Watch as I trim the basket I made at the beginners workshop in Wooler this week. And while I talk about how my pottery all looks a bit the same despite being many different sizes and styles!
I’m having fun

Looks like pottery would be fun to do. My daughter and I took classes painting pottery and they were fired in a kiln. Many years ago now. I still have the Santa and Mrs Claus we did. I put them out at Christmas time. I so enjoy your videos, Kate. And guess what? I sewed my two sides to the dog and realized after that they did not fit together. Yes, you’re right! Did them both the same. Some days my brain feels like parts have gone missing. Oh, well. What a job to take apart. 🥴🤪

Oh I love the idea 60 things in your 60th year! Unfortunately I've passed that milestone. I took a a pottery class in College years ago and loved it. Always wanted to do more - not many classes offered near where I live but will keep my eyes open. Also took a weaving class years ago and really enjoyed that but had no space for a loom where we lived then. Took a basket making class when my children were little and made lots for gifts - only kept one for me. Took a lampshade making class with my Mother in Law years ago too - We had fun w/ that - also made lots of presents. I love learning new crafts and skills.

I admire your pottery...very clever to glaze everything the same. I have never noticed that everything is a different size. There are so many uses for small bowls. My daughter always gives me large assortment of small, mismatched pottery bowls when she delegates me to make the mirepoix for the complicated French menu she loves to create for family holiday dinners. I have a collection of small pottery pitchers that I use when making tea for my friends (some, like me, like whole milk, others prefer skim milk and one friend, who we swear was a kitty in another life, prefers cream). That way, the table is not cluttered with large containers with people waiting their turn while their tea becomes tepid. Recently, I found that I needed a small bowl to hold my rectangular pieces for my EPP dog!

This vid warms my heart. Reminds me of my crafty friend from age of 5. We magically were having our children at the same time. We would meet midway between our homes to do some classes - sewing children’s clothing, quilting, felting, embroidery - what ever took our fancy. We always talk of doing such again though now we live 5 hours apart. Thank you for reigniting this passion.

Hi Kate. I was taught to make baskets years ago so I could teach the basics to the residents in the aged facility I worked in. I too really enjoyed doing it. The Last Homely House East of the Sea I love that we have the same hair color and haircut...and that we are most likely from the same generation, although on different continents. I too have woven baskets and, more recently, coconut fronds. I love to knit, weave, sew, quilt, make glass mosaics, and do clay hand-building, slab construction, and slip casting. Absolutely cannot settle on one thing and have always admired those who can and do. (Btw, I love your aesthetic of using the same two glazes on your dinnerware. Very smart. Very soothing. Very pretty.) This next 10 weeks I’m taking a Make-Your-Own-Ukelele class. haha! If I can tune the finished product, I’ll play you a tune! 🥰 Hope you and Norma are well. God bless.

Oh, Kate! I had no idea how long it takes to make a basket, but yours are lovely for your first and second. I mean I guess it depends on how large the baskets are, and how intricate your design is. Pottery, too,eh? You seem to never waste a moment. 60 things in a year? What fun to play every day. I’ve seen pottery in your style for about fifty American dollars per piece here on the web. Yikes! I almost bought 4 large bowls for salads, but then I came to my senses. Keep creating and sharing!

You are so clever. I always look at local courses and then ask my sister if she wants to go but she always says they’re too expensive or fattening (artisan bread making!) so I never go ☹️. Maybe I should just go on my own. It’s not usually as much fun but I would be learning something new. Are you planning any quilting courses? I looked at your website but couldn’t see any dates, was I looking in the right place? Thanks as always for an entertaining video.
