The Last Homely House

The Last Homely House

3 жыл бұрын

This is like watching paint dry, only slower. I have just re-edited it and taken out a heap more of me talking about how many plates I have. Really Kate?
But in my defence, if you tidy out a place that has been accumulating 'stuff' like this one has for many months, it is important to consider each thing carefully, so it can be relocated or celebrated depending on what it is and what it mean. Well, that's my excuse.
So before you hit the Thumbs Down, remember - you have a choice and that is what the 'delete' button if for!
And also what the 'subscribe' button if for! Thank you!
Also, thank you Patrons. Videos of all sorts, every week, right back to January 2019, monthly livestreams, Make-Alongs and many other treats await folk at that end of The Lime Green Sofa. Join them here
/ thelasthomelyhouse
The website is here
www.thelasthomelyhouse.co.uk
where you will find the shop, my blog, FAQs and other bits.
This week the music from Epidemic sounds is called Ballad of Monson
Thank you for watching!

I am 77. Nov 1st I had a stroke. Thanks be to God it was a mild one. Eye opener for sure. Then about Jan 12 my older sis (83) ,was hospitalized with Covid 19. I have started clearing my stuff. If I haven't used it in a year it is gone. I have filled over 60 bags and boxes and donated 40 to charity and rest to family. I don't want anyone to have to deal with my stuff Also downsized my furniture. So freeing. My sister was released from hospital today..still must quarantine for awhile. Hope you all are well.

Hi Kate! I never leave comments on YT...but I can’t help myself this time! First I want to say how much I enjoy your channel. It never fails to brighten my day and inspire me. It never ceases to amaze me the list of your talents! It makes me ask “is there ANYTHING this woman cannot do? Congratulations on your decluttering...I am in the same process and I’m ready to hit a section of my ‘creative’ space after watching your video...so thanks for that! You know how excited you get when you get a new jelly roll of fabric and see the potential in the strips of cloth? Well I’m that way when I see home design opportunities. I watched you clear your shelves and tell the stories of your pieces and wanted so MUCH to be with you to ‘stage’ your lovely pieces (kinds like you play with the arrangement if your quilt pieces to get that beautiful harmonious pattern on a quilt), it would be so fun. Love your talent, your content and work! You’re a bright spot in my week... XxOo Julia

It makes me so sad when grown up children/relatives don't want to have things passed down via generations, I had no family to give me anything so I've made it a tradition that I like to go in charity shops and browse all the dishes & old tea pots ,cups & sauces you name it but it has to be old and have something about it, I love imagining who once loved the tea sets & old knife&fork sets, tea strainers all kinds of things, ppl don't realise how lucky they are to have family to pass on precious things to them, my daughter now has a massive lot of all kinds of everything 😃 teapots & tea sets are my favourite, I lend them to ppl also when they are having afternoon tea party's or such like VE celebrations it's brilliant.

I found that starting with my late husband’s clothes and his food hoard has made it easier to move on to my clothes and treasures after he died in October I cut out sugar and processed food so he and I helped many people who were going through hard times I couldn’t tell you how many bags of home cooked soup and casseroles plus the boxed, canned and bottled food went on to bless people in need. I wonder if you took pictures of your treasures would they spark any memories of the people who once owned them? I have my China cabinet decorated with a few treasures one shelf is empty so I have been able to let go of gifts, family things that are unwanted by our son and our extended family. We had two refrigerators and a large freezer so it took some time to empty them the freezer is with a nephew now ,as is my dining room set, 10 chairs and a buffet that matched the table and a corner cupboard that coordinated I have pretended that I an going to move in to a tiny apartment what would I want to take. I have also vowed never to be the one who always cooked the big feasts and was left with the clean up.so it has been easy to pack up the cloths placemats the silverware and all the plates. Not only the house has lost weight I have lost my COVID-19 weight . I wish you all that is best This comment is likely a jumble I hope that I have given you some ideas that might lessen your burden.

Oh Kate, please get one of those stepping stools. Everytime you climb up on a chair, my heart stops. So I put you on pause and went and dug out my bead box and I am going to sort through them while you clean the cupboard. I have also been gathering interesting papery things (haha) because I want to make a journal/book. I have always wanted to make a book I think. The inside of many of our utility bill envelopes have the neatest black or blue designs in them. Anyway....you tidy and I will make that necklace I promised myself.

I think I need to get a dark chocolate jar. I have some older jars & bottles I earned from my neighbor. I babysat for her & couldn't except money, but, I told her I would like to have some of the rejects her husband dug up from the manor house dump{ I don't remember what he called it, but he dug out all these old items from an area about 6 feet down @ the edge of their garden}. We lived @ RAF Fairford UK & she had told me had some rejects & he didn't need them. So, I'm going to make one my chocolate jar!!! I need to bring them out & start using all of them. You have encouraged me to get them out & use them. Thanks for all you do for us on the long green sofa... Brenda in NC, USA. Your videos showed up after I watched some hexagon videos.

You do have some lovely things Kate and it's no wonder you find it hard to get rid of some of them! I am doing the same thing and trying very hard to de clutter my home. It has been a great challenge but mentally it feels great to have some empty shelves and drawers. I am doing this job as I don't want my children to have the job once I am gone! My dad died a long time ago and ten years later when my mum died I found that she had kept everything- including all my dad's stuff! It was a long and arduous ( and upsetting ) task to go through all the stuff they had accumulated over a life time. My children will hopefully be glad that all that will be left for them to do - is very little- that is the plan!!

I would’ve had such a difficult time parting with those treasures, too. I love pottery as well, and the large bowls are my weakness! I enjoyed your darling kitchen and fun tour through the memories. Didn’t feel long at all! Thank you 😊

You look lovely in your necklace Kate. Great job tiding today. Never apologize, never explain---we all have areas like this in or houses. It's from living a gracious life. Loved seeing you, take care until next time. OX

Never apologise - never explain - years ago, I took down a cupboard that left a big space painted the wrong colour for the room and my daughter, Martha, painted that phrase in the space - knowing it would be painted over - I lived with it for a few weeks then did the repaint. I obliterated the words 'never' and so for a few days the command .... 'Apologise! Explain!' was on the wall - ha ha ha!!! xxxxx

Wow you have made some beautiful pottery for sure. Love to see your handiwork. Your kitchen is so cozy and warm. I just love it. Thanks for taking us along when you clean your shelves. I usually do mine in the Spring but maybe since it is snowing and dreary here too that maybe I should do it now.

You never need to worry about the time of a video I really love watching and listening to you. Thank you for showing all the snow in your garden it’s so beautiful, where I live we really only get 2 of the 4 seasons that we should get . In this video you showed a amazing beautiful tea set that was your Mums , I also have a very old tea set that was been handed down it was originally my Nana’s Mother’s, I tried to hand it down to my first born and she said no Mum I love it so much but I fear breaking it .Kathleen ❤❤❤

January 31 2024 Maryland USA: First how lovely you look with the necklace which I love that combination. Your glass bead lamp is something I would love to do for two granddaughters. One is 4 years and the other 20 but I know both will like it. The ceiling beams add so much charm to your home. The weather outside of your door is beautiful but I am siding with you to stay inside with the exception you must feed your chicken. That is too cute “where to put you”😊Your video’s are perfect with content and time is perfect. Not all boring. Exactly with the apron!!!

Kate! You offered all of us on the LGS a sweet and just as we were all reaching out to grab one, you pulled them away...........get a grip girl! The snow at the start looked so beautiful and here in Norwich we actually had some snow on Saturday bu it soon melted away. I love how everything has a story to it and how you treasure every piece on your shelves which John made for you. I think your own handmade pottery is so beautiful. I love anything in that style. I notice with myself whenever I watch a video of somebody having a tidy up or a clear out I always end up doing the same thing myself. Last year when I was going through my food store cupboard, I found a jar which said use by 1998. Needless to say it went in the bin. I noticed your necklace too and have to say it looks great on you. Have a safe and lovely week.

Looks like my daught'er's idea of her dream snow home. We live in Texas so have January-Feb days where it will sleet(rarely snow) and be in the low 30sF and the next day 65 and sunny. Beautiful and cozy being inside and reorganizing. I'm waiting for a rainy day so It may be awhile.

I loved this video Kate...especially the little stories about some of your pieces. John did do a beautiful job building that shelf unit for you. His design is so eye catching with the hanging pieces and the little drawers. It looks lovely as does Rita who has assumed residence guarding Mom's dishes. Thanks for taking us along on your journey. Have a Blessed day.

Kate, dearest. When you get up on that chair, my heart skips a beat. I think ,”she is going to topple over and break a bone “. Wait for Anna to do that. Now don’t I sound bossy.
