Outstanding teaching. Please reply mam He is better than I. Hindi sentence I is used instead of me. Why mam ? Because me is an object
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher 4 жыл бұрын
I is used because it completes the second verb in the clause. He is better than I am. Here 'am' is implied. Me is a pronoun object. If you use me it becomes a simple sentence with one verb. Both are correct.

Verbs: was and is = 2 clauses. Split into 2 sentences. Something is unknown. (the reason) why I was sad. What is unknown? Answer: why i was sad. I could have substituted with (The way to the park) is unknown. How is it adjectival? Is it describing any noun?

Really we should appreciate ur efforts mam🙏ur lecture is clear mam...but in the 5th example (The reason why I was sad is unknown) how it become noun Clause I didn't understand mam. Will u plz explain mam😊
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher 2 жыл бұрын
You are right. I asked What is unknown? and got a noun clause 'The reason why I was sad'. But I would rather I had asked Which reason? why I was sad = adjective clause. I agree the adjective clause is better.

Thanks a lot ma'am! Fantastic video indeed! 🙏 It really helped me a lot. You really teach very well in a simplied manner which is very easy to understand. Thanks a lot! I have one doubt... The reason why I was sad is unknown...here reason is noun and we ask a question to noun ( which reason ) so it must be an adjective clause as we did in 3rd sentence...please let me know ma'am why it is told by you that it is a noun clause... Please clear my doubt🙏
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Your doubt is a good one. Actually you can do it both ways depending on which question you ask. If you ask the verb what? you get a noun clause where the whole phrase is taken as 'something' . If you ask the noun which? you get an adjectival clause. So you are right as well. In a combined sentence as we cannot see the original it is hard to tell what the original conjunction was. But I think your analysis is better than mine.

This video is very helpful! I do have a question regarding the sentence, "The reason why I was sad is unknown." "why I was sad" answers to the question "which" ---> shouldn't it make it an adjectival clause instead of a noun clause? Thank you for your help.
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher

Very good! It is more of an adjective clause than a noun clause. It does answer the question what? but I think your explantion is better.

All your classes are really effective ma'am . Thanks for uploading such classes. It would be of great help if you help me out with this doubt. He gave me everything that I asked for. Is everything that I asked for a noun clause since it answers the question what. Please help me out ma'am . But In the answer key it is given adjective clause
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bindu. In your sentence, you are right if you ask the question what? to the verb 'gave' But if you ask which? "everything" ? then the answer would be the adjective clause 'that I asked for' - telling us more about the noun 'everything'. So both are correct. Understand the functions.

Look at the simple compound complex video and Types of phrases. Find in playlist. It will be clear. A phrase does not have a verb a subordinate clause does.

Thankyou so much Ma'am. I have a doubt in the following sentence. The Plan has the virtue (of committing us to nothing.) What is the right question to ask, The plan has what virtue or The plan has which virtue
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher
@TheMindspringsEnglishTeacher 3 жыл бұрын
You don't frame questions. You merely ask the verb who or what? or the noun the question which? In this case: Has what? Ans - the virtue. which virtue? Ans - of committing us ........ If you frame big questions you will go wrong.
