I started relearning French three months ago with Duolingo having lived in Montreal, thirty years ago, for two years. I enjoyed the French part of the conversation, and understood almost everything. She has a nice French accent, very clear. I am coming to the conclusion that the brain retains its ability to learn languages, and it does not disappear when you become an adult. The secret is to know how to feed it. It is though a very hungry beast. Today it is so much easier to learn a language thanks to the wealth of material on the web, including apps. Aujourd’hui, c’est vraiment beaucoup plus facile à maitriser une langue qu’autrefois, grâce aux resources qui nous sont disponibles en ligne. Quand j’avais dix sept ans, j’ai acheté un ordinateur avec 16 kb de mémoire, wooah, c’était génial et tellement puissant. 🙂

Hello Steve, As you can see my profile photograph, this account was meant to be a language channel like yours but I'm slothful nowadays, listening to the content on LingQ... I am a Turkish teenage at almost the age of 16 who can speak Turkish as the maternal language, English-French well and Spanish as intermediate. If possible, I'd like to have a conversation with you like that. Ah bon J'ai presque oublié, t'es aimé depuis Balikesir / Turquie. Vive long Steve, t'as un personnage très intéressant et on aime t'écouter. Ton français est très clair et tu es un des personnes rares qui Je peux TOTALEMENT comprendre quand elle parle. Merci pour tes efforts, il n'y a pas beaucoup de personne comme toi sur Terre :)

Thanks Steve. I'm beginning with French. Using lingq...I understood alot without much effort...The speed wasn't a problem. Simply lack of Vocab. Certaib words ive only read a few times like "mot" stood out due to context. "Vit" also stood out. AND i understood the most important thing which was the message to her students. That in a week or two we'd understand more. Watching your videos keeps me motivated to keep learning.

I agree with you, there is still a lack of intermediate content, especially podcasts. it's quite difficult to find "Optimal Input" that is both interesting and suitable (both in terms of audio speed and vocabulary) for lower-intermediate learners.

It’s on a faster side, but certainly not too fast. But I am also happy with my compréhension orale, I understood pretty much every word (not talking about context).
3 жыл бұрын
@ c'est super ! But what do you mean by not talking about context? I didn't get it
3 жыл бұрын
@ I mean sometimes when natives speak fast/super fast you dont hear every word isolated because they cut their words/phrases (e.g. peut être becomes ptet). This just makes the comprehension way harder. When i listen to Steve and Charlene they speak "standard French" but go listen easy french people on the streets i get lost how fast they speak and don't pronounce half of the words. And it's the same language lol So yeah my point is, even though you can not always understand each word you can often get it from the context. But it is encouraging to know that you are making some progress, so that is 👍🏼 Like Steve always says, everything is just noise at the beginning and then gradually it starts making sense.
3 жыл бұрын
@ that's so true. This happens to me as well, I also watch Easy French ^^ good learning for you. By the way, what's your mother language? Mine it's brazilian portuguese
3 жыл бұрын
@ :) My native language is Croatian (it's a Slavic language). French is a challenge though. It just takes time, every language takes time if you want to attain B2 - C1. Depends where you live, time investment, languages you speak etc. Consistency and patience are the key 🙂

Hi Steve! I'm studying German on Lingq. Just finished my second month. I'm listening al least 1 hour a day at the moment and I was wondering: Is it best to listen over and over again the same lesson or to just listening different lessons/topics? Hope you can read this message! Thank you for the information you share
3 жыл бұрын
Stefano Loda Listen mostly new ones, then listen to the old ones while exercising/doing dishes/cooking etc you get the point. I mean there are no set rules. Mix it up with other learning methods and keep up the consistency. You will see results for sure.
@Music_RTV
@Music_RTV 3 жыл бұрын
Repeating the same lesson helps on memorizing the vocabulary, however it gets boring soon, and people tend to loose interest and motivation. I think the best way is to mix it up, like Bruno said above. Get exposed to new and interesting content and once in a while review some old lessons.
@patricioiglesias5346

I would recommend listening many times the mini stories and who is she, but mostly in the beginning. Once you have enough vocabulary to understand more interesting subjects, you should go ahead and explore harder lessons.

Salut steve. Quel conseil pouvez vous me donner.

If you practice listening, you will get better! It is challenging at first. LingQ enables you to read and listen to the same lessons. You can also slow down the lesson audio at first so you can hear it spoken more slowly and catch the individual words. If you are consistent with listening, and reading the accompanying transcript, you will develop a proper ear for the language. Anyone can do it, including you!

@@shelbysmith4909 I find reading what's being said has helped me tremendously, because my brain now knows what that sound signified because I know what the symbols on the screen signify. Then when I later hear the words without text, my brain has already made the transition from the slow and friendly learning to read in another language to the fast and unforgiving listening in another language.
