It's true! I've done an extensive study of the creatures in Subnautica and I've found that they are utterly fearless yet surprisingly tame. In survival mode they seem to behave a lot like the stalkers. More often than not they will just bite you once and swim off. They sometimes do this little tail whip when turning to swim away that will definitely zap you if you're slow to move away. Every once in a while, however, there will be one that wants to hunt me down. I often build my main base right in the kush biome. The biggest danger when leaving my enclosure has been the crabsquids that appear and disappear, seemingly at random.

Just finished my first hardcore playthrough yesterday. I had a base right on the border where the Bulb Zone meets the Mountains, so I got used to Ampeels fast, they're pretty okay, if they do damage you, it's a quick repair and they usually go away. Now the Bone Sharks that hung out around my base...wouldn't stop attacking my vehicles anytime I was going in or out of the moonpool. Let's just say I stopped dealing with their behaviour after I got a certain drill arm for a certain mech suit, and posed bone shark bodies outside, whose remains presumably, were eaten while I was away.

Once I leaved an ampeel among a bunch of about 10 or more stalkers, then, I can't say what happened. Just a single ampeel killed almost 10-15 stalkers one by one but very quickly, I felt too bad and get in my prawn suit to help stalkers killing the ampeel!!! From that time, I left doing experiments on creature vs creature fights in my main game of Subnautica, that really makes me feel too much awful and saddd!!! :( Not only this, after killing the ampeel, he I think spawned again at the same place and started killing stalkers again, this happened a few times and then I used my Repulsion Canon to push him some places back, but it was used to be a lot difficult as he was too hard to be pushed of, and idk why but he (as I assume) sometimes used to return to the same spot of stalkers when attacked heavily by gas pods, etc. in the shallows, but I just managed somehow to push him away!!

One time i ran across a ghost leviathan when i was exploring the river. It was going at my prawn suit when a pack of river prowlers came out of the brine and distracted the ghost leviathan. Eventually i was able to get out of there and make it to the lava zone. I love river prowlers now.

I love the river prowler, its head is the closest in resemblance to a shark head of any creature in the game and how it uses its tendrils is very similar to how thresher sharks attack schools of fish so if anything its more shark like than eel like.

Ampeels Are Possibly The Most Annoying Creature For Me. Every Time I Go Into The Blub Zone, Where I’m Already Scared Enough, I ALWAYS Bump Into One Of These. It’s Usually Behind Me, And It Annoys Me How It ALWAYS DAMAGES MY SEAMOTH, Same With Bonesharks Down There. I Always End Up Getting Out And Repairing My Seamoth, And I Have To End Up Doing This At Least Once Every Minute.

Hello, I'm surprised you haven't done something for the mesmer yet. They're easily one of the most interesting creatures in the game. I suggest you make one later if you have the time. Either way, cool content. Keep it up.

I'm not gonna lie to you, that river prowler noise scared the sh*t outta me.

I never thought about those dots on the snout having a different meaning. Perhaps they’re extremely reduced and shriveled eyes left over from a time they maybe had four. This could mean they’re descendants of the reaper leviathan and could explain the similar body structure and hunting strategies with the tendrils and mandibles being used for the same thing. The eyes would’ve started to disappear due to the low light environment they adapted to keeping the top two but we can see that even these are starting to disappear being very cloudy looking and being pretty small.

The ampeel might be distantly related to the ghost leviathan because in the juvenile entry it says something along the lines of bears similarities to other eel like predators in the area but with covered probgs

Released a hatched ampeel in the lost river and the juvenile ghost leviathan nearby didn't hang around long after my pet ampeel started to give chase lol surprised the hell out of me as I was expecting the juvi ghost to devour it.

Perhaps you could do a special long episodes of all the small fish like, the hoover fish, hoop fish, and so on, going over each and small facts or anything especially interesting, maybe even closely related real life counterparts

When you said your last theory about the river prowler, it may have lived in land, because in the PDA, when you encounter the floating Islands, its says that they have onced floated higher that the sea level, and they are just under the bloodkelp biome which leads to the Lost River.

The ampeel’s egg’s rods may be an artistic choice, but theoretically if the parent got close and created and electric current, it would pass to the rods on the egg to help defend it

Not gonna lie, whilst I respect the courage of the ampeel, I hate it when I am trying to get to the lava zone with my cyclops and the only thing I hear is "Warning: Creature Attack" cause the damn ampeel won't leave me alone

some stuff about ampeel that i found odd it got 3000 health and you can raise and release it near your base to never ever remove it again unless it run away it also weirdly passive when you release it. you only take shock damage when release and they dont really bite you for some reason

Chances are that for the river prowler the nostril looking holes are electrical sensing organs that allow it to hunt better

The nostrils aren’t really too strange; most fish on earth have nostrils, and some, like sharks, have ridiculously powerful senses of smell. Maybe the River Prowler is slowly losing theirs because the brine overpowers any smells, or it could be the other way, they’re in the middle of developing stronger nostrils to sort through the brine. Anyway, great video as always!

These holes might also work as a sensory organ? Smelling or even sensing electric currents. There are quite a lot of animals that do that in animals

The nose thing isnt a trait that implies terrestrial life. On earth, almost all jawed fish have similar openings used for smell, including sharks, whod openings look similar to the river prowler's nostrils

Maybe the river prowler's nose is similar to a great white shark's, Smelling the blood of it's prey from far distances to attack them suddenly.

I just realized the skeleton with holes in the side is the leviathan ancestor of the ampeel.

I think the river prowler must be a modern day version of the gargantuan leviathan. I mean they live in the same place, are both eel-like, and their head structure and teeth are roughly the same (although obviously different sizes).

Just wondering if there's a video explaining the history of the planet itself. Specifically, that bit where your "AI" tell you that some part of the world was above water (due to the type of erosion parts of the mountain island has below water; there's also even a path going underwater to above water).

River prowlers may be baby ghost leviathans. Aside from its look which has obvious similarities to a ghost leviathan, they are also only found in the lost river. The smaller the ghost leviathan, the closer to the lost river they are, with juveniles also hanging out there. Also, river prowlers dont have any collectable eggs because if my theory is correct, the tree in the lost river is its egg.

I think it would be cool that if you got shocked by a ampell it would slightly power your vechiels

The River Prowler I think got its appearance from a deep sea creature called a viperfish which has a similar jaw appearance and long body...like the viperfish it has 2 long fangs at lower jaw...
