That’s the new story. The original one was actually what Macro said. If Kazuya survived being thrown off a cliff, he was worthy to take heihachi’s place as the head of the mishima zaibatsu

Heihachi would later decide to start world domination. He starts by killing his father, and become the head of the mishima zaibatsu. One night, Kazumi reveals that she is part of the hachijo-clan, a clan with a duty to kill people considered a threat to the world. She transforms into a devil, fights heihachi, who ends up winning. In fear that his son has inherited the devil gene, he throws him off a cliff. If he dies, he was a normal human; he survives, he got the devil gene.
