battery health is at 95%.. it gets through the day but barely 😭 i was thinking i should just buy the series 9.. hoping it lasts longer than the series 8 🥲
