The newest video in my editor reacts to series. This week I'm watching and reacting to Game of Thrones for the first time.
While Bran recovers from his fall, Ned takes only his daughters to King's Landing. Jon Snow goes with his uncle Benjen to the Wall. Tyrion joins them.
Nine noble families fight for control over the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for millennia.
Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for HBO. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, a series of fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin, the first of which is A Game of Thrones. The show premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011, and concluded on May 19, 2019, with 73 episodes broadcast over eight seasons.
Set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, Game of Thrones has a large ensemble cast and follows several story arcs throughout the course of the show. The first major arc concerns the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros through a web of political conflicts among the noble families either vying to claim the throne or fighting for independence from whoever sits on it. The second focuses on the last descendant of the realm's deposed ruling dynasty, who has been exiled to Essos and is plotting to return and reclaim the throne. The third follows the Night's Watch, a military order defending the realm against threats from beyond Westeros' northern border.
Game of Thrones attracted a record viewership on HBO and has a broad, active, and international fan base. Critics have praised the series for its acting, complex characters, story, scope, and production values, although its frequent use of nudity and violence (including sexual violence) generated controversy. The final season received significant criticism for its reduced length and creative decisions, with many considering it a disappointing conclusion. The series received 59 Primetime Emmy Awards, the most by a drama series, including Outstanding Drama Series in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019. Its other awards and nominations include three Hugo Awards for Best Dramatic Presentation, a Peabody Award, and five nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Drama.

Hey guys two things 1: I used to do these little intro bits for my Buffy and Angel reactions. I did them for every single episode but by the end of the shows it was becoming super stressful trying to think of new intros to do. I do enjoy making them and I wanna make them for Game of Thrones too but not for every episode. I don’t wanna commit to that but if I have a good idea then i will do it for that episode. 2: I know a lot of people told me to watch the show with subtitles on and yes you are right because they would help me out a lot with names and places and general information, however when subtitles are on i will read them regardless if i’m understanding what the characters are saying or not. I’m also a pretty quick reader, so reading ahead would ruin the tension of some scenes or even some jokes. With reactions timing is crucial and if i’m reading ahead and am reacting to something even before the characters had a chance to say it, it would be super jarring for you guys. The good thing is you always let me know about the stuff i’ve missed plus i can go slow and pay super close attention to the episodes while i’m editing. Even if i had subs on i’m sure i would still miss stuff on my first watch through, so i think me being in the moment with no subs is the better option and makes for a more entertaining reaction. Hope you enjoy the reaction :)

I'm a big fan of your little intro edits, so I'm glad that they'll be continuing, even if only intermittently! It's totally reasonable not to do one for every episode. I was frankly astonished that you managed it for Buffyverse. Sorry to hear that it was (unsurprisingly) such a source of stress. Also totally on board with the pros, cons, and decision in terms of subtitles, for whatever that's worth. The only exception would be if "subtitles off" means losing the subtitles for the stuff said in Dothraki, because that's dialogue you're meant to understand.

This is why I suggested to watch the lore videos before each season. At least the story of Roberts Rebellion and how he became king. So much confusion that does get explained the further you watch the show, but it helps to have the backstory told in an entertaining formation with great artwork.

I totally understand what you're saying about subtitles. I lived for a few years in Taiwan and American movies there are shown in the original English with Chinese subtitles. For me it was great because I could just enjoy the movie in English and ignore the subtitles. The problem was the rest of the audience would be reading the subtitles and, especially for comedies, they would laugh at a joke BEFORE the actor had finished saying the line. It was very odd when the whole theater was laughing and I didn't know what they were laughing at (and sometimes the laughter would drown out the audio and I'd miss the actual joke entirely). The other problem with reading subtitles is you can miss the visuals, especially things like the subtleties in actors' performances. Of course sometimes subtitles are unavoidable like when watching a movie in a foreign language and in those cases I prefer subtitles to a dubbed version of the movie. I'm having to deal with subtitles when watching the AMAZING "Shogun" TV series (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you haven't seen it!) which is mostly in Japanese. Of course I have to read the subtitles, but I'm always afraid I'm missing some of the visuals.

If you don't have moderators, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get moderators. GOT is an enormously popular show. It has many shocking developments and character evolutions and the fandom can be frankly retarded with spoilers and even just hints about future developments or over-explaining stuff. They will absolutely ruin this show for you if you don't have moderators to block spoilery comments. Even if they don't tell you outright who dies etc, they will preemptively explain relationships to you that you are not supposed to fully understand until much later. They are that fucking retarded. Please get a moderator if you don't have one.

If it helps at all, the girl who plays Sansa adopted her ‘wolf’ (large husky) & still has Lady to this day. So though her wolf died in the show, she stayed with her ‘owner’ and became a beloved pet that she loves. No, the old line of Targaryen only Dani & her jerk older brother survived. Robert was the head of his house, which was the nearest related to the Targaryen line. So he inherited cuz his grandmother was a direct descendant. It’s why Robert was so upset about Dani marrying a Horse Lord/Dothraki.

Technically Robert himself is a descendant of the first Targaryen King’s father. Aegon Targaryen’s best friend, one of his generals, and rumored bastard half brother, Orys Baratheon. Orys killed the Storm King during the Targaryen conquest, but then married his daughter. Also, Robert is a second cousin of Daenerys, Viserys, and Rhaegar, as his grandmother was Princess Rhaelle Targaryen, and thusly also a descendent of Aegon the conqueror himself. This relationship with the Targetyans is one of the rationales for him taking the throne himself after Robert’s Rebellion.

The show is never going to explicitly go over this, but the Stark kids' wolves are the same genders as them. Robb's is called Grey Wind. I don't think the show ever says his name. Jon's is called Ghost. In the book, this was partially because he didn't make any sound no matter what, but this does not carry over to show Ghost. Sansa's, as you've seen, is Lady. Arya's is Nymeria, named after the legendary warrior queen of the Rhoynar. Bran's doesn't have a name yet, and naming it was a big deal in the book because he couldn't think of a good one and took longer than his siblings to name his wolf, but I don't think they even say his name until season 3 in the show. So I don't think it's a spoiler to say his name is Summer. and Rickon's is Shaggydog.

Time for the unpopular take of the episode: Sansa takes a LOT of shit for her actions in this episode, but she's trying to de-escalate the satiation the whole, and even at this young age she realizes something that Arya completely fails to comprehend: that regardless of the fact that Jeoffry is being a little shit, he's also the prince, and antagonizing him further has absolutely no other outcome than making things worse.

I completely agree. she's trying to keep the peace, and either expected to be married to Joffrey, or already engaged to him. she's not giving evidence in either direction, she's saying she can't remember, which is a pretty fair-minded approach for a 13-year-old.

Bastards recognized by noble parents have different surnames depending on the region they live in, but sometimes it depends on where the noble father or mother is from. In the North they are called Snow; In Riverlands they are called Rivers; In the Vale they are called Stone; In the Westerlands they are called Hill; In Reach they are called Flowers; In the Crownlands they are called Waters; In the Stormlands they are called Storm; In Dorne they are called Sand; In the Iron Islands they are called Pyke. @@RielMyricyne One future event that happens in a subsequent episode its when Jon rhetorically asks another character why his name is Snow. It is only then that the show reveals to viewers the reason. There is no ned to be aware of that information before that moment in the show, and indeed the writers of the show did not intend for the viewer to know it until that precise moment. Shows are not just made of crude plot, but character development, as well as the revelation of their characters to the viewer at the pace set by the people who made the show. The question and revelation of that information in the scene with that other person is supposed to elicit feelings and thought in the viewer at that time, and if the information is already in their heads, it does spoil the show. Spoiling a shows pacing and spoiling plot points are not the same thing, but both are spoilers. maybe the word spoil is a bit strong, but it certainly detracts from the the viewer experience, as that experience was intended by the writers and creators.

So the whole King deal though I see others have touched on it: For centuries Westeros (The place with the Starks and Baratheons) was ruled by the Targaryans who are the Dragon people. They rode Dragons and as a result conquered the entire continent. Over time and 2 civil wars the Dragons died leaving the Targaryans as Rules but no longer Dragon Riders. A man named Aerys (Dany and Vis' father) took the throne. While he started out as a good king he went mad and became known as the Mad King. Eventually he killed Lord Rickard Stark and his heir Brandon Stark after his son and heir kidnapped Lyanna Stark (The Daughter of Rickard). Brandon and Rickard came to demand justice and were executed. The Mad King then sent his armies to the Vale of Arryn to demand Rickard's Son (Ned) and Lyanna Fiancé (Robert) be handed over. Lord Arryn (The dead hand in episode 1) refused and declared war. Robert bannerman joined along with the North (aka the Starks) and through a marriage agreement that married Ned to Cat and Lord Arryn to Lyssa the Riverlands also joined. This is referred to as "Robert's Rebellion". The Rebels won, The King and his Heir were killed (as well as Lyana), the heir by Robert and the king by Jamie Lannister. Because Robert was the lead rebel commander and because his family can trace itself back to the royal line through his grandmother he was made King. That basically covers the pre show politics leading to a new Royal Family (Which Cersei Lannister married into and has had 3 children (4 counting the one that died of Fever)) and Jon Arryn was made Hand of the King which is the second most powerful person in Westeros.

People can take the throne in two ways, by succession or by taking it. Jamie Lanister was Kinsguard to the old Targaryen King. But after that Kings son took Roberts wife-to-be (neds sister). Robert (House Baratheon) and Ned (House Stark), along with other houses, went to war against the Targaryen King. The Lannisters were allied to the Taragryens, but seeing the Bartheons and the Starks winning the war, they switched sides. Jamie Lannister then killed the Targaryen King, and Robert became King instead. King Robert then married Cersei from House Lannister to solidify the Lannisters loyalty to the throne and appointed Jon Arryn as hand to the King. Jon Arryn was then murdered and now Ned has been asked to take his place. Hope that sorts out the King issues for you.

If Cersei had her way Arya would have had one of her hands lobbed off. The scene the Stark Sisters auditioned for was cut or maybe never even shot. Book version Arya is scrubbing a filthy Nymeria with a brush while Lady was sitting clean and trimmed at Sansa'a side. Sansa said she was going to ride in the Queen's carriage and sit on pillows and eat lemon cakes. Arya could care less. Arya was running in the sunshine, points out there are no windows in the carriage and she is learning the names of several types of flowers and might even see a Lizard Lion. (alligator). There was something else Arya was hoping to find, but since it was not mentioned yet I'm keeping mum.

I have seen multiple reactors watch the pilot episode, and sooo many of them initially think it was the King who died, and that they are already setting out for King’s Landing when they are actually just going for a boar hunt. I had been meaning to read the books for some time when the show came out, and not wanting to have the books spoiled, I waited for several seasons before seeing the show, until I finally got around to the books. Of course now I am still waiting for GRRM to finish the damned books. Also, regarding the girl being sold to the pleasure house and not touching a man until she was twelve, almost all of the characters in the show have been aged up a few years. In the book Daenerys was thirteen when she married Khal Drogo, and was definitely NOT described as “having a woman’s body now,” as her brother put it while fondling her breasts.

❤Lexi lots of us went though the same emotions you are having..and believe it or not some Episodes no matter how many times I watch and of course know what's going to happened I still cry. I still cheer, I still laugh, I still close 1 eye and turn away at some scences, but I look at it all as a balance. You have to keep in mind it's a fantastic story and the acting, soundtrack, cinematography and most of all the dialogne is brilliant. A lotvof fans describe this Series as the biggest Rollercoaster Ride of Emotions. Lexi, you have only scratched the surface. The first couple of Season the budget was 6 Million per Episode, than it went to 10 Million and if I remember the last 2 or 3 Seasons 15 Million per Episode. The Series Won 57 Emmy Awards during its run time and several Episodes still hold extremely high ranking with Imdb. It's your Channel and it's your decision to continue or not... Just know the Community is with you on this journey. Take time when you need to but be cautious not not to go more than 2 or 3 weeks when you do need to take a step back if you feel the need. Channels had gone from less than 100 subs to over 8K subs only reacting to Game of Thrones in under 2 years and they still have not finished the Series. ❤❤Try and hang in there, I am enjoying you trying put things together piece by piece.❤❤

Enjoy this while you can. Once you hit the later seasons(after they run out of published books/start doing their own material rather than following the source), the story becomes quite garbage. However, the good news is I'll be with you along the way to give you notes and stuff from the book to enjoy! "You should stay!" Jon can't stay. His sisters and Ned are going South, while Lady Catelyn(at least in the book)says she won't let Jon stay, as he's Neds son, not hers. To clarify: The Mad King was not Robert's father. The Mad King, Aerys II, was the father of Viserys, Daenerys and Rhaegar Targaryen(Rhaegar you've heard mention of, as he took Lyanna Stark from Robert and she died before Ned could get her back, but not before a huge war was fought against a)the Mad Kings cruelty(he murdered Ned's father and older brother and then demanded Jon, the former Hand, turn over his charges(Robert and Ned)to him so he could execute them out of sheer paranoia.) Rhaegar died in a huge battle on the Trident(the river where Arya threw Joffreys sword)and Aerys was assassinated by Jaime Lannister(the Queen's twin brother). Ned painlessly beheads Lady in the book and its stated that each wolf is very much like their owner(with Lady being the most trusting), while Nymeria(named after a warrior queen)is disobedient like Arya. Ned also spites Cersei by sending Nymeria's body back to Winterfell, as Cersei wanted the wolfs pelt to gloat and Ned refuses to allow her to have Lady.

Concerning Jon Snow's name : in Westeros, children born out of wedlock don't get a family name, not even their mother's. Instead, they are given a "default" name, which depends of the region. "Snow" in the north, "Sand" in Dorne (far south), "Flowers" in the Reach (a very fertile land, center-south), "Hill" in the Westerlands (that's where the Lannisters are from), "Stone" in the Vale (that where Jon Arryn was from), "Storm" in the Stormlands (Robert's homeland), "Rivers" in the Riverlands (Catelyn's homeland) and "Waters" in the Crownlands (around king's landing), "Pyke" in the Iron Islands (Theon's home).

Hey, great video! Don't worry if you don't pick up a detail the first time. They will fill in the missing pieces eventually. One thing to note - they kept referring to the last king as the Mad King, not really a title for a stable leader. Do not worry for one microsecond about hating Joffrey. Sansa is really hard to like in this episode but remember, she has been raised to be a proper high lady and she thinks that marriage to a prince is her highest priority right now and she doesn't want to jeopardize that. She's also 12 or whatever.

When Jaime killed the last king it was considered just an act of War for Robert's side (Robert was waging war against the Targaryens) which is why Robert is now king. I can’t go into other details about the complexities of that situation without spoilers though.

ok so lets get some things straight here. The mad king (the one Jaime Lannister killed) was the father of Viserys and Daenerys. The mad king's brother abducted and raped Lyanna Stark (Ned's sister and Robert's love). When Ned's father and brother went to King's Landing to ask for their sister back, the mad king burned them alive and this started the rebelion of Robert and Ned. In this rebelion Robert killed the mad king's brother and they were marching towards King's Landing. Before they could reach though Jaime, A KINGSGUARD, killed the mad king.Viserys and Daenerys fled to Bravos and Robert took the throne. Ned went back to winterfell and became the warden of the North just like his father was... PS: Kat was supposed to marry Ned's brother but after he died she married Ned instead.

This is a very condensed summary. 17 years before this series, there was a rebellion. The Starks, Baratheons and Arryns rebelled against the King after the King's son kidnapped Ned's sister, and the King tortured and killed Ned's father and brother. The rebellion was nearly won when the Lannister's joined and Jaimie Lannister, who was one of the Kingsguard murdered the king. Two of the King's youngest children were carried away to the continent of Essos. After the rebellion, Robert Baratheon became the king, and appointed Jon Arryn his hand, and married Jaimie Lannister's twin sister, Cersei. When Ned Stark returned from the war, he carried with him a young child, his basterd son, who he named Jon. In the North, basterd children are all given the last name Snow, so he is Jon Snow.

PAUSE ON THE SANSA HATE! Let's keep some things in mind (no spoilers here!) Sansa is 13 (?) and the first girl. Her life has always been about making a politically advantageous marriage. That's her role as the first daughter. She's been raised on stories of chilvary and romance. Imagine growing up on those stories and what kind of expectations that would leave a child with? Now she's being told that this is her new husband, who will be King of the Seven Kingdoms! This is an upgrade for her and her family, a chance of a lifetime. If he's her betrothed, how can she speak against him? He is not only her husband, but her king! When she marries him, she will move to his castle. His family will be hers and speaking against the king? That could mean death. That's a lot for a 13yrold to juggle. Arya doesn't have to juggle any of this, so things seem far more black & white from her perspective, but this is Sansa's first time ever having to deal with the gray. She has the political weight of 7 Kingdoms and her family's hopes on her shoulders.

Lexi you hating on 13 year old Sansa and for what? Do you really think her saying what really happened would have changed anything? Joffrey is the crown prince and he was bitten. It doesn't matter that he was a little shit, he wouldn't have been punished but Cersei would still have called for a dead direwolf. Sansa was actually trying her best. She is just a child and she is about to get married off and she thinks that is what she wants because that's all the has been taught growing up. Making the best match possible.

That's probably much better since the names can get confusing especially when some of them sound alike. How was Martin able to juggle so many fictional names in his head? And how are some GoT fans now still able to remember all the tiny historical details and minutia of this show long after its been off the air? Its like they were prepping for a History Phd thesis, but never received their well earned doctorate.

Sansa was not on Arya's side at the river because Sansa was brought up as a future lady. She learned how a Lady should behave, what is proper and what is not. All her life revolves around being a Lady so she can one day marry a fancy Lord or maybe even a prince or king. The way Arya behaves is seen as very innapropriate for a woman/girl, especially from a powerful family like the Stark's. She doesn't learn proper housewife stuff, she plays with waepons and she even interacts in a "fighting match" with a commoner, she even calles him her "friend". We as the viewer might see this as no big deal, but it goes against everything in Westeros tradition. From Sansa's point of view, Arya behaves like a rebelling punk child that spits on everything the family stands for. She doesn't understand how and why her sister would want a different livestyle than she does. Also, Sansa could not take Arya's side when asked about the events. She has to stay loyal to the prince that is to be her future husband. She still doesn't rant Arya out, instead claims she "doesn't remember", to try to stay out of it.
