Rebuild that leaky or frozen fuel tap shut off valve or petcock. No need to replace the entire fuel tap. The internal grommets and gaskets are common across many small engines for generators, go-karts, mini-bikes, scooters, mopeds and other small engines.
The tools I like and use most often:
Magnetic spark plug socket set: amzn.to/3CzmpvO
Tachometer: amzn.to/3sHibiH
Vessel Megadora JIS screwdriver set: amzn.to/363RFqO
Channellock Bent Needle-nose pliers: amzn.to/3I5DbnA
Long 1/4 Quick-connect Torx Driver Bits: amzn.to/3HUNgnm
Spark Tester: amzn.to/3CxW2qi
OTC Leak-down Test Kit: amzn.to/3CyUhJn
Compression Tester: amzn.to/3IWd6sp
Wear your safety glasses, or you'll put your eye out. Try on some gloves. Take off that spark plug boot. Clean your room. Open the windows, those fumes are nasty. Just 'cause I do it, don't think it's the end all, be all solution. There's plenty more ideas out there, I can't take responsibility if you slice off a few fingers after watching my videos. And don't just pour that toxic stuff down the sewer or in the ditch, dispose of waste responsibly. Just be safe, OK?

The shut off valve on my moped is at the bottom of the tank, kind of like what’s shown at 0:029 for the generator. In order for me to do this repair, I assume I’d have to purge the tank of fuel before I would be able to disassemble the tap. I did have a leak in mine earlier in the season. The small plastic hose that connects the tap to the fuel line has a lip on it, presumably to stop the fuel from leaking. I was able to put a tiny o ring on to that lip and tighten all down, which stopped the leak. I’ve never seen a repair of the actual tap itself, so this is great to know. Thanks for the instruction.
@TheLawnmowerLady
@TheLawnmowerLady 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Ms Inisfad! Sounds like you took care of your leak with that o-ring. Signs of internal problems could be things like fuel leaking from the carb overflow ports when the fuel tap is off, indicating the internal grommet is damaged and allowing fuel to pass on to the carb, despite the tap being in the off position. Another problem caused by damaged grommets is restricted fuel flow, more of a concern however, on 2-strokers. Yes, you would need t drain the tank before trying to replace that grommet. That said, sounds to me the internals are OK on yours? I like the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" 🙂 Cheers!

Thank you Mr Rooster! I do have to spend some time hunting the correct ones. If I recall, i actually went to my local Suzuki motorcycle shop for that little one. The complete fuel tap was obsolete, but the innards were available (I'm guessing since they would use them in multiple bikes over many years) I've had the best luck at independent scooter and moped shops. It's a crap shoot for sure on getting one that fits, but often cheaper in the long run. Thanks for watching! 😘

I have one of those Gou Ying fuel valves on a generator that's leaking. I might just drill out the rivets, drill through and use small bolts to put it back together. I have done rubber gasket paper and can fashion a new seal for it. I know they're cheap, but if I get a new one, it's liable to do the same thing. Mine wasn't frozen or old (less than 1-year). It might just be defective. I'm assuming when I get it open, there will be metal slag on it from casting. We'll see how it goes. 😉👉

@@garyclifton2180 It certainly doesn't help. Less air in the intake will cause the ECU to deliver more fuel. Some folks claim pulling the negative lead for a few hours re-sets the ECU. Won't hurt to do either one of both. Good luck!

Thanks for watching Mr Cliff. Depends on what your are trying to repair. I went to the Suzuki dealer to get that fuel grommet for that small motorcycle. Once you know the dimensions of the grommet, you will need to do some parts diagram searching, keep an eye our for moped shops. I have used a moped part for a generator. Once you get into the newer imported machines, it gets more difficult to find the right parts. Cheers!

@LUNARIAproject Жыл бұрын
I purchased a 2006 model moped recently and it ran quite bad on high RPM and especially in 4th gear and wanted to die after a while so I took the carb apart and noticed that the petcock never shut off the fuel even though it is in off position. So I took it apart and noticed the gromet inside was quite worn, I made a new out of cork material but to no avail, the fuel just goes directly from the tank through the petcock and down the carburetor, I just poured a little fuel into the empty tank to test it, I have a transparent hose so I could see it pass straight through the petcock no matter what position I put it in, so I took it apart again and made a new gromet that only had 2 holes (originally it has 3) this time the fuel didn't come through at all, but it didn't pass through when I turned the arm either so still not usable. I really wonder what could be wrong? So the hole on the right was the one I shut off and the fuel didn't come out at all. I really wonder if I could fix it somehow, or is something else causing this problem you think?
@TheLawnmowerLady
@TheLawnmowerLady Жыл бұрын
You need to measure the grommet, and look for another at a moped shop. You need to get one with the same number of holes. Worse case is just buy another fuel tap all together. Thanks for watching.
@LUNARIAproject
@LUNARIAproject Жыл бұрын
@@TheLawnmowerLady Thanks for the reply, OK so you think a new gromet would do the trick even though the one I made out of cork didn't? I noticed on the rubber gromet there are some lips around the holes, are those the thing that makes it stop the fuel from going? And also, the holes what purpouse do they serve, is the fuel going through those holes or is it air that goes through it to open up which passage to let through the fuel "in the back" or enclosed pipe?
@TheLawnmowerLady
@TheLawnmowerLady Жыл бұрын
@@LUNARIAproject Those holes direct the fuel flow to the correct circuit.
@LUNARIAproject
@LUNARIAproject Жыл бұрын
@@TheLawnmowerLady Ok I understand, so would it be possible to block the passages of some of the holes so that lets say only the reserve would work so the other ones would be turned off? I have the reserve at top, if I block the holes with something would that work ou think? And if so what could I use to block it?
@TheLawnmowerLady
@TheLawnmowerLady Жыл бұрын
@@LUNARIAproject Not sure I understand. Turning the fuel tap to the reserve position (assuming you have a working fuel tap) blocks all the other passages. No need to block any other passages.
