I'm a retired USAF officer who flew as an AWACS radar officer. Though I was not a pilot / navigator on the AWACS I have always had a strong interest in aviation. My father was also a career USAF logistician, so I spent much of my life near aviation. My interest continued after leaving the AF, and I even took a couple familiarisation flights with the local flight school where I live in Germany. The interest was there, but, by then I had a family and a responsible position in mobile telecom R&D, each of which had demands on my time and budget. Long story short .... I never got a PPL. Still, I love everything related to aviation, and your channel provides me a ton of enjoyment. The radio discipline is something I fully understand from my AF days. --- Working as a ferry pilot seems to me to be one of the most rewarding (personally, if not financially) jobs possible. If only .......... -- Wishing you clear skies and tailwinds always.

Micke, another excellent video. Suggestion: when you have your life vest on, also secure (e.g. via your carabiner) the SPOT tracker to your life vest (one less thing to remember in an emergency). Looking forward to all your future adventures. Thanks. Wayne (DA40, USA)

I have been running Spot for years, then moved over to an Iridium based tracker. All trackers need clear view of Sky. Attached to the upper body, they probably even in Mike’s case won’t be able to communicate to their satellites (and I am not talking GPS here which is less critical), due to obscuration by the aircraft structure. The SPOT isn’t actually “communicating”, as it isn’t receiving anything from the satellite. It is blind transmitting. So you will not know while in flight whether it’s position reports are being received by the satellite. (Typically, Iridium based trackers will warn when they didn’t receive a read receipt from the satellite.)

Yeah, we used to have Q400s and 737s as well, but now we’re all A220 due to COVID. I was on the Q400 before but luckily changed type right before all this 😅 How often do you get to do ferries like this, and what do you do when there are no ferries?

Great editing. Did you have any major issues with customs or with permission to overfly any of the countries? Did your company take care of the paperwork and flight planning or did you use a handler? Thanks. Can’t wait for part 3

Doug Christenson Hi Doug, everything worked out very good, we had no problems. We do flight planning by our own and use handling for permits and customs. Day 3 is is the making, out soon!
