The European Super League's proposed breakaway from established football associations has sparked a heated battle for control between the league's founding clubs and FIFA and UEFA. This legal campaign aims to challenge the control that these organizations have over football and to create a more fair and equitable system. The battle for control has been intense, with both sides making arguments for their position. This video delves into the root causes of the dispute and explores the potential solutions that could emerge from this historic battle. Join us as we explore this fascinating topic and examine the impact it could have on the future of football. I talk about this European Super League court case and how it threatens national football leagues, like Allsvenskan, in my home country.

On a Saturday in April 2021, 12 men who represent the world's biggest football clubs, signed a contract. A contract to form a European Super League.
When this new league was announced, all hell broke loose. Fans and politicians protested and FIFA and UEFA threatened to ban players who participate in the new league. The resistance to the project was so fierce that a majority of the 12 teams soon distanced themselves from the project.
However, three teams decided to double down on the European Super League project by launching a legal campaign that is designed to challenge FIFA's and UEFA's century-old control of football. A legal campaign that could revolutionise the world of football and end tournaments like the Champions League.
In this video:
00:00 Introduction.
02:56 How FIFA and UEFA control football.
05:35 The rise of the MEGA CLUBS.
08:09 The legal campaign to take control over football.
12:20 Is the European Super League a cartel?
13:32 Why the Super League is a super bad idea.

I liked the video, great work! I cannot understand why you are advocating for the most corrupt organisations in the world. The revised super league may help in eliminating this monopoly by allowing more teams to participate.

It's funny when you say that "they need to balance interest of stakeholders between rich league and poor league, big team and small team".. The question is where is the balance ? How can small team compete with big team ? Remind me again what and where is the balance ? Btw, great video..

In today's football the balance can only be found in number of players that can be played on the pitch. But we all know that football today is a "pay to win game" and it's the reality. We can only hope the miracle season like Licester or Lile happen more often.

i have a question.. if fifa is democratic, so was Blatter election, so why we are complaining about the scandals and the problem highlited by World Cup in Russia and Qatar?
@TheMarketExit
@TheMarketExit Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you're asking. You can be for democracy and at the same time believe that the elected leaders are scumbags. The beautiful thing with democracy (when it works) is that the electorate can vote against leaders who turn out to be scumbags. For example, after Bush's disastrous decision to invade Irak, American voters voted for a democratic president two elections in a row. FIFA's democracy is deeply flawed - and is plagued by devastating corruption. But even a flawed and corrupt democratic FIFA is better than abandoning the democratic system altogether. Let's keep pressuring FIFA to improve. For instance, you can get involved in the national football association of you home country. You can make sure that journalists in your country investigate how fair and democratic the election of your national representatives are.

I do not support any league that guarantees a permanent spot for any team. There should be a pyramid system with promotion/relegation applicable across the board for all, and it should all be governed by impartial persons/entities. Those greedy owners of the 12 larger clubs forgot that their clubs benefited from this system at one time and now want to stop anyone from growing through the system to challenge them. It is their own fault that they made bad financial decisions by overpaying players to the point that if they win no titles or cups then they go in debt. Allowing them to form a super league is the same as taxing the struggling people to support the lavish elite lifestyle of the owners.

That's a great analogy. Unfortunately, our current economic system is to a large extent based on exploitation of the people who have little, in order to benefit those who already have a lot

Good point, I could've called it that. On the other hand some could argue that UEFA indirectly is controlled by FIFA, hence they belong to the same sphere of control, but I believe you have a point.

Those who support this Super League are very shortsighted! They became the powers that they are because of, not despite, the current system. They forget that football is a global game and their revenues and talent depend on markets beyond their own. FIFA and UEFA (to a lesser extent) have a revenue sharing and governance model that is good for the global game. If those feeder markets can no longer supply eyes and talent because of the concentration of wealth by a small group, then football will be the loser. The game will then become one for the world’s rich and powerful only - and we’ve seen what unequal distribution of wealth has done to entire economies around the world.

I, for one, am a fervent partisan of this super league as long as we exclude all those teams from national and European competitions. They are part of this league and that's all. I don't support any (hate most) of those teams that would adhere to it and I would love to see all these billionaire teams fighting for just one trophy every year lol! This league would suck up so much money that it would certainly impoverish all the other leagues but not to the point of killing national championships and European Cups. Poorer but way more virtuous and competitives.

@Davide.B
@Davide.B Жыл бұрын
I am more than in favor of the super league because the current system favors only some teams, as regards the distribution of money to the poorest leagues they will certainly give a percentage that is higher than that given by UEFA and FIFA, I also want to add that if the Super League starts, the only body to lose out would be UEFA, now
@Davide.B
@Davide.B Жыл бұрын
Now I want to explain why the super league doesn't want to abandon the smaller teams, in the more drastic case where the super league teams I'm not being helped financially there would be a revolt that would boycott the same super league as happened in the past so I think the super league is the only way to improve football
@Davide.B

Now add in addition to the Super League there will be a Super League B AND a Super League C for the teams that are not high enough level to participate in the ESL all this will work via a ranking

I'm not a fan of FIFA or UEFA, but thanks to how poorly the initial Super League was planned and launched, FIFA and UEFA will be indefinitely viewed as the lesser evil by the vast majority of the football community. The Super League will have to wait until FIFA and UEFA have made their own egregious mistakes that threaten the sport to open the door to any Super League alternative that is proposed by the rich teams. Perception is everything.

I'm for the Super League vision. The UCL is farce and has been for a long time. It's not really the elite teams of Europe. It's ONE OF - but NOT the only reason they've dominated it (NOTE -settle down Madrid fans..you're such an easily triggered and sensitive fan base...honestly you're like eggs...). I agree with Perez, there is a much disinformation and misunderstanding about it. That said, I'm no fan of Perez. He is, by FAR, one of if not the biggest gaslighting and biggest liar of football club presidents out there. He gaslights his own fans and the world. His gives speeches about the need for FFP (taking a dig a mega clubs like City b/c Sheikh Mansour makes him soil his pants) all while sitting on Forbes list at #11 for world's most valuable sports teams and sit on Deloitte's list at #1 in 2022/23 for worlds most highest revenue football club at 831.4 million euros (Man City at #2 with 825.9). Madrid is in bed with massive corporate sponsors such as Emirates, Adidas, HP, Dubai, Coca-Cola, Sony, Abbott and that's just the start. So to pretend to be concerned about FFP and call for enforcement of it for the sake of "fairness" and competition is laughable. Don't believe, check out his speech for yourself on Madrid's website. UEFA and FIFA control do control football no doubt but again, do we want to put in the hands of Perez? What's his track record of giving to fans? Has he made ticket prices at Madrid free? Is he going to make the SL free? He claims its going to televised for free - would believe that $hit? This is a club selling tops on their website today for $195 and now he's just going start giving "football back to the fans"...for free? Sure. The SL yes, Madrid leading it, no.
