This tune hit the fall after I graduated high school in ‘82, I’d lost my sweetheart, was working graveyard at a truck-stop fuel desk/restaurant. No idea which way was up or which way to go. I liked Haggard a lot already. This story-song landed me for life.

Vince Gill stated that Merle was the greatest country music talent of all time. I have to agree with Vince.

People always overlooked the fact that Merle Haggard was a world class guitar picker! His solos were second to no one

My brother and I used to rib my Dad for listening to Merle Haggard. We’d mock the lyrics, in a respectful but ball busting way. 20-25 years later after life hit a bit, all those lyrics we’d recite in jest suddenly make sense and Merle is one of my favorite artist.

When I lost my first love, i use to frequent this little hole in the wall bar in Portland , Maine called Pour Mans Paradise. This was number 117 on the juke. Played the needle thru it with the whiskley pouring down. A part of my life, a part of my history..and Merle was there for me.

I was in a bar in the outskirts of dayton ohio and i was drinking a beer or two when i heard voice coming from the jukebox. I didnt recognizethe voice so i went to the jukebox and seen it was merle haggard and the song was im a lonesome fugitive. That was a late saturday nite, early sunday morning. Later that day i went and bought the record. I played it over and over and my mom ask me who it was and i told her somebody named merle haggard.

Merle doing what he does best. Fills your heart with emotions. He may be gone but never forgotten. The song I like best is the one he's doing at the time I'm hearing it.

When my oldest brother( 15 years my senior),,was running the streets, Mama Tried was playing on jukeboxes. When I was running the streets, it was still playing on the jukebox at my favorite watering hole. Merle was timeless.
