I think my general feelings towards this movie are something along the lines of: "well, it could've been worse."

The unicorn looks like a unicorn character I made once, especially the crooked horn.

If you want something that's just beating a dead horse for 90 minutes, Thelma's got you covered!

Also why watch this movie when a better animated movie about Hollywood’s dark side exists with talking animals in the form of Disney’s Bolt.

Makes me wonder how Dreamworks would have made this movie instead of Netflix.

Is it just me or is the way this film is handling its moral of “lying to get rich and famous is wrong and you should be happy with who you are” making how Shark Tale handled it 20 years ago look more SUBTLE in comparison? At least Shark Tale, for all its problems, didn’t have Lenny or Angie repeatedly telling Oscar lying is wrong and hammering the message for over 90 minutes.

This is one of those movies you see and think "yep. that's a generic kids movie that exists alright.."

I think we owe Despicable Me 4, Garfield and Kungfu Panda 4 an apology.

The best way to describe this film is what if you combine Back at the Barnyard and My Little Pony a new generation into a quick fruit smoothie. Thelma would be anyone's answer and is honestly shows. Definitely one of the weakest Netflix animated films, but at least in my eyes there was some effort put into this adaptation compared to The Magician's Elephant or Leo!! Yet I never want to return of watching it again, one time is enough

What got me into watching the film was both looking at the children’s book and when John Powell kept posting on Instagram about it. (Really enjoyed the soundtrack, too.)

This might be me but remember with Oz: The Great and Powerful overusing the "liar revealed" trope too much? This movie kind feels the same with the "be yourself" way too much. 😅 And yes, it really was a missed opportunity for this to be a musical.

Yeah, to be honest Thelma the Unicorn is my least anticipated movie of May. Watching this trailer I am not big fan where hte trailer spoiled too much how the movie is going to predicted and the liar revealed is the biggest problem with this story. It is a formalic cliche trope in animated films in the animation industry where the main character lies about something until the middle Act the lie wad revealed and everyone looks angry at the protagonist for being dishonest and untrustworthy and the protagonist has to find a way to fixed his or her mistake. You know, come to think about it. I believed Disney's Aladdin is the one that started it all where Aladdin pretends to be a Prince in order to win the heart ❤️ of Princess 👸🏻 Jasmine and he did grant his wish 🤞🏻 from the Genie 🧞‍♂️ but Jafar exposed his lie to Jasmine to revealed that he is not a Prince and he turned out to be the same street guy she met and who rescued her in the streets on that same day. Nowadays, animated films to this day still continued this formalic cliché trope like Ferngully, A Bugs Life, Chicken Run, the Road to El Dorado, The Tigger Movie, Ice Age, 102 Dalmatians Patch's London Adventure, Clifford's Really Big Movie, Shark Tale, Flushed Away, Over the Hedge, Open Season, Ratatouille, How to Train Your Dragon, Megamind, Rango, Madagascar 3, Hotel Transylvania, the LEGO Movie, Kung Fu Panda 3, Pokémon the Power of US, Klaus, Back to the Outback, Luck and Trolls Band Together. This movie reminds me too much of Shark Tale, think about it the protagonist character who is tried being a nobody and wants to be famous and rich and something happens and the protagonist pretends to be somebody and everyone loves him or her and the protagonist becomes famous and rich, he or she toke advantage of their friends kindness and toke them for granted and there is going to be a major breakup and the villain is after the protagonist and being tricked by the lie and the protagonist revealed the lie and they are fake and fraud and learns their lesson about being truth to themselves and never lie again and be happy going back to their normal lives and friends. My biggest problem with the liar revealed trope is that this trope gets so overdone and overused it doesn't want to try anything new and plus when the lie gets exposed the characters become angry at the protagonist for lying and comes off breakup and being melodramatic, cynical and mean spirited. I am not a big fan of the message of don't lie and be truthful which comes off as extremely preachy and shovel down your face. And I am skipping this one for good.

I felt the books were honestly better than the movie. In short they changed the book's moral message and the left out the love story between Thelma and Otis. DreamWorks should have handled this movie and not Netflix. The mivie should and probably would have been a lit better. I'm still also trying to get used to Thelma's voice as she sounds nothing like how i imagined her.

Also what's with horses and ponies starring animated movies always suck like first Spirit Untamed, My Little Pony A New Generation and now this?! Horses are my favorite animals and they deserved some respect. We haven't got a good animated movie starring a horse since the Underrated 2002 animated film Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron and My Little Pony 2017 film (soft spot for that movie too). 🐴🐎🦄

It’s sad to see that Jared Hess went from 2 wack-ball comedies to this bland, message-hammering mess. I would want to think that the executives had a hand in making this movie so bland because I think Jared could have done wonders with a story like this, especially if it took the direction of criticizing the phoniness of Hollywood. In addition, man is 2024 not starting strong in terms of animated films. With the exception of Orion and the Dark, every other animated movie has ranged from mid to bad. Here’s hoping that Inside Out 2 will liven things up a bit.

Otis' look keeps making me think of Marty from Madagascar. Honestly, with the way this film looks, I'll stick to that franchise.

When I saw the trailer for this film and it didn’t appeal to me and I decided to avoid it. And after watching this review, my thoughts are still the same. It just looks so bland and dull that we know how this will go. Hell, on the same day as this was released on Netflix, IF (Imaginary Friends) came out in theaters and I went to go see that film and let me tell you, that movie was way better. Sure, there were some elements did need a bit of tune up, but the characters rather be real or imaginary, a message on reconnecting with your childhood, and a powerful emotional core more than made up for it, in my opinion.

What's up with all of these mediocre animated... "things" that happen to end with "-elma?"

Luckily this is not the worst animated film of 2024 since it is released in the same year as megamind vs the doom sydicate and Thelma could've much worse than that film

With that movie you can tell what they were going for and they at least tried to succeed in it, all I can say though, this is just...sad. The folks that made blockbusters made their worst production yet. And that coming from me, since I don't really like Napoleon Dynamite.

I did like this movie. I wanted to like this movie. Vivo, Back To The Outback and Leo are way better tho. I didn't find Thelma terrible but yeah, it was aight at best. I do like how even tho Thelma has an argument early on with Otis, he and the other donkey still continue to support Thelma instead of not wanting anything to do with her until the climax. And uh, yay, a narwhal! And as a villain of all things..... Jemaine Clement's character was freaking hideous tho and I wanted to punch him in the teeth every time he spoke. Like I get it, you're supposed to hate the character but still, he's just so ugh...... anyway yeah, this movie wasn't terrible, it was mid and strange but it was ok, I guess. The little girl in the wheelchair was adorable tho and she deserves her own movie, FIGHT ME.

The only pro I can really give this is the music. That shit is FIRE.

I obly saw a few clips of this movie and got so bored with how generic it was but it made me think They want to tell the whole "dont lie about who you are and be yourself" except no one cared about thelma before she became a unicorn, so she *did* try being herself and it got her nowhere. She only got popular when she started lying. All this tells me is that you should be happy if no one cares about you and you cant follow your dreams because youre still you. If lying a little bit gets you to follow your dreams then id rather do that than be sad not going anywhere

The animation looks nice on the animals but the humans one the other hand they look hideous to look at. I had the similar points like you Animate, In my head the story was pointless. It had a oppertunity to talk about and warn its audience about the dark truth of hollywood and the music industry but decided to take the easy road. The two songs i hated was Vons song and here comes the cud. I was also annoyed by the sassy black woman talk buy Thelma and the other horse, i cant stand it. At first i was going to give a 5/10 but after giving some time to thinking about it its s 3/10 you can skip this movie.
