Best thing about Mike Brewer and WD is that he showcases all these tiny workshops in the UK, where you can get anything repaired or made. We get told that we import everything from China but that is absolutely not the case and you don't have to go to the main dealers and get ripped off. The UK is still a centre of engineering excellence.

Well said but it shame that our government have been sell outs for last 50 years and it left too small companies that are feeling the squeeze with the cost of energy etc! But yes he has showcased some excellent contacts for anyone repairing classic cars with no longe available parts there is hope some companies that can help!

Mike's comments about the mini are absolutely bang on. Our (newer) 91 mini cooper is the only car that has ever made me laugh out loud, at the same time as my head bounced off the roof, due to the insane speed it was possible to carry through bends and on a bumpy road. My wife following, and unable to keep up in a modern saloon, literally couldn't believe her eyes. It's been off the road now for a decade but we can't part with it. As for that MGA, wow, absolutely beautiful and re-engineered properly too.

Not sure how Brewer ever made a career out of selling cars. From watching many wheeler dealers, he’d buy shit boxes, Ed China would do all the graft, Brewer would turn up at the end, get offered half what he’d advertised the cars for. He’d then say “put your hand out” and shake on a deal making him 50 pence profit, which doesn’t include the cost of Ed China’s hard work. I don’t understand it.

Mike, Mike... You're only half-right on the 912E. It's a 1976 model year, not 74. The engine used was the 2-liter from the later 914, not the Bus. (Check the cylinder heads versus Bus heads.) The fuel injection was based on that used in the US-spec 1.8 liter 914, which did start in the 74 model year, but most of the FI parts are unique to the 912E. The 912E was made as a stop-gap entry-level car after the 914 was done, and before the 924 was introduced. The "E" stands for "Einspritz", which basically means "fuel injected".

MGA, I remember the very first one I saw in Germany, in 1963, when I was 13 years old. A GI had it in the building where we lived in a little German village. When it appeared, I looked it over closely and saw the little oval vents on the hood and the Twin Cam badge. Had to ask the owner what a twin cam was and he did answer but don't remember what he said. Always remembered that car though.

I just recently told a guy at work about the time I drove my then brand new Rover Mini Cooper(RSP) one of the first 1000 re-released down to Brighton to have the "S" conversion pack fitter. 9hours from Glasgow with a 4 speed box was an adventure. Even more so as I got to meet thee "John Cooper" himself & have a little yarn.

Brewer in his natural habitat is a joy to watch - he’s a really really enthusiastic about his cars and feels more genuine than the more scripted WD stuff! Really enjoyed this! And that 912 and the transit are beautiful! 🤩

Jonny, thanks for letting your interviewees talk. So many interviews are done by overzealous over-talkers that don't allow their conversation to flow naturally. You obviously are genuinely interested in the conversation which really shows. Keep up the excellent work!

I hope Mike won't take offense at this, but he's come across to genuinely nice here, much more than his wheeler dealer shows. Nice to see what I believe to be his real side here. Great garage and tour!

Mike is such a polarising character, but this video did really well to highlight why he is a LEGEND of TV. The spat with Ed didn't help the PR and I think quite unfairly at times, but he remains one of the most influential car guys on TV and in the media that the UK have ever seen. His sheer enthusiasm, knowledge and legendary story telling abilities mark him out as a man to be respected and enjoyed. He won't enjoy me saying this but he has become one of the elder statesmen of the automotive world and that is a position, that in my eyes, he should cherish. An absolutely top notch episode again Jonny ... even if you did ignore me on Insta when I tried to get last minute tickets to the Car Barn in Beamish the other night as you were local to me haha ;-)

Likes to talk about how busy he is and how much he owns. I couldn't give less of a toss. Meet plenty of blokes like this. They don't spot you've glazed over or have nothing to say about it that they don't already tell themselves in the mirror.

22:00 funny - I drive a Defender 110 and I find that instead of abuse, people are actually _extra_ polite to me on the roads. I am let out of junctions more regularly, people happily give way to let me pass, and quite often people will come up to me to talk about my Land Rover. I never get _any_ abuse in it. Now, when I drive me regular runabout car, that's a totally different experience on the roads.

I have the same experiences whenever I drive mine, which is actually the rather sad looking one on the show. My wife and I managed a 2,204-mile European tour over three weeks last summer. Mike very generously offered to store it and suggested a repair shop, after my wife and I ran into some issues with the immobilizer in western Scotland. Now that she's running properly again, ( the Landy, not the wife), we can address the neglected bodywork and respray, although Mike suggests leaving it as is. I bought it from my sister in Wicklow after my Brother in Law sadly passed on. So I have a feeling we are going 'all in' on properly restoring the td5 Landy.

Ed China was/is a straight honest bloke. Chalk and cheese. My mate a dealer, used to see Brewer as a colleague down at Blackbushe, in his words, Straight as a nine bob note. Brewer can now afford to be, a nice guy. Did you know, they`ve deleted the word, `gullible ` from the dictionary.

I still can't warm to him, sorry. A ton of mistakes too, about cars he actually owns. His '84 'SC' that he mentions is actually a Carrera 3.2. His 912E isn't a '74, it's a '76, they were all '76. He's got some nice stuff, I should love him, I really should; he's a scooter boy, a poor boy made good, great taste in Porsches, but he just sets my teeth on edge. Maybe if he started pronouncing the letter 'L' I could try and make a new start with him
