Well in both songs there is no love. I guess in Long Time Friends he technically is with someone but it's a very toxic relationship, so there's no love there anyway. This guy is free, but it's not like he doesn't want love.

I mean the i think he does considering the song is about him _finally_ breaking away from a group of “friends” who pretend to care and support him but are actually toxic and abusive, so he’s finally happy, finally free from a place where he’s poisoned by the ones that smile with him, from the place where he doesn’t belong, and now he feels freaking awesome.

@@Ramparafo I think he’s just sick and tired of how terrible his “friends” have treated him. To me, I got a feeling of relief, almost, at least when he’s talking about being alone and free, with feelings of anger, pain, and resentment in the parts where he’s talking about the effect the people had on him. But I’m sure there are multiple ways to interpret this, so yours could be just as likely, but who knows.

Out of all The Living Tombstone songs I listen to regularly, I probably identify with this one the most. I honestly fear loneliness more than anything else, I'm always second-guessing myself when it comes to following my passions because I think it might make people stop interacting with me and I'll be alone. My favorite line in the song is "To make me feel alone when they are with me" because it makes me realize that, at the same time, I feel alone anyway when being with people I fear retribution from. So if someone just sees the false version of myself, are they really even with me? I guess I don't really know for sure, maybe I'll never know. I'm also kind of glad that this comment will get lost in the sea of others, I know that sounds like a backhanded complaint, but it actually helps me get it off my chest if I'm more or less shouting into a void that few people will see.

Yeah, I get that in a way. Despite the fact that I, myself have never been in an ... Overtly toxic relationship, I still relate to this song quite a bit. It's probably due to my own fear of solitude, mostly due to being deprived of attention my whole life. And despite all of that I still tend to either purposefully or inadvertently push others away and have only ever really consistently been around people who don't treat me the best, to say the least

I don't think I've ever so fiercely identified with a song before. I've undergone... a lot of emotional abuse and manipulation by people who claimed they were my friends when really I was just a means to an end, a way to get some short lived satisfaction by pressuring me into doing things and draining me dry of any motivation I had to do much of anything. Eventually I cut them out of my life one by one, and naturally they all whined and complained I was being unfair to them, but I didn't give them the benefit of the doubt, because I knew giving them a chance to explain themselves and to 'apologize' would just pull me back into a cycle of abuse I needed to break. Nowadays, I'm living a decent life. My KZfaq channel has been slowly growing, I have a boyfriend who loves me and who I love back, and I have a pretty cool project in the works that's been coming along amazingly. So to have all that, that entire journey, expressed through a song is... meaningful to me. Thanks Tombstone. I know this wasn't made specifically for me, and you'll probably never see this comment, but thanks anyway. Keep doing what you do, because what you bring to this world cannot be replaced. I can't help but think that the lyric : "Cause I know it doesn't matter" (1:04) is a tribute to the song Epoch (2:54). The lyrics are nearly the same and the way the words are said in both songs are nearly identical.

To me, this song’s always been about this: Not escaping a toxic relationship, but ending a messed up one out of anger. The people you were with weren’t trying to hurt you, but things just can’t seem to work out. At some point, you can’t take it anymore and just completely break it off. You’re frustrated and you don’t wanna deal with it anymore. Who cares about how they feel. You don’t care. They’re bad and you don’t care. There was nothing wrong with you and you don’t care. It doesn’t matter, you’re free. Now you’re alone. Bridges burnt, leaving yourself in emancipated loneliness, your mind lingering on those people you swear you’re happy you left.

I wonder if the lines "Done living for someone else's time /On someone else's time" is correct. The second mention could be "On someone else's dime", but it's hard to tell. It is a common idiom though. I suppose until we get the official lyrics we'll stick with this version :)

I know this’ll probably sound stupid but this song helped me while I was in therapy. I don’t think I’ve ever so identified with a song before. For 9 years I had been in a toxic friendship with someone I actually grew feelings for. She’d act so emotionally abusive all the time and made me feel embarrassed for having ADHD. But when you’re the weird kid with no friends, someone needs to fill the void. I clinched so tightly to her even though everyone around told me how toxic our friendship clearly was and this wasn’t getting anywhere. She somehow affected me so emotionally I turned to substance abuse. Last year, this song had given me so much courage, I ended things off with her Finally after awkwardly avoiding each other we both had apologized and realized our two personalities were getting way too drastically different. Zero_One is basically a metaphor about losing your identity in your desire to be someone else out of feeling like you're not enough. What I Want - A lack of motivation and strong depression preventing the main character from fulfilling their responsibilities. He wants to mean something; he wants to become famous because he think that it will give him a sense of purpose and belonging, and a platform for his work to have influence over people. Drunk - He falls into alcoholism to cope with his depression. He pushes away any friends he may have and further destroys his mental health and begins to lose grip on reality. Can't Wait - Deep depression has led him to suicidal thoughts and tendencies. This is combined with the already existing issues of lack of motivation and alcoholism. Lazy - He has lost all motivation to do anything whatsoever, and this furthers his feelings of worthlessness and not belonging anywhere. Sunburn - His grip on reality has really started to loosen by this point. He begins fantasizing and dreaming of things that will never happen, and he feels disconnected from what's real. Long Time Friends - The main character realises that his one friend (and potentially all his other friends he's had) is just someone who's been manipulating him for their whole relationship, and he finally cuts them off. At least, that's what this song is about from the perspective of the singer. What may potentially be happening is that the main character who has been losing his sanity and sense of what's real has become paranoid of his one friend who is actually trying to help him. But the singer is completely disillusioned and believes that he's actually just been manipulated. This may be the reason that the singer in the Long Time Friends music video is actually the antagonist of the video, when it was previously believed that he was the protagonist cutting off a bad person.

I figure that this song is more literal, but I like to interpret this as someone who has finally had enough of being comfortable in their depression. That their "long time friend" (being their depression) didn't benefit them in the slightest, comparing to a abusive person. Just a little self-interpretation (could be projecting, lmao)

After a really tough friend breakup about a year ago, i somehow find myself back at this song, after another friend of mine literally just said she didn't like me anymore after years of history. You know how you had a great friend from elementary school, but then once after graduation you depart from them and years later when you then see them once again in High school and confront them with a deep feeling of relief on seeing them but they end up shoving you onto the floor and start calling you names and soon after ignores you... Yep! this is the aftermath orchestrated all in one by my favorite bands!

I don't usually comment on videos but this video has resonated with me through one of the worst times of my life. I became friends with someone who i connected with really fast, i introduced them to most my friends and had 3 friend groups with that friend. The more we got along, the worse things got and it felt like they were competing with me for the attention of my other friends. I loved them, i loved the rest of my friends and i was happy with how things were but with time their dark humour just turned into insults, i'd be called stupid daily, they'd tell me they hated me and stuff that's tame usually but multiple times a day for years, it got to me really bad. We would play games and sometimes i would simply mute midgame and cry, that's when things were already really bad. I was scared of losing my friends, i was scared of confrontation so i put up with the insults, eventually another friend started joining in on it because insulting me became normalized. Whenever i was closer with some friends either playing games said friend didn't own or didn't wish to participate in, it would be me purposefully excluding said friend when i was just trying to play a game with a friend who also wanted to play that game. I would join calls and it would be "Who joined?" in a really excited tone followed by "...oh.. it's lazy". I did lose most of my friends when i stopped talking to them, i lost 2 friend groups and they tried to also separate me from the 3rd one by dming 2 friends saying that they are uncomfortable being friends if i'm friends with them. Those friends stuck with me. I still don't know what i did to make them so upset, i know i'm not blameless in this because i also had dark humour until i realised what they did bothered me. I'm doing a lot better now though, it's been about a year since i stopped talking to them and i can say i'm happy again and it was one of the best descisions i've ever made. I was already relieved to just not talk to them but it took a while to stop feeling like a nuisance to everyone, luckily i had really supportive and loving friends that i had at the time distanced myself from due to insecurities, they also always stuck by me though. I'm finally able to say that friend did something wrong to me whereas before i wasn't even sure if they did anything wrong to me. I listened to this song imagining being free from them, hating everything i felt because i felt awful to think that way of someone i considered a friend. I now listen to this and it makes me happy, to imagine i'm free and managed to stay alive.
