*Notice*
With our apologies for the duplicated content, here's the reupload of part 1 of our Discovery critique. CBS - as it has done on every Trek video we've uploaded - filed a baseless copyright claim on the original video.
Each and every one of the claims they've made - there are five or six now - have been overturned on review, but this process can take a month, during which videos we've spent weeks working on get no views.
They know this, which is why they make the claims. It's a very effective way of suppressing critical content, and KZfaq doesn't seem at all concerned that its corporate pals are abusing systems nominally in place to protect people who actually produce content for the platform.
Though we have appealed (again) their claims against the original video, we've taken the view that waiting a month for it to be overturned (again) plays into their hands. Therefore, we've re-uploaded the original video with a couple of minor tweaks to the footage.

Since we've now hit 1k subs, we're looking at ways to make a few pennies off the work we do here. To be perfectly honest, we're just glad to have you around, and that won't change. *The video*
Star Trek Discovery Season 4 concluded on Paramount+ this month. And it's... not good. It's completely lost track of the philosophy that defined earlier iterations of Trek - the Original Series and The Next Generation, particularly - while the writing remains as awful as ever, doubling down on all that was bad about the previous seasons while jettisoning what little was good about them.

What is the tragedy of NuTrek is that nobody will ever say "I want to become a scientist/astronaut/doctor because of those shows". It is the exact opposite of inspiring and that, to me, is borderline criminal.

The nutrek version of techno babble is absolute insanity. Makes it very unreachable, in old trek it always urged me to think of how the transporter, warp drive, etc actually worked. Since they were relatively consistent, it could be believed. This nu-trek doesn't invite real science or inspire any related aspirations.

"What is the tragedy of NuTrek" - I would add that NuTrek doesn't invite the viewer to think very deeply about any of the moral questions some of its episodes seem to ask, because when it answers those questions with the preferred solution of the writers, it does so with little; if any, serious debate or discussion. These answers are given with a degree of finality that makes any other point of view or thoughts demonized or made to look silly. So, NuTrek not only fails to promote STEM, it fails to promote critical thinking and debate.

Half black and half white people was subtle? 🤣 That was deliberately obvious and provocative, because ironically, the only place you could talk about the absurdity of race theory in 1969 was in a metaphor on a scifi show! Networks would not have touched a "serious" race topic like this with a 10 foot pole. Remember, there were only THREE networks. You did not risk alienating 1/3 of your audience.

I didn't grow up with Star Trek, I have no nostalgic ties to the characters or lore. I actually actively avoided it for a long time because I thought it looked cheap, and old fashioned, and seeing the banners on Amazon did nothing to change that perception. However during the covid lockdowns I started working from home and to pass the time while I worked I figured it was finally time to give Star Trek a shot. And I ended up watching all the series through Enterprise in just a few months. I found quickly that I didn't care that it wasn't action heavy, or that it was dated in its look, or that the sets and costumes sometimes looked cheap (especially starting out). I actually found that I loved listening to Picard give speeches about morality, and that I loved listening to them sit down and debate the dilemmas presented like mature professional officers. And most of all I loved that it was entirely dedicated to the characters being of the world they lived in rather than being modern humans shoved into a sci fi setting. So when I finally finished the series I obviously wanted more, and while I was dubious about STD because I was perfectly aware of what people said about it I decided to give it a shot. And in the first 10 minutes I was like "WTF is this?". It had no resemblance to any of the Star Trek I had just binged. And because I just watched it all for the first time you can't even argue I was looking back with rose colored glasses. The new shows look like trash, the characters are all completely unlikeable, nobody acts like a professional member of a pseudo military organization. Everyone is loud, and abrasive, and insulting, and they all talk like modern college millennials rather than highly educated officers. And the worst is obviously the lead lady, who in no way talks or sounds like a Vulcan, its insulting really. Worlds really can't describe how much I hated that show. I similarly tried to watch Picard but that was even worse. And even though I only recently became a fan of Star Trek, I can easily say that of all the franchises that have been ruined in recent years, including ones like Star Wars that I grew up on, the bastardization of Star Trek makes me the angriest of all.

I just watched Gambit, which is just a great example of what Star Trek is supposed to be. Really superb acting all around, especially Data and Worf, but I felt like there’s this moment where Picard starts giving orders to the marauders and it’s just so fucking real Star Trek that it makes me sick of the state of the current shows. The final message of the episode is this really intense scene where the villain tries to use the ancient Vulcan psionic weapon on everyone and Picard discovers that by not thinking violent thoughts that it disables the weapon, which is really so interesting, if presented in a bit of a cheesy way. The mythology of the episode says that the ancient Vulcans were a warring, hostile people, and that this weapon was immensely powerful, and that the only way to cancel it out was to have thoughts of peace to neutralize it, ushering in the peaceful, logic driven ideal that reshaped their entire society. It’s not only an awesome idea, and great for a casual viewer, but also deepens the mythology of a race that was very well developed by that time, all with a few well written lines of dialogue. As I’ve been rewatching a bunch of TNG, to cleanse my pallet of Picard, I’ve noticed that the episodes were about so many variations of fields. Not only astronomically centered episodes, but they also have episodes focused around the major sciences like archaeology, chemistry and biology as well as music and theatre, even how boring Data is at poetry, all of these deepened the characters and gave them the real depth that the current shows don’t even attempt. I guess that’s what I miss most about the old Star Trek, it was that the science was cool because they made it interesting rather than someone wearing a shirt that just says science is cool while they preach or cry, or both. And the crying, why must they cry in every episode of Discovery, I can’t imagine how this reads on the set with having to shoot so many crying scenes. Picard fucking died at the beginning of Gambit and even Troy doesn’t drop a tear, because she’s a professional and a Starfleet Officer. I’m not sure the crew of this show would be able to function if Burnham died, all I actually know about them is that they can all cry, have cried, and will cry about something else. Love the videos by the way, keep them coming, and fuck the censorship - fair use is clear cut in this case. Such exactly how it seems some people like to react, if they don’t like you, they try to cancel your voice outright. The TNG Picard wouldn’t have stood for that shit.
@TheLittlePlatoon
@TheLittlePlatoon 2 жыл бұрын
I think I remember that episode, actually. And you’re right. Even in its most average episodes it’s clear TNG sees itself primarily as upholding the best traditions of sci-fi. It sees the opportunity in its premise and its setting and it honours that opportunity. It’s really staggering - especially when you watch them side-by-side - how Disco has completely vacated that whole arena. Its writers not only don’t understand science or the point of science fiction, they’re completely disinterested by it. It’s not sci-fi, it’s psychotherapy in space.

@@TheLittlePlatoon That’s exactly how I feel as well. The funny thing is, I appreciate the older material so much more now. Maybe it’s with age as well, as I haven’t seen most of these episodes in easily 25 years, so I appreciate them in a different way, but it’s also so, so much more interesting to see actual characters deal with real conflicts that are smart allegories for real life rather than being preached to.

DS9s Far Beyond the Stars, put Sisko in the 1950's, as a black man who challenged pop science fiction writing at the time and wanted to write something more important. He wanted to put black characters in space, and wouldn't stop and so was fired. It interrupted his relationship with his girlfriend, led to his mental breakdown. Which shows the personal impact of segregation and discrimination in a very subtle way. But the reason why it's the best episode of Star Trek is not all that. It's because he used a dream of a story that described the characters of Deep Space Nine itself. In other words, Deep Space Nine is in itself a dream of a better future. And that is a profound realization that comes about when you watch this episode. That eventually we'd reach a future where that drama does not exist and that people are treated equally. And it is certainly not altogether true, and we are continuing to fight this pop science fiction BS today in Discovery, in Star Trek Picard, because there's too much action, too phasers, and not enough intelligent social criticism.

Aye, loved that episode. It was unifying to almost all political sides... Sisko being IMO the best captain in the ST EU helped. Contrast that to Picard which goes to 2021 and then attempts to depict America as a racist country -- a willfully divisive attack on one political side by insinuation... sad to see just how far the Star Trek content creators have fallen.

That was “The Outcast” that TLP mentioned in the video. There was also “The Host” which introduced the Trill. Crusher was in love with a man who was injured, then the Trill moved to Riker, and ultimately ended up with a female body. This one struggled with identity and the weirdness when it is not as expected. That’s about as deep as TNG ever got, though The Outcast was brilliantly done.

great example; I think the Episode not only tackles sexuality but in general Gender Identity - and that at a time when not many people thought about this (I wouldn't be surprised if this episode was written partly by persons who are Transgender or in other way having issues with their gender identity?) This is also a great example, because in this episode we can see Worf representing the "Conservative" (you could also say "bigotted") mindview of "I don't like them they are unnatural" -> and how do they treat Worfs view? - Troy tells him something like "Worf, thats very close minded of you" ; But they definitely let Worf have his Opinion, they don't call him an Androgynophobe, he doesn't lose his Job and is not cancelled ; because in Old Trek one of the most important values was to accept different opinions even if you disagree with them.

Wow one thing i liked about Discovery was most of the designs but they don't look 23rd century. Also the Sporedrive has so many inconsistencies, compare that to Gundam 00's GN drive and the Quantum teleportation. In Gundam it requires alot of particles to produce enough density to allow the swapping or linking of 2 areas of space, that's how the Gundam 00 Raiser, 00 Quan'T and the Sakibure mobile worker produce FTL. With Discovery the rules change constantly. Sorry for the rewrite I needed to rethink it for the reupload. I also think that in the 32nd Century the idea of Floaty bits and excessive glowing lines don't denote advanced technology it just makes it gaudy and impractical. with the writing tech design is equal to descriptive storytelling.

I don't usually comment on KZfaq videos, but your take on STD is so spot on that I'm inspired. It's so difficult to make it through a complete episode. I want to love this show. I'm sure if I saw a member of STTNG crew break down and cry I would have been filled with all kinds of emotions and empathized. The best shows, where you are invested, naturally elicit emotions due to the content... But every single episode of STD has somebody crying in it. And what's worse is that they go from one scene with a crew member crying to another. S4 E2 had like 10 minutes of crying at the end. So painful. I think I'm done... I'll watch your recaps until you say that the show hand reversed Jumping the Shark. Maybe they will get stuck in a time loop and go back to season 2 and retcon all the BS that's come since? Ds9 was probably my favorite series, it dealt with themes around war, politics, PTSD and morality. Here's a few episodes that I remember, haven't seen it in months at this point. DS9, Hard Time. O'Brien is implanted with false memories of being in prison. It, to me at least, was a brilliant episode that showed how even a Starfleet Officer (an evolved, enlightened human being) could be broken down mentally, murder someone over scraps of food, deal with PTSD and reintegration into society and ultimately learn to forgive himself for murdering a friend. It didn't matter that his friend ultimately wasn't real because he was very real to him. DS9, The Visitor. I just wanted to mention this one because it's amazing and actually made me cry. DS9, The Wire. This one is underrated imo. It deals with addiction and the underlying trauma that can cause it. It's a tiny line but it puts a new spin on the boy who cried wolf. Bashir is telling Garek about the boy who cried wolf and how the moral of the story is that if you lie enough, eventually people stop believing you and Garek is like Nah. That's not it. The moral is: Never tell the same lie twice. xD idk. I thought that was funny.

Careful- when calling out nuTrek simpletons, the REEEEE goes to 11. Excellent video. It’s my second viewing of it. One TOS episode that does address acceptance is the not-so-great episode of Plato’s Stepchildren… where Kirk helps ‘small person’ Alexander to see he is not to be marginalized for being different, small (and without telekinetic powers,) but to be appreciated for who he is. The episode ends with Alexander about to beam up to the Enterprise to (hopefully) begin a new life as an accepted person. (Accepted for being different.) That- in my opinion is the closest TOS ever got to diversity inclusion as a main plot line. Sorry to hear of the BS you are going thru.

Honestly I think that most of society aren't bothered- the issue is that nowadays, lgbtq and non white characters are written and shoved into media in such a way that it makes me think that screenwriters and filmmakers are trying to make the audience dislike them. Think Ruby Rose's Batwoman as a prime example. Anyway I really hope that this channel "blows up" because I feel that there's a need for a content like this.

As a beyond-conservative, extremely white, super-'straight' male getting on in years who doesn't agree with very much of the politics of new-or-old Star Trek, and yet who is a gargantuan fan of old Star Trek, it's safe to say that merely disagreeing with said politics is not why I hate new Trek. I hate new Trek because the politics is so moronic and heavy-handed. I may have disagreed, fundamentally, with the political, anthropological, and even metaphysical, premises of old Trek, but it challenged me in ways that I appreciated-I also adored its optimism. New Trek, on the other hand, just preaches---or rather screeches---at me and in such a strident, unexamined way that it's very easy to dismiss, and even easier to switch off.

I am so glad I found this channel. This video is perfect to provide people a link to when they ask what the problems are with Star Trek Discovery, granted most of them won't watch it anyway. I get asked that a lot as I'm very vocal about my distaste for the show (as well as most of modern Trek), but at this point we're four seasons in so my complaints are almost too numerous to remember offhand. It's nice to have a concise collection of issues ready to go, and in a format too accessible for a lazy person to have a legitimate reason not look into. Thanks, I can only imagine how long this video took to make lol.

I suppose the most obvious case of old trek doing politics well is the "first televised interracial kiss" of the TOS episode Plato's Children. The moral of the episode is that appearance doesn't matter, actions do. It gets a lot of hype for the kiss between Kirk and Uhura, but that largely seems to be a result of the actors commenting on NBC opposing the kiss. Supposedly the studio didn't want the actors lips to touch and was worried about TV stations in the south complaining. Except by all accounts there were almost no complaints about the episode despite it airing in 1967.

In Star Trek IV: The One with the Whales, I saw a a Black woman as a starship Captain. If I had been asked at the time how I felt about that fact I wouldn't know how to answer. I had no idea no idea it was a big deal because, to me, why wouldn't there be a Black, female starship Captain. In reruns of original Star Trek, I saw an integrated crew (much like my actual military service). It was presented as the way things ought to be, now let's go explore the galaxy. I'm not a professional writer, but I know the axiom "show me, don't tell me". New Star Trek product shows me, then tells me, then reminds me, and finally tells me how I should feel about it. Roddenberry was clever. He made a quality product that (usually) seamlessly incorporated social commentary. Discovery, et al. is ham-fisted commentary wearing a Star Trek skin suit.

There was an episode of DS9 with the following premise: Dax meets the current host of the symbiote that inhabited the spouse of one of Dax's own previous hosts. The symbiotes immediately recognize each other and clearly still have feelings for each other, but Trill law forbids them from becoming a couple again, presumably because if the symbiotes are allowed to stay mated to each other (through their hosts) it would limit their hosts' choices and growth. That both hosts in this case happened to be women wasn't even brought up as an issue.

That’s the plan! Happily these videos give me a chance to explain, not only why NuTrek sucks, but why Old Trek doesn’t. So I am trying to intersperse the criticism with positive counter-examples. Unfortunately, there’s just not much opportunity to be unambiguously positive when critiquing modern media, because there’s just not much positive out there. I’m thinking of starting an overrated/underrated series of videos, though, that give a bit more license to go back to old media in search of the good stuff. (I did one of these on the ‘78 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers back when we launched the channel.)

You might find some useful tools there that you can employ in your own critiques. Also, I think, like I think we should look to Sweden to understand where extreme progressivism goes politically, the media should look to comics to see where extreme progressivism is going to take them. ESG scoring, replacing merit as the measure of all things, and the eventual collapse of the modern West into "Mad Max" - which, at least as far as the attire is concerned, is going to be fun. As a life long leftist AND a Trekkie, I’m just starting this video and I like what I hear. A lot of modern “wokeism” rubs me entirely the wrong way. They’ve lost their materialist roots (after all, what’s more nakedly capitalistic than “luxury beliefs” backed by mega corporations as demonstrated by modern wokeism), and they’ve shown an alarming tendency towards the fascism and authoritarianism they claim to be against by viciously silencing any debate via the court of public opinion, crippling free speech and in some cases, advocating for book burning. My dislike of nuTrek goes beyond this though. It took a quietly contemplative show, focused on characters first and the message second, and turned it into a pandering, loud, stupid mess that doesn’t give a crap about characters or philosophy and tries to wow the drooling masses with frenetic CGI, explosions, blood and f bombs.

Most of TOS was about social criticism, some done well, others not so. Even Spock's Brain was about a society who gave it's authority to a master computer and became dumb and stupid - like us. Most of these shows were a condemnation of both single minded liberalism of the young and the racist conservatives of the old. Some of the most famous shows - like 'The Trouble with Tribbles' or 'Amok Time' say virtually nothing at all. The issues of drone warfare are covered in TOS 'A Taste of Armageddon', arrogance in small, third world countries caught in the cold war in 'Errand of Mercy', forced to provide equivalent arms to third world countries (pro Vietnam War maybe) in 'A Private Little War', peace is great, but only at the right time, otherwise it will lead to fascism taking over in 'City on the Edge of Forever', showing the foolishness of racism in 'Let That Be Your Last Battlefield', an immoral society aka The Running Man because Christ never appeared in 'Bread and Circuses', and many episodes on the necessity of struggle and hard work in 'This Side of Paradise' or 'The Apple', misguided hippies/cult memebers in 'Way to Eden', the futility and immortality of judging women by their looks in 'Mudds Women', Kirk famously quotes the constitution in 'The Omega Glory'.

It could also be a great example of Susskind's ER=EPR theory, but I somehow doubt that the writers even know what that is since they, at best, clearly have only a "science enthusiast's" understanding of science. TOS Arena splendidly shows how people of good will can, even in the direst situations, overcome their based instincts through reason and compassion both. TNG The Drumhead eloquently shows how virtue itself can turn into sin from excess and personal bias. DS9 The Valiant highlights the difference between duty and heroism on one hand and on the other pride and self-agrandizement. VOY The Void clearly shows how an ideal like the Federation can come about in an empty, dark, cold, brutal universe of sheer survival; litterally. ENT The Cogenitor displays in a very intimate way the value of the Prime Directive; of the folly of imposing one's values upon another people. Oh yes there are awful episodes too in Classic Trek; TOS Turnabout Intruder, TNG Code of Honor, DS9 Come Along Home, VOY Treshold, ENT These Are The Voyages. The problem with Nu trek since 2009 it's that we only get entire movies and seasons of these... in fact, worse than these in every metric. So much that a parody of it, The Orville, is hailed as the actual current Trek show! I wanted so much for Discovery and Picard to be good; all we got was turd in candy wrapping.

It IS aspin-off of DIS in both intent and content, giving the finger to TOS at every opportunity. Fortunately, the finale firmly set SNW (and DIS and soon LD) into the Abramsverse, not the Roddenbery verse. So they can have their Klingorcs, their monstergorns and their emo Spock. Enjoying your videos thus far. I may not agree with every point you make, but, much like MauLer (from whom I found your channel, so shout out to him, too, I suppose), you give well - reasoned, well thought out arguments for your positions. More importantly, you encourage actual debate; debate where people disagree, but present their positions rationally, without appeal to emotion or victimhood. Videos like yours are enjoyable to me because, although they can get me riled up, I can't point to anything you say and claim "well, that's just bullshit, because he's just injecting his moral/political/sexuality-based beliefs into the argument so he can win." They make me think about my opinions and positions, and challenge them. Sometimes, they stand up. Sometimes, they change. That, to me, is the whole point of debates, and anything that sparks that kind of honest self-reflection is a benefit to society. On a side note: Original Star Trek, as far as I remember, didn't, as you said, really touch on the sexual preferences of characters as issues - people were in (exclusively heterosexual, if I recall correctly) relationships - or not - and no real note was made of it. The issue with a lot of these new shows (Discovery isn't the only show that pushes the issues mentioned in your video) is that the writers seem to think that "he's gay" or "she's a trans person" or what have you is their entire character. Their gender, sexual orientation, race, or whatever, COMPLETELY defines who they are as a character in the show. When I watched TOS, I didn't sit there thinking "Is Spock gay?" or "Was Scotty born a woman?" because it was IRRELEVANT. Their characters and their actions during the shows were important. I couldn't give a toss who or what they slept with on their off hours. TL,DR: Cool vid. Subbed. Thanks.

"Duet," from the first season, also sums up the entire series (and I'd argue, all of what Trek *should be*) quite well. "The Wire" from season two is the quintessential Garak episode, but Garak steals every episode he's in. "Past Tense," a two-parter from season 3, is one of my favorite time travel stories from the franchise. "My name is Gabriel Bell" is one of Sisko's most iconic lines. "Homefront/Paradise Lost" from season 4 ask some really good questions about what a war in a post-scarcity society would really be like. "Hard Time" from season 4 is also really good; O'Brien's at least as good as Garak when it comes to episode-stealing. "The Quickening," also from Season 4, does some great work with demonstrating just how evil the Founders truly are; I don't think I've ever hated a fictional villain quite like them. Honestly, the more I think about it, it's hard to narrow it down to just five episodes; season four alone doesn't really have any bad eggs. "For the Uniform" is the best Marquis episode of the show, and I loved that subplot. I could go on; anything to do with Vic Fontaine (especially "It's Only a Paper Moon") and "Take Me Out to the Holosuite" are some of the best holodeck episodes...it's *really* hard to narrow it down more than that. 2:00. Sad to see the politicization of star trek. That kind of thinking is a bid for power, at the exclusion of the quality of the story. I think what distinguished old star trek was the way the writers framed the dilemma. They stood on neutral ground and expressed a human issue. New trek is not so discerning. It is desperate to get the point across and it is so loud that it drowns out the human element. The audience feels separated. After watching ST "Diversity", I felt represented as an 'in your face loud, over the top emotional black woman', where so many parts of me aren't like that interpretation. I relate a lot to white Picard, or Android Data or Betazoid Troi--because of reasons other than skin colour. It is hard to relate to Michael Burnham or Book or Stacey Abrams. There was in fact more diversity in old trek than ST Diversity, because of the neutrality of the writers. I get it that people want power, but surely can't they keep that desire in the arena of politics and let thought provoking writers write stories about what it means to be human? There are great writers in every culture and what makes them great is that they do NOT preach.

I forced myself to watch S4, and then this channel came across my eyes. Your review is spot on; I enjoyed it more than the season.

Fantastic video! My friends get annoyed when I (a gay man) complain about shows and movies that do what Discovery does and shove gay characters down your throat and make being gay their only real consistent attribute. The people I see on screen genuinely disgust and bother me thinking that millions watch, and form opinions based on these one-dimensional characters. Gay people used to hide who they were because people though it was unnatural, an illness, or mental disability. Now we hide because people will compare us to these disgusting, one-dimensional, and annoying characters designed to push an ideology. The Left will feign understanding and give false praise to highly presumed struggles. The Right will show disgust, either imaging us as the extreme and single-dimensional creature as seen on TV or see us as pretenders following an ideological fad to put ourselves on an undeserved higher seat of morality.

Posting here because #2 has already been taken down, apparently. So sorry. I did watch it, but only just remembered I forgot to Like it. I came back to do so, but cannot locate it, on your Videos page or anywhere else. To CBS: Huzzah and well done, gentlemen. Truly, the rest of us have learned to duck when you swing your big… selves… around. To LP: Thank you for this latest effort. I enjoyed it immensely and shall Like it at the first opportunity. Until then, keep up the good work, and I look forward to the third installment.

Very kind! I’ve stuck a second version up but if they’re in that kind of mood there’s no telling how long it’ll survive.

I can't believe I just heard the greatest summarization of my problems with the label of "queer" AND the issues with modern writing in the beginning of a video about Stark Trek. If I wasn't already subscribed I would be signing up for more right now.

Another season ended, and Burnham didn't wake up in the penal colony she should have gone to at the end of the first episode ... which means we probably have another season to dread.

Watching the LP critique videos, has become more entertaining than actually watching the shows they critique. Thanx for a most pleasurable dosis or common sense.

I maintain that star trek was never political. It has always been philosophical and moral, which, to those incapable of philosophy, and lacking morals, will seem to be the same as being political. Just as well as to those same people, being political will always seem as being moral and philosophical. And that is the reason why they see no difference between Discovery (which is political but not moral nor philosophical), and old star trek (which is moral and philosophical, but not political).

Thankfully, given they only (and stupidly) claimed around 7 seconds of footage, it didn’t take long!

Old Trek is a massive part of my life. It opened my eyes to what could be possible and what kinds of old thinking would oppose true and constructive universal cooperation (if not a bit idealistic). Hell, it was the first series to show interracial kissing and all genders wearing mixed and unique uniforms of their choosing. But they did so while also showing all of these people working together, for good causes, pushing the boundaries not only of what it means to be an individual, but of exploration and innovation for the BENEFIT of ALL. You can be whatever and whoever you want, but as soon as those choices begin to divide, it just becomes ugly. The only thing that these newer shows will inspire in people is how cool spaceships look. I take solace in the fact that no matter how hard they try, they cannot change the past.

It saddens me on some level.. to see what they’ve done with the new Star Trek. even trek wasnt spared I guess #RipTrek indeed. and I’m someone that has seen the older Star Trek shows and every season of them.. repeatedly.. i found myself coming back to them so frequently heck even enterprise. but with these new ones.. I stopped at the picard season 1 and discovery season 1 and haven’t done that.

Hilariously, I love Star Trek (in general) so much that I will completely enjoy listening to someone critique Discovery for at least an hour. And like, I loved watching Discovery. Can I defend anything about it? Not in the least. Anyway, do your worst, tell me all of the things wrong with it. Next time I watch through Discovery I'll be able to pick up crappy things that passed me by on first watch. Let's go!

Okay, I added the rest of this after watching more of the video. My prob with DISC is that I feel like I am it's target audience, but it misses me. I'm a gay black dude who doesn't get bothered by political messaging being shoved down my throat. Pander to me, Trek Daddy. It's fine, I can deal with with it. BUT, DISC forgets to Star Trek well. Sure, give me that political bs, but give it to me in a super interesting, well-written, SCI-FI world with exciting stakes and stuff. Make me question the way I think of stuff or something. Ask me questions with what seem like easy answers then show me how I'm too comfortable on my laurels, all wrapped up in space stories.

Late to the party, however the best example that I can think that exemplifies "Old Trek" is by "Star Trek: Continues": the episode: "What Ships Are For". Brilliant writing, acting, and production.

Now that the Toxic Brood and the Drinker have made me aware of you, it's time to make my way through some less recent videos of yours. Never too much content elaborating how new Trek is utter shite. And that voice. Umm, so smooth.
