I’ve only had one run in with this fish, I’m not going to lie but it was terrifying. I only just managed to get back into my cyclops before it managed to get me. It was a truly traumatic experience and I haven’t played subnautica since. I respect you, sir bacon for managing to get this close to this vicious creature without crying.

As long as a creature is in containment, you can pick it up. So you can pick it up and put it on a locker on the Neptune.

My theory is that the cuddledish eggs are similar to the Sea Emperor eggs, in that they cannot hatch in the wild and must be raised with care.

i like the theory that they actually metamorph into some kind of lovecraftian giant and where you to raise one it could actually protect you imagine you're being chased by an adult ghost leviathan and suddenly an adult cuddle fish impales it saving you then telepathically communicating that it remembers you

I'm not kidding I actually cried when I had to say goodbye to the cuddlefish. Like I actually teared up and started crying. The animation broke my heart.. curse my big animal heart

There's also that dark theory about why there are no adult Cuddle Fish: They were turned into Warpers. It would explain why Warpers are so intelligent, as well as why you find a Cuddle Fish egg in the same facility where they were making Warpers...

Fun fact: My first capsule actually had a cuddlefish egg and when i got it i was so happy, whoever did it, thanks! (the message was: he brought me so much joy, i hope he can do the same with you and a pic where he was hugging his arm)

You can take Cuddlefish into your inventory after it hatched from an egg. This means that you can take Cuddlefish with you to the Neptune Rocket.

In my first playthrough, I have found a time capsule that had 2 cuttlefish eggs in it. This means that I can now completely fill the time capsule with cuddle fish which you could not normally do this due to the time capsule having 6 slots, and there being only 5 in the world. I hope that this will make someone very happy. 😊

My Theory: They are sea dragon larva. I hear you say “But... we can See the eggs of the cuddle fish and the sea dragon are different!” And I respond with: The cuddlefish egg is the YOLK of the sea dragon egg. Yeah, the theory is dumb but imagine it going into a Cocoon and coming out as a sea dragon

All my cuddlefish glitched inside my base in a really creepy way. I can hear them, see them in the cyclops radar but they’re nowhere to be seen :( I feel like I’m hearing their ghosts.

Cuddlefish is definitely a close relative of the sea emperor leviathan, they both have arms (fins in this case, but they couldve evolved into fins to better maneuver) they both have a short snout, 5 tentacles on the back, and require specific conditions to hatch, maybe they have very long lifespans and will eventually grow into cuddlefish leviathans after hundreds of years of growth

When you realise cuddlefish have double the health of a reaper leviathan and the same health as a reefback leviathan

One day I came back and couldn't find it swimming around my base, broke my heart. After I finished the story and was building the Neptune rocket I decided to get a cuddlefish egg for the time capsule, as I was driving my cyclops back i see a white bioluminescent strip swimming around in the safe shallows about 300m from my base and it ended up being the cuddlefish that ran off from my base. Got to say goodbye to it just before I left 4546B

My theory on the lack of cuddle fish is that they're an invasive species that are responsible for the destruction of certain fish populations, and they were captured by the precursors as a population control method. Their kindness is from being kept as pets and the lack of their eggs is because of them being mostly discarded to be eaten or being destroyed.

I like to believe cuddlefish is actually a friendly leviathan that over time grows to be huge (about a size of an adult reefback). But when the player hatches one, its just a newborn and it'll take years to have it grow huge.

I once opened a time capsule with a keep calm poster a plush and a cuddlefish egg. However due to me being new I didn't understand it and I thought it was random. Normally I would've trashed the egg as I did not have containment then but I kept it. Glad I did

I created a save just before the Neptune Launch on my first play through just to see the ending. After that I reloaded and RP'd my character deciding not to leave the planet and instead living out his days with his beloved Cuddlefish by his side.

I’d love to have a couple around one of my 3 bases. The problem is that one is in the Blood Kelp Trench and I’m afraid of it getting lost in the dark, another is in the lava zone (need I say more?) and my main base has a couple of friendly Sand Sharks

Okay so hear me out (spoilers) The creature that killed the degasi survivors was a cuddlefish leviathan. It is described as being a huge kraken like being with the tenticals. You can also find a cuddlefish egg in the base which may explain why margaruit brought an adult cuddlefish leviathan for bart to study instead of a baby. The reason you can't find one in the wild be be because it lives at the bottem of the void. This would also make sense to why they are "fully grown" when they hatch. For all we now it could take 400000000 years to grow to full leviathan size.

Wait I have a theory. The Cuddlefish was a specimen Bred by the Precursors. It is the spawn of a Sea Dragon and a Sea Emperor Leviathan! They attempted to spread them throughout the wild to see if they could hatch and defend themselves long enough to produce Enzyme 42, but they ended up having to leave because of the disease and the Sea Dragon Attack. The Cuddlefish were incorrectly breeded and could not create Enzyme 42 after being in an egg for so long, whereas the young Sea Emperors could.
