Hi all!
I thought it was time to make a 2 part series on making and installing a wardrobe.
We have a lovely Birch ply wardrobe, with 10 doors, 6 drawers, 2 hanging rails, adjustable shelves and a window seat to make, all finished in a clear Osmo oil.
In this video (PART ONE) I try to cover as much as possible, from the design to the cutting list, to the cutting to the machining etc.
In PART TWO which will come next sunday ( Vid#127), its all about the installation.
Again I go through as much as possible on the fit out, from loading the van to fitting the bearers, to assembling the carcasses to the finished product!
I hope you enjoy!

This isn't just a video mate, it is a masterclass and I can't thank you enough for making such quality content! Instant sub! Keep up the great work. You explain things well. I would suggest making a cabinet video series for complete beginners like me where you show how to cut, assemble, and install drawers and hardware in a single series. That will just be gold, I know you have probably already shared all that knowledge but it is spread across multiple videos right now so putting it in one playlist will be worth a lot.

Thanks for your amazing videos. I've been following your channel for a year or two now & this week I got a comission to build two alcove wardrobes from a client I've worked for in the past. This guide (pt 1 & 2) has been invaluable in helping me plan & price the job, especially in working out how long it's going to take to install. I'm pretty good at estimating the workshop side but I've been caught out in the past with the time needed to install (wonky walls etc...). It also highlighted that I'm going to need a second pair of hands on the install & may well have to hire a van for the day, as ferrying the large pieces in the boot of my Mini would be a massive ball ache & waste half a day doing the 15 minute drive back & forth lol Will be using these two video as my blueprint for how many hours to plan for. The advice about the plinth levelling & installing the drawers & doors is invaluable. I'm sure without this, I'd have massively underestimated the install time & ended up working for free on the install half of the job (as I did when I built the same client a banket seating/meter cupboard last year). Now I can work out a realistic quote that takes account for all the hidden work when it comes to trim, fit & finish. Thanks a million!

Re. the aggro with CAD, I like it. I use AutoCAD LT, so am limited to 2D, but I can change dimension sizes and position them wherever I like. The thing I like most about it is that the dimensioning makes for easy sense checking, so you can be sure that everything adds up to the right length etc. I've caught a few howlers like that. Also, it gives you board sizes that you can drop onto a 1220 x 2440 rectangle to help make the most efficient cutting list. Mind you, I always start of with a paper and pencil until I have a better idea of how it's all going to fit together. Then I CAD it and have to print it out to pencil in all the errors for me to correct. I usually have to repeat that process a few times...

Great video. What amazing content.Thank you for going the extra mile. This will be a real help for me,going forward. After your glowing recommendation on the parallel guides, I decided to purchase here in Australia. They arrived about 55hours from ordering, ( they have Stock in Australia for key items) and cost AU$ 134.44 all inclusive (shipping and insurance) - that’s £76.22!!!! They claim to be the “upgraded version - hook upgrade”…… whatever that means. Cheers Howard

Great content and so well timed because I'm planning on building my own wardrobe in the near future. I would love to use birch ply but shame about the price at this moment in time. Will probably have to go for MDF. Thank you for your effort in making these videos - please keep them up!

Ever think of using Eucalyptus ply instead of birch. It’s nearly half the price and reading all the reviews on it apparently it’s as good and a far better sustainable wood.

Great video! As the board faces are already finished I can see why you don’t apply glue along the length of each joint, but do you think there’s any difference in joint strength by just gluing at the biscuits? Not having any squeeze out seems like a dream!
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop 8 ай бұрын
Hi, we never really apply glue in the joints when assembling carcasses, only really when we are making a solid one of piece of furniture like a stool for example or a window seat where it needs to take weight and movement.👍

Hi chaps, Great video. It was nice to see the complete process. Ill be attempting some mdf wardrobes painted white after my extension is built and your videos have been very informative. I've noticed you use 6mm for draw bases and the same for shaker style, I'm assuming this has always been thick enough? Keep up the great work. Andy.

Thank you and good luck. Yes 6mm is plenty for both in my opinion but I wouldn't go any lower 👍

Hi Ryan, I've just found you! Great vid which has a wealth of information and is well presented. I'm interested in the ply and where you got this batch. Are you using BB/BB grade ply and do you experience voids when you cut? Cheers and thank you for this
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop 3 ай бұрын
Hello apologies this message was held back by KZfaq! Thank you! Much appreciated, it means alot! I guess generally I use bb/bb or maybe sometime b/bb but bb/bb is more common. I got my batch from James latham I believe but that has run out now. Other place are mp morans. It's a builder merchant but sell decent sheets. Yiu could always go there and pick and choose your boards. I don't get voids that I remember of, but if they are on edge then it doesn't really matter to me 😊 Cheers ryan

Dear LC. Is there a list of accessible tools that one could procure to make this mate? Also is this realistic if you were to make it in a flat?
@anthonyharper5954
@anthonyharper5954 Жыл бұрын
You should give Peter Millard a watch.. he has a few videos on entry level tools that can build projects like this.. also not sure on the accessibility of your flat but I imagine many would struggle to get a full sheet of ply in but you can cut everything either outside or in another available location and then bring it all in for sanding etc.
